how to sell.

i need to purge our house and garage. we've got things to sell. we have money to make. i need your advice. how do you sell? where's the best place to sell stuff?

i realize it probably depends on what it is... we have a single jogging stroller, a single britax stroller, a chicco infant carrier, a guitar pedal, vera bradley collections (they are my mom's - she said she'd give me half of what they sold for if i did the work to get them sold - sweet!), and a few name brand purses. where should i sell it all at? ebay, craigslist, consignment, garage sale?!?!

i have sold a few things on ebay before and have had decent luck with it. i've never done craigslist - although kelly sold our vehicle using it and we made $1 more than we paid for it - i guess it's a good route to take! however, the thought of connecting face to face with total strangers sounds completely scary to me. consigning our items (i.e.- the strollers) would be a quick way to get rid of them but not the most profitable. and a garage sale... well they aren't allowed in our neighborhood.

so, if i haven't already answered my own question, help me out.

Go for ebay. It's safe and convenient.

Hey Carissa -
I am expecting in August and DT and I have been researching strollers and such. We are suckers for good deals, so we are not opposed to buying anything used. If you're interested in selling this way, just shoot me an email with a little more info about the strollers or any other baby stuff you may be interested in selling! Thanks - Kellie House

For the baby stuff you can call Once Upon A Child and see it they'll accept the strollers. You might also check them to see if you can find a crib there etc. (???)

Craiglist has always worked the best for me:)

I like doing craigslist, but I have done ebay before. Craigslist doesn't require an fees like ebay does. I just always have people come to buy things when Mike was home with me, or meet them at a public place, like a busy parking lot or something like that, and only accept cash. I just sold a twin bed & desk on craigslist last week, and I got my asking price for them, so I was pretty happy. :)

Craigslist cost you nothing to sell on. Ebay, thing might need to be shipped, plus they have a fee. Garage sales wont bring in much money (usually). So maybe a baby consigment might be the best. You'll need to check them out. Put an add in a free shopper if you have that available.

I like craigslist the best since there are no fees and you don't have to ship anything. And depending on the item I like to meet the people in public places so they dont have to come to my home. But when they do come to the house I always make sure Rickey is home. Good luck! And baby things will do great on craigslist!

hi carissa...i just found your blog from joy's hope.... :)

i have used all of these ways to sell items and make $.

if you just want to purge and get it out the quickest method is definitely consignment or straight donation.
it's done and over and gone in under an hour.

if you want quick cash go craigslist. price it right, and meet in a grocery store parking lot in the afternoon. easy. fast.

i've sold LOTS of clothes on ebay and have done well but it is hit or miss. when i hear the word "purge" i hear "get it out now". ebay is a process.

i also have a garage sale every year. but you must NOT bring anything back in the house that doesn't sell. again...it takes time.

my vote: 1. craigslist 2. consign :)

I vote craigslist as well. I've sold several items and have had great luck with it. I always put that I only accept cash because it's common to receive spam emails and requests to use another payment option. Meet in a public place for sure!!!

If you strike out with that you can always try Once Upon A Child (for the baby items) but they give you cents on the dollar so definitely use it as a last resort.

Good luck!!!
