traveling tips

in less than 2 weeks we are going to california for 10 days to visit my family. i am so excited for them to meet hunter! i am really looking forward to taking a picture with hunter and kelly at the house i grew up in...sweet memories!

anywho...kelly often refers to me as a schedule nazi in reference to hunter's naps and feedings. if you want a happy baby a schedule is a must! i am flexible though, so i wouldn't call myself a nazi about it. i just have to have somewhat of an order to my day and love to plan everything out. so, i guess the schedule might just be more beneficial for mommy than it is for hunter.

anyways, i am wondering how i will get him on california time. i think he will probably be waking up between 4-5 am at first which freaks me out. i am determined not to get stressed out about it because i want to enjoy my vacay! if you travel a lot (i know my sister-in-law, cindy, is a pro at this with all the traveling they do; i definitely need to get her advice!) and have any tips to ease hunter into the time change let me know.

meanwhile, take a look at what awaits us:

aww...bodega bay...one of my favorite places in the world. i had my last birthday with my dad there when i was 9 (he died a few weeks later) and it will always be a special place to me. can't wait to be there in a few weeks!!!

Although, i've only done the west to east coast once my suggestion would be to start manipulating his naps the day of.. on the plane as far as trying to stretch him according to the time change. I would talk to your pedi about possibly giving him some tylenol or benedryl (hopefully that doesn't do the opposite and key him up). Titus did have some adjusting, but that was mostly once we got home.

The other thing that helped me on the plane was to have diapers, wipes, and an extra outfit nearby so I didn't have to search the bag for it while in the air. One thing that was a bummer was that flying damaged my stroller. I checked it curbside each flight and I can see it looks more worn now. I would suggest either taking an umbrella stroller or using an stroller bag to protect yours!

Happy traveling! Oh yea.. I added you as well to my blog list! Your blog is cute and fun to read! Keep it up! :)

Carissa, Yes Bodega Bay is one of my favorite places too. When it's hot in our city we love to go there to cool down.

The best thing you can do is have NO expectations for how/what Hunter will do outside of his normal routine. If you set your heart up for it to go one particular way - it mostly surely will not turn out that way and you'll be disappointed. Go with the flow and Hunter will pick up on your laid back/peaceful attitude. The second you try to make things work a certain way - he will sense the stress/frustration and it all goes downhill from there. This takes constant effort for me - but you'll be great at it.

Give me a call soon (before you leave) and I'll share some other things.

And lastly - that last part about Bogeda Bay and your dad on your 9 yr. birthday makes me want to cry... that had to be so hard!
