to celebrate the start of december i thought i'd share a good ol' crockpot recipe with you.
a few days ago, i finally grew a brain and planned out some crockpot meals. hello... all you do is throw a bunch of ingredients in there, turn it on, leave it cook all day, and badabing badabang... you have a delicious dinner waiting for you inside. i think they are a mother's best friend.
nothing tells you its cold outside like enjoying a nice warm bowl of chili inside. i haven't made chili in a really long time. probably four years. why? well, four years ago when i made it i decided to try a recipe that called for chocolate. it sounded weird, but since chocolate is just absolutely delicious, i figured it would somehow be good. it was not good. it tasted like beans, meat and chocolate. since then i guess i have just veered away from trying to make it again.
a few days ago i concocted my own chili recipe. i had high hopes for it and luckily it turned out mighty good. so, i hope you enjoy it.
ingredients:enjoy! i calculated up the ingredients and it cost around $13 (and, nothing was on sale! i just bought store brand everything!). we got 8 servings out of it which means each serving cost $1.62. what a good deal! oh yes, and it is great with cornbread, of course. kelly loves his chili with rice... i think that is so weird (maybe it's a southern thing?) and i'd never heard of anyone eating it that way until i moved here. either way, it is good! Pin It
1 lb hamburger meat
1 can red kidney beans (drained)
1 can red beans (drained)
1 can black beans (drained)
1 large can diced tomatoes
1 can tomato paste
chili mix packet (i bought the store brand)
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 green bell pepper
1/2 cup water
directions:
in a skillet, cook the hamburger meat. once cooked, add the chili mix packet with 1/2 cup water and tomato paste. stir together and let simmer on low for 5 min. then pour it in your crockpot. add all the beans, diced tomatoes, brown sugar, and chopped bell pepper. stir and let cook on high for 4-5 hours.

That sounds like a really good chili!! BTW I LOVE the way your blog is turning out!!! :D
I'll have to try it some day. I got a new crock pot Friday after Thanksgiving. Must find some things to cook in it. I do love making soups in the crockpot.
do you watch friends?? your recipe reminded me of that episode where rachel was making a parfait and a page was ripped out of the cookbook, so she ended up making a parfait that called for meat, strawberries, whip cream, corn and a bunch more stuff. It was so funny! Then ross said it tasted like feet. LMAO! and joey thought it tasted good. hahahahaha. (if you dont get it just ask julie. she will know what im talking about)
ashley - i haven't seen that episode, but it sounds so darn funny!!! i wasn't allowed to watch friends (i was really young when it was on) so i just discovered it after kelly and i got married. he introduced me to it and i love it!
