as in plain jane. i'm plain. i love white. i love brown (it's my new black... i know it was probably everyone's new black several years back, but i'm not done with it yet.) i love neutrals... they just go with everything. i tell myself i'm practical so i don't feel boring.
i'm girly but not fru fru. i don't get into frills, polka dots, monogramming, bows, finger nail painting (you spend all that time painting only for it to chip off the next day - and that's if you're lucky enough to get it to last that long!), etc.
i told you i was still girly though... so find me the most gigantic pair of gold earrings - (fake of course and you aren't allowed to spend more than $10) and i'm good to go.
~ gigantic gold earrings in action ~
sometimes i feel like a lost puppy living in the south... the land of fru fru. i'm from california... the land of laid backness and casual. my style is too. if i was really cool, my style would be bohemian. for now, it's wannabe bohemian. well, really for now it's frump... let's face it... i'm 8 months pregnant.
what's your style like? don't feel bad if you're all about the fru fru. i'll still love you and know that you are destined to be way more fashionable than me.

we are so alike....i love wearing neutrals, and i wouldn't call myself girly at all, but i like wearing pretty earrings too.
maybe we're related? lol
I love the bohemian style, but I could never pull it off. I don't like fru fru either, but I definitely like to be girly. Love brown!!!!
I don't really have a style anymore. Clothes have gone way down on the list of things we need to buy. Right now I need a new wardrobe..seriously. :)
I am Soooooooo the same way. All I need is a tank, a great pair of Lucky's, and some flip flops and I'm good to go. No frills, no fuss. I *might* blow out my hair and use a straightner to dress up. I've always wanted to try to go all out and be all cute and all, but it never lasted. Why deviate from what feels good?
At least you got some bling going on in the earrings. That's all the bling ya need. :-)
Hahaha brown is my new black, too - I wear it allll the time! I'm like you in a way in that I like basic pieces that will last me a few years - I don't have money to buy new stuff all the time, so my wardrobe is filled with a lot of "classic" pices - then I just glam it up with big earrings or sunglasses or necklaces. I would say definitely girly but not fru-fru. :)
Girly you are far from plain my friend! I think you always look so cute in your pics! I do love the bohemian style but I totally couldn't rock it! You so could though! I am a little Fru Fru LOL....not as much as I used to be but I do enjoy painting my nails and all that good stuff!
Hope you still like me :0) (just kidding)
Have a fab day friend
xoxo
Summer :0)
I love the Bohemian styles, I do like a splash of color though too sometimes come Spring and Summer. I love what you have shown, I would totally wear that. I tend to dress much younger than I am...but not over done either IMO:) Cute!~
Plain Jane here too! I love simple and comfortable. Maybe it's a West Coast thing...I'm from AZ. Casual and comfort. No fru fru for me either.
I did live in Nashville and even the ponytails are big!
You're gorgeous and your style works for you. :)
Happy Thursday!
I don't think I even have a style. I think I would probably call it bum or lazy though. T-shirts and jeans, workout clothes, and every once in a while a cute top with some ruffles. There just isn't much point in trying to look cute when one of your kiddos is sure to wipe snot, dirt, or worse all over you:)
I love Bohemian but can't really pull it off. My style is very preppy: Gap, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, etc.
However, I never pay full price for anything - I am such a sale/clearance shopper!
You an me...all the way. That's what I love to wear. However, normally, I'm pretty boring. Sandals. Jeans with a t-shirt and a cardigan. Sigh. What NOT to Wear has probably been secretly videotaping me.
I told myself that would never happen! And yet, as my kids have gotten older (and I've added more) I've slowly slipped down the road of <<<>>> boring.
Very fun post!
I go back and forth. Sometimes I like to step-it-up but for the most part I'm a jeans kind of girl. (And brown is my favorite color to wear!)
This style is so cute! My husband likes this kind of stuff too. If I had to pick I would say my style would be Glam. I love the makeup, and big eyeliner, pumps, animal prints, sometimes gaudy things and especially BIG HAIR!! :-) Hair teasing is an addiction of mine! But honestly Im kind of a tight wad so I dont buy alot of clothes and accessories so my style ends up being more boring and laid back than I would like because when I do shop I try to buy things that can go with everything and I can wear to work or out and dress up or dress down. pffffttt. If I had lots of $$$ this might be a different story. haha!
I'm all about the simplicity! I adore white and jeans are a mainstay ... kakis too. I love pale pink as well (goes with my complexion). So yea, my style pretty simple. : )
LOVE the pictures!!!
LOVE your style. A casual bohemian. Even if you are 8 mo. pregnant. ;-)
Smiles! :-)
--Hannah
My style is GAP / J CREW / ANN TAYLOR - very casual. I love jeans, sandals, t-shirts. I tend to go for gray and navy blue - but I've been trying to branch out to greens/reds/pinks/purples/yellows, etc. I hardly EVER wear a dress or skirts. I love cardigans. I do love gettin' my nails did - I have had "fake" nails for over 2 years. ;-)
I'm WITH YA! I do not fru, I do not ruffle hardly ever, I don't polka dot, or neon it up with animal prints. I'm a green, every shade of chocolate, lighter shades of aqua, teal, and blue and simple leather (not shiny!) purse happy. And I do love some crazy, but non blingy jewelry. And jean jackets. Amen.
i'm a mix of it all. some days i love to be all girly. but i'd love a pedicure every day!! (i'm with you on the waste a mani is)
i'm getting 'used' to the big 'south' bows and such. and bought my girls some flowered headbands...mainly because i want to take pictures of the new baby girl in them. :0)
i also am all about comfy. LOVE yoga-ish type pants from old navy!
i only wear mascara, unless we're going 'out'. and big earrings are fun...except my ears don't like them as much as i do.
i wish i could pull off the style you love though. i got too much junk in the thighs for that! i love those sandals though!
Ugh, I definitely don't have a style but I really need one...I don't even know what it would be!!! Ha! I still dress like I did in high school/college...mostly t-shirts and jeans. I want a style though. Who knows with it would be??!! Definitely not fru fru though!
I'm laid back classic. It's so true, almost to a fault, but I like to think I put a modern twist on things.
And the only jewelery I will wear, for the most part, is a fab pair of earing!
I'm too lazy to be fru fru. And I grew up in the south. I need a personal shopper.
I am always in a cardigan and flats. Do I want to snazz it up? Yep. Do I? no. Why? I think I have an addiction to cardi/flats. I just gravitate towards them. I can't say no. I really want to be more whimsical. bohemian. BUt, I think I need a support group for my cardi/flat issue. Then, I can branch out. Help me, please!
I love the clothing choices and agree, neutrals are the best! Cute pictures of you guys also.
Haha. Well missy, I think you are adorable! I don't really have a style. It changes all the time. I wouldn't call myself "stylish" by any means but I sure do try! I'm all about comfy :)
fru fru is too too girly for me! Being a big old prego and mom to a crazy 1 year old I dont think I have any sense of style (or at least thats what i feel like)...its all about comfort haha, for now at least!
I like casual bohemian (and I love the way it sounds too haha)
Ha! I am so into neutrals as well...they go with everything! I think the most fun is pairing the neutrals with fun accessories (enter fabulous gold or turquoise earrings). By the way, I am a (fairly) new follower and wanted to say that I am really enjoying your blog!
neutrals and very little girliness going on here either. I think I used to be more before I had kids but now I'm just getting back to wearing a little jewelry once and a while. no nail polish though. i time of doing the dishes and it's ruined! I was thinking about getting a pedi though... hmmm totally for relaxation purposes! :)
i'm just like you, i am all about buying things that will go with just about everything. i don't want to spend too much on something that will not be cool next season...plus i'm a t-shirt, jeans, and flip flop kinda girl...that makes it even worse :)
Haha...I'll let you know when I figure it out. I'm thinking I'm more like you...I'm absolutely girlie. I love being a girl...but dressing up always sounds great until I do it and then I'm uncomfortable. I feel best in a cute pair of shorts, cute top, sandals, big earings, and a cute pair of sunglasses with a cute bag to match (usually all of the above come from either walmart, target or on sale!)...
OMG I will take that entire outfit as well!
I'm feelin ya! I grew up in Ohio and when I came to Kentucky for college (is Kentucky really considered the south?) my eyes were opened to a whole new world of lots of make up, nails done, polka dots, frills, monogramming, etc. I don't really know if I have a style - pretty classic I think, but I will accessorize with polka dots every now and then :)
Being a Cali girl, I sometimes feel like this might be the land of 'fru fru'. I have a love-hate relationship with it. Some days it's just yoga pants and a tank with a hat...love that I can do that on my Spring Break, but then other days it's the glam earings and trendy tops. Gotta love Forever 21 for that "cheap" thrill! That is where I get most of my 'fru fru' jewelry so cheap!!!
But when you're preggo...that's a whole different story! I hated getting dressed and feeling like the whole world looked so much cuter than I did. You however are always stylin :)
I'm sorta trendy, glam, edgy I guess. I'm not really fru fru, I don't really dig monograms for myself or polka dots. But I do like some animal prints and bright colors. My main neutral is black altho I do like the occasional brown :)
Mine is exactly like your's.
I'm in love with brown and have always been.
Add in an easy pop of color like turquoise or red, and I'm good to go!
I posted a picture of the inside of my house the other day on my blog, and was a bit shocked by how much brown I have... It does need more color!
Good question. I don't even know what my style is these days. Whatever is clean and fits, I guess. :)
I'm a laid back kinda girl. Jeans/capris, flip flops & t shirts!! With big sunglasses & thats about it..occasionally a dress in the summer!!
i'm all about the practical frou frou..... Love this selection..... I saw your post.... I grew up in Novato......

CEO
i love your stlye!!
and i can see how boho fits you perfectly! so cute.
i guess my style would be kooky HAHA! i pair polka with stripes and flowers. i am always wearing dresses and skirts! they are my fave.
I love big earring too! I am a big fan of necklaces as well. Simple style and colors, but mix it up with accessories. Not sure what my style is...I would say Target haha
Oh and LOVE my nails painted =)
I have a really laid back style as well. You can usually find me in jeans, a tank, and flip-flops. Occasionally I'll wear a summer dress or skirt but it's not as easy to hide my post baby belly in those. My mom makes fun of me all the time about not having what she refers to as "grown up" shoes. I may be almost 28 but I feel like a 15 yr old so I guess I dress like one too. LOL!
Isn't great being from California! I'm super girly, I like dresses bows etc...however I'm also lazy my nails are hardly ever done and I tend to buy the same shirt in 5 colors...summer is my favorite because I just wear dresses because they're easy and quick!
Lately my style has been "frumpy mom"! I always swore I wouldn't let myself go (so to speak) once a baby came, but it's hard getting two people ready, and I've just felt way tired lately! I need to snap out of it! :)
I have to say I am not all about the fru fru either! ;) Practical sounds pretty good to me!
You are adorable! I love your style and the fact that you are simplistic. I think the best finds are at my local consignment store! You are the most fashionable pregnant lady I know for sure. My style is very girlie, but simple. I like soft, sexy, comfy, flowing, pretty pieces that are super cheap:)
I never know what to call my style. I guess classic? I'm pretty girly too, lol.
My style would be called "poor mom". I think it will catch on any day now...
Love the pics & your picks! Ha! I guess you would call my style, frumpy mom. Most of the time the hair is in a ponytail and I'll have on jeans & a t-shirt (to hide my rolls). Oh and don't forget the flip flops.
I always wear neutral colors, black, and brown. It's so much easier to mix and match things. I feel like Dallas people dress up a lot, and that's one of the main things I miss about laid back California. I feel like an outcast here in my laid back clothes, but I guarantee I'm far more comfortable. Hah! Cute pictures... I love the gold earrings.
I hope you aren't having as many uffda moments! Have a great day!
Oh and we definitely would be friends in real life!!
I love black and white..sometimes gray. With the black white and gray I add some color. I love bright stand out colors. Neon green or some neon pink. I like to stand out but not too much. I love the polyvore you put together.!
your so cute! wish I could pull off the bohemian look too!
i absolutely agree with you. i don't understand fashion, and tend to dress up only on special occasions. i put a little more thought into my work wardrobe right now, but that's only because i work afternoons/evenings and have a lot of time in the morning to think about it! i'm a jeans & tank top kind of girl, the one who wears a bikini under her clothes as many days during the summer as possible, and buys her favorite jeans in sets of 4 because they always wear out.
Hey Carissa! I love this post! I understand the whole fru fru thing and it's everywhere down here! I think you have great style because it's you and you're not being someone else.
I think my style is eclectic because I love to try all different types of looks. It's fun trying to spice it up a bit :)
I like whatever i like...if it is fru fru and I like it then I like it. If it is punk and I like it then I like it. If it is casul and I like it then I like it. If it is sporty and I like it then I like it. and so on.... i have no personal style. I prolly lean toward fru fru more? I don't know but this new watch I go is bling...but I like it. you are way too cute all the time so don't worry.
Yes neutrals any day of the week! I love em! Im not a big fan of prints and stuff like that. Im also the worst interior decorator because of this. Every room is neutral and boring! But I totally agree, big gold earrings are the BEST!!
I love brown too! I've always been a casual dresser... if I could I would live in jeans and a t.shirt, but alas, sometimes I have to dress up... but never wear a skirt without pants or jeans under. Crazy aye! Love your style.
Too cute! I'm not too much of a girly girl but definitely more laid back/cute/comfy :)
I don't think I have a style. But if I had to define it, I would probably say girly. I like wearing dresses, but then again that's mostly because they are comfortable and easy (a whole outfit in one piece--Bonus!).
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love your style and I love the gigantic gold earrings!!! Have a Great Day!
I am SO not girly! I always say I want to be fru-fru, but can't pull it off. I want to wear heels and glam it up, but most of the time I feel like frump-city. :( :(
BUT I do rock the bows for my girls... when Keira was born someone thought she was a boy and we never left the house without a bow again.
And I don't really "get" monograms... I don't think I ever saw them before blogging!! They are cute for little girls, though- so I put the girls' monograms above their beds. :)
I think you are adorable though. Definitely classic and classy! :)
i agree - bohemian is the heart of my style. but i also have a massive amount of hipster in me. i love me some vintage dresses with cute flats!
and i know what you mean about the south. i was forced to live there most of my life and now, living in san francisco, i finally feel like i'm home in every aspect of life.
I am a California girl all the way. I have my fair share of browns and blacks. I usually go with blue jeans, I HEART blue jeans! I also love my flip flops. I do get fancy with those though, I have a purple pair, a black pair and a polka dot pair. When it's time to dress up, I grab earings, necklace, cute blouse and ofcourse my blue jeans.
love, love!! I'm totally not fru fru either! I am all about neutrals, like you. Earrings and scarves are my staple. I could wear my jean jacket every day of the week and not think twice about it. (It's the teacher in me, I think.) I love comfy, laid-back clothes and flip flops!
You're so funny. I am with you. I love wearing brown and jean jackets and dangly earrings. I am not fru fru, but I'm also pretty southern. I got the big hair going on. Not because I pump it up with loads of product though, just because God gave me a big 'ol bunch! :)
I have to say, I think you look great! Especially for 8 months pregnant. I love your style. The older I get the more I appreciate people who can just be who they are. It's so refreshing!
I'm with you on the plain Jane 100%. Except how do you manage to wear earrings when you have a baby?! Mines pulls my any kind of earrings :(
Except I think living in Hawaii, we are even MORE casual than most other states...
1. LOVE brown so much more than black. I have like 86 pairs of brown shoes and 1 pair of black (only because I needed at least A pair of them!)
2. I feel totally the same way about the south-my dad lives in Texas and as soon as i step off the plane it becomes very obvious that I'm the only girl in the room without giant fake nails, 3 lbs. of makeup, or heels in the airport.
3. I love bohemian stuff too and I think it's VERY fashionable : )
love it all! i am so not fru fru!!!!! it kills my friends! but you are beautiful & dont need anything extra!
Yeah, I dont think I have a style.. esp since I still need to lose 20 pounds, I just wear alot of black because I can hide the fat..lol!
I really love the look you put together! Great blog, following you now! xoxo
oh carissa, i am as girly as you can get.
pink, lace, bows, frilly...you getting the picture??
hope you still like me!
love the top
I stumbled across your blog and wanted to say hi.
Take a minute an check my blog out
I have lots of great giveaways going on.
Thanks :)

I am so girly when it comes to get my nails done every week and my roots retouched every four weeks and so on.
And I am really classic when it comes to clothes: tailor made pants, fitted jackets, pearls and heels.
I can be quite the little miss frou frou, but then I love the whole boho chic thing as well, I am all over the map sometimes! I want that little top in your collage, so cute.
You're so cute :) I'm not very fru fru...but try to sometimes and wear a frilly dress...but mostly I wear alot of white, gray and black. How many white and gray shirts can one have anyway...LOTS! haha! I love the sandals in the pic...and I know you look super cute with your 8-month self!
very cute post... love the whole neutral palette theme! have a nice one!
my style totally depends on what i'm doing, where i'm going and who i'm going to be with. i always feel like i'm over dressed ;) it's just who i am i guess. i always have my makeup face on and my hair did. i like being a girly girl.
hope you have a great night/weekend sweet girly!! :)
I dont really have a style! I LOVE your style though!!!! You are always so pretty in whatever you are sporting!haha.......I like whatever looks good and fits on me comfy, and bright colors, some of what you picked Id so wear!
You are beautiful!! I love these photos!! I am new to your blog and so this is a late congrats but CONGRATS 8 months wahooo. My style I would have to say I love neutrals as well, I love soft white shirts, jeans that are relaxed and always wear them with a cute pair of sandals or boots, or my yellow converse. I love being comfortable, and love soft clothes. I love simple necklaces with one or two charms, and absolutely love colorful scarves. So happy to have found your blog! XO
You are so cute, and I love your style! It fits you all too well (I'm not talking about the 8 month frump! haha) ... but the bohemian. You sound resourceful, yet you are still beautiful!
I'm pretty low maintenance, but at the same time, I definitely like to dress up and be super girly! My nails are always clear. I agree, the chipping is too annoying. I will spend a fortune on good jeans (that's my splurge.) I can do light makeup, or HEAVY smokey eyes. Love both. ;)
Hi, I left you a little award over at my site. :)
you're so cute.
my fashion style is possibly a little confused. i worked retail at fossil for four years so neutrals and "modern vintage" became my style. well, i've been attracted to more colors lately and my pocketbook has finally allowed me to shop where i want (anthro). i grew up with two older brothers so tom boy i was for several years. now i'm attracted to anything with ruffles and making my own dresses. i moved up into the mountains and now my patagonia vests and jackets make their way into my wardrobe daily. its been a crazy cycle.
all this to say i think i'm still trying to figure your question out.
My style is exactly what you just described. My friend laughed at me Sunday when she showed up at church (where it was a sea of colorful easter dresses) and found me in yes of course grey. I can't help it. I know what works for me. Love your blog.

Hi!! I just discovered your blog and I love it!! I just started mine... you should check it out, but I may be a little more frou-frou than you!
Love, L
http://lemonsweetbylesliehall.blogspot.com/
Nice to have wandered to your blog- so interesting! My style is anything nice I find in the ukay ukay (that's filipino for vintage!). I've found some really good classic styles , and embroidered boho, etc. so I'll try anything. But my favorite are dresses that are so easy to just slip on but fit well.
I love that outfit you put together, so cute!! Girl, you get a ton of comments and tons of followers!! What are you doing to get all the traffic?
LOVELOVELOVE!!!! I wouldn't necessarily call myself casual, because I do like totally going mad with different patterns and long necklaces, and artsy-fartsy accessories sometimes, but I LOVE the natural look. So, right on. ;)
I am for sure a girly girl at heart. But that doesn't mean I don't sport all kinds of other styles too. I wear what I like! A little bit of everything.
PS: How on earth have i missed your last 5 posts??? I heart your blog :)
I so love your blog!
So ... style? Since I'm about old enough to be your mother, I'm not quite up on the latest styles. However ... I do like style, and I don't want to fit in anybody's "box". So ...
... since I do NOT want to "look like a homeschool mama", I gave up the denim jumpers about 15 years ago. :)
... since I do NOT want to "look like the mother of a dozen children", I don't go out in sweats and dirty t-shirts.
However, since I AM a homeschoolin' mama, and since I AM a mama of a dozen crazy kids, my style is COMFORTABLE, but stylish.
I wear jeans most all the time (even to church, and I'm the "pastor's wife"). Oh my! Guess what? My husband even wears jeans to preach in.
But, to top off those jeans, I like COLOR. I love greens and purples, but brown has been a new color for me this past year (with my lime green fleece vest this winter). I love my new denim jacket, and my silk scarves (that I bought in Argentina and Africa).
My feet like to be comfortable, too. So ... I own 6 pair of flip flops, 3 pair of crocs (lime green, purple, blue), and a pair of birkenstocks. But, this winter I have loved my new clogs.
So ... I guess this mama likes to go comfy and casual, but not frumpy.
Laurel :)
