baby bonkie.

this week for show us your life on kelly's korner, it is going to be all about baby gear. i have to show everyone my absolute favorite thing for hunter when he was a newborn.

think swaddling...minus the aggravating and difficult blanket that you have to try to wrap around your child as tightly as possible to the likes of a burrito. and if you're like me, you never cook mexican. what to do???

baby bonkie to the rescue!!! this a swaddling blanket worthy of the twenty-first century. here it is in action:

hunter's baby bonkie was a gift (they are a bit pricey!) and his was blue with white polka dots. they are the softest things you will ever feel. they are fabulous. all you do is put your baby in, fold up the sides and velcro it shut. the babe is kept warm and snugly inside. it also keeps the baby from waking up if startled. we used it only at night so hunter would start to understand the difference between nighttime sleep and naps. it really worked. he slept so well in the bonkie. you must get one.

as far as something that we have and didn't really use...i got a hotsling as a gift. i think it would've worked better for a smaller baby. hunter got so big so quickly (he is 22 lbs now) and it really hurt my back. but, i will save it for the next baby and hope that it works. it is so cute...i was hoping hunter could be my accessory...hello babywearing! but, it really didn't work as easily as it is shown to work. although they aren't cute (sniff, sniff) i would recommend a baby bjorn over a sling.

this was when hunter was 4 months (i can't believe that was 4 months ago!!!) it really is so cute! but boy, oh boy, it killed my back. Pin It

I've never heard of a Baby Bonkie! What a cool idea. Lauren, my 11 month old, hated being swaddles. Perhaps our next child will get the ultra cool bonkie!

I saw your comment on Kelly's Korner about the roundabout. Then I hopped over here to leave you a message and realized you are Kelly's wife! I went to highschool with Kelly and he played at a retreat we did with Campus Outreach in Savannah. (my husband was the speaker) Random find!

So... about the roundabout... I encourage you to have it checked at a carseat checkpoint if you can find one. We have a van with bucket captain seats and every rear facing seat I have used I have to put a foam pool noodle underneath it to elevate it a little more. the carseat technician actually taughy me this trick. As long as you can still get the seat latched or belted in tightly, using a foam piece to elevate it is safe.

Helen is almost 7m and I just put her in a roundabout. first I had the same problem, then I elevated with the noodle. Just put your weight into it with a knee into the seat and tighten so the seat does not move more than an inch from side to side.

hope this isn't too bossy! but I am SO carseat paranoid that I really love helping others figure out how to use carseats and make them work for them. We were recently in a bad accident and my carseat vigilence has only gotten stronger!

And I would have left this comment if you were a stranger... funny that I actually have met you IRL!

Hope you can figure out the roundabout!
