a day of songs

today was a day of songs. kelly and i sang, chris tomlin's take my life at sarah and billy's wedding. it was a beautiful wedding for an absolutely beautiful couple! i listened to the song over and over again today (i always become a bit obsessive about listening to the songs i am going to sing) and the words are extremely powerful. i thought about how often i have sung that song before and as i would sing the words "take my life" i would think, okay Lord take my life...but, don't take this or that or whatever at the time i may have been putting in the place of my Lord. today, i was convinced that when i would sing that song (even if it was at a wedding as a performance) i was going to fully mean it...no buts about it. i think giving up my own desires and will is a daily thing. unfortunately i so often put my desires in prominence over God's will for my life. i guess that is all part of our sinful human condition. i have to continually pray that His desires for me would be the desires of my heart.

listen to take my life.

i also spent the day listening to andrew peterson's holy is the Lord. kelly is learning it to play this week so i heard it over and over again today. i didn't listen to it once without crying. i realized that after listening to take my life, holy is the Lord is the perfect response. holy is the Lord is about abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son isaac (Genesis 22). that story is the perfect example of pure obedience to the Lord. i am pretty certain that the only way to have that kind of obedience is by giving the Lord all of yourself - your will, desires; absolutely everything. i could never imagine what abraham must have gone through; all he could do was trust in the sovereignty of God and know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him. i want to have obedience like abraham.

listen to holy is the Lord. grab the tissues.

isn't that such a powerful song?

Yes, I love both of those songs! You and Kelly did great today. At first I didn't even realize that was you singing with Kelly! Mike was sitting beside me and we couldn't see either one of you because of all the people... when we got in the car he was like "who was that singing with Kelly? She did a great job." I was like... "That was Carissa", and then we just talked about what a beautiful job you guys did! :)

I was looking for you later, but I couldn't find you... you guys had already left!

Let's hang out again soon! :)
