a letter to mr. sun

if you haven't entered to win a $30 gift certificate to the rusted chain, click here to have a chance to win a piece of this beauty!

~~~
dearest mr. sunshine,
i like you {see image 1} and your glorious, warm, vitamin-d-filled self.  spending time with you used to be my favorite way to spend the day away.
{image 1}
i know, you feel like i've abandoned you.  let's face it...  i have. i graduated college, became an adult, had a real job and then became a mom.  since then, laying out has not happened as much as i'd like.  oh wait.  it hasn't happened.  at all.  i miss being tan {see image 2}.  i miss how much better a tan makes your fat look {thank you for that, by the way}.
{image 2}
i remember our precious days together in high school, as i was a lifeguard for two summers.  it was blissful.  i blew my whistle here and there, yelled at a few hundred kids every day, saved some lives and bathed in your rays for eight whole hours, five days per week.  oh yeah, and got paid to do it.  it rocked.  i hope you enjoyed it as much as i did.  i'm sure i'll regret it later when melanoma pays me a visit.
don't worry.  i won't be cheating on you ever again... my hubby has lovingly banned me from your impostor tanning beds in the interest of my health.  one day i know i'll thank him for it.
in the meantime, i've been introduced to tan in a can...  sun heaven in a bottle.  don't be mad... i just don't have time for you right now.  i must tell other people about my discovery and the special discount they can have on this awesome counterfeit... i hope you'll understand.
Too funny! I am the same way. Right now, the only things on my body that has a natural tan are my feet...and they have flip flop lines:) I love sun in a can though!
too funny...I too have abandoned the sun tan for the fake stuff in a can.
Ohhhhh I need to try that! I'm always looking for an alternative to tanning beds. :(
Ashley said...
This is hilarious! I can relate 100%! That bottle is a life saver in the winter months though when alittle bit of color (especially in those fat areas) is much needed! ;)
Beth Priest said...
I actually have a date with him at the beach today! I'll ask if his feelings are hurt. I will tell him you said hey...if that's alright!
Katie said...
Awww too cute! I love being in the sun and feel soooo good after spending time ourside! The only bad part is if you get burned. I wonder if Mr Sun has it out for me? Oh, well nothing a big hat and SPF can't handle!
myletterstoemily said...
what kind of person would i be today if i had traded those
thousands of sunning hours with more industrious endeavors?
oh well.
thanks for the $2.00!
Kristy said...
i WISH i could lay out! I am SOOOOOO white (practically clear!) that I burn, peel, repeat! Not fun! :S I've been laughing and saying that I need a "Maw-maw" hat to keep the sun off my nose.
I love that pic of you and your hubby! So cute!! :)
Mandy said...
Cute, cute pictures! Wait until your littles get a bit older and you won't have to 'cheat' anymore! I am totally NOT an outside person, and I was just thinking that I have already been out more this spring than in the last several, apartment-bound, years combined. I might actually have a tan this year, and I'm so excited! Have a great weekend! (Oh, and I'll have your package on its way tomorrow morning!)
I love meaningful things that are so simple.
I'm sure mr. sun understands why you have been so absent latley, lol.
Can't wait to try your tan in a can :)
I love this! I also love the sun. Unfortunately it does not love me. The only tan I can get is in a can!
well thanks to skin cancer i try not to let me skin feel the rays...(spf is my friend) but hub's like the pale white skin...sadly he married the wrong chick for this b/c i've never been pale white...even if i was locked in a cave for years...i'd still have some color! ha ha
Jen said...
we're the same person!! i was a ultra-tan lifeguard for many summers past and since graduation it has all gone down hill...pale as can be. almost see-through. thanks for sharing your sun-in-a-bottle-secret!! i'll have to get my pastey white hands on some of that!
Lane said...
I don't even want to think about how pale I am right now. :) I have that exact same dress!!! I can't fit into it since having Ellington, but that's ok. Haha.
Karisa Tells All said...
I've been using a self tanner lotion that smells terrible AND leaves streaks. I can't even use the sun because I just burn, and I'm afraid of wrinkles and cancer. Perhaps I should try this stuff!
Lauren said...
too funny!!! I have the same problem ... used to spend tons of time in the sun - then real life hit - and now I am forced to use jergens tanning lotion... **sigh**
The Shiny Pebble said...
Crafty! I like it.
jozen said...
LMAO!!!
love it!
Sunny Sue said...
I was also a lifeguard but probably much different than you. Grew up in a tiny town... only 2 lifeguards and pool only open for 5 hours/day. However, you can still get leather thighs and shoulders sitting in that chair every day! I haven't seen that sun in 20 years. (Obviously much older than beautiful you!) I ordered my SmartShield right away. :-)
Fancy Pants said...
You make me laugh:)
littledaisymay said...
I love having a tan too! Your pictures are beautiful!
LeAnna said...
Is it really good stuff? Most sunless tanners turn me orange, but I am the absolute essence of whiteness itself, so maybe I just shouldn't tempt nature. Ha! But, if it smells good...
Dear Image number 2,
You are the cutest couple!!!
PS. off to check out that link now...had enough with the sun spots and wrinkles for a lifetime...thanks!
Meg Fletcher said...
My husband banned me from the tanning beds too...I'm not as compliant as you are...I'm still trying to let me do it! I love to be tan as well, Cali girls...
Angie S said...
We call him Mr. Golden sun in our house! And I too miss those care-free "laying out" days.
I may have to find a Mr. Golden suntan in a can :)
Jill said...
Oh how I miss the sun too - and the tanning bed - and my tan! I may have to try this stuff for sure!
Ya'll are adorable in the pics!
Hattie said...
Hahaha! To funny! Love this post. Me & the sun do not get along. It loves to burn my pale freckled skin to a crisp. Hope y'all have a good, sun filled weekend!!!
I love the pictures and creativity of your post. Can't wait to read more! New follower from Friday Follow!
your imposter! haha I love sun tanning. I'll take the wrinkles I don't care. It's worth it.
Brittany said...
Super cute post!
I have to be honest though: I'm a smidge jealous of your relationship with Mr. Sun - he does not love me that way I love him, because he always turns my skin into something resembling the skin of a tomato.
Perhaps I'll give the tan in a can a shot one of these days.
Maria Lane said...
I LOVE The sun!!!!!!!!cant get enough of it in the summer!! I used to tan in the tanning bed like 2 or 3 times a week and was TOO dark up until november.....I noticed i was WAY TOO DARK.The last time I went to the taning bed was in nov.....and i have no tan or color now so sun will be seeing me this weekend!!!!!:)
i'm sure mr. sun misses you terribly! but you have a good reason for not soaking it in.
but i hope you get to see mr. sun a ton this summer with your kiddies!!
Ashley said...
*sigh* I miss him too. I too was a lifeguard for many many years... highschool and college. *sigh*
I have yet to try anything out of the bottle. I'm to scared that I'll look like an oompa loompa :) I think I might have to try the one you reviewed!!!
hilarious! My hubby . . . and my dermatologist has banned me from tanning too. I had a baaaad moel removed from my back and a huge scar to prove it (but I still rock my tube tops during the summer!)
Anywho yayyyyy for sun!
Hope your hubby enjoyed mowing the grass today, and soaking up some of the sunshine that you don't have time for :-) lol
You are too witty and me new favorite blog :) I too love how when you are tan it makes your fat look good :) I just love having a tan when I am working out. It totally makes you feel like you look better than you really do when you are white and flabby :) lol
Leslie, Lemon Sweet Life said...
You are so funny!!! I love the sun too and I miss being tan so much but I was diagnosed with melanoma last November and I am only 27!! I caught it early so it's ok but you are so smart to get a tan from the bottle!!
A Lil Story said...
Hehe, I so feel ya, I just don't have the time to lay out!!
I don't use a tanning bed anymore, but I have found a lot of sunless tanners that work wonders... I am hoping to keep wrinkles at bay for as long as possible ;)
LMAO - so funny! It's such a catch22 - you need the sun for Vitamin D but sun can cause all sorts of irreparable damage.
I'm like farmgirl paints...freckle and burn. No in between. I still freckle like crazy. You'd think that since I was getting <<>> older that it would stop.
Oh, yeah, and I'm pretty much banned from the sun as well.
Thanks for the lovely compliments on my little totes and bags on etsy.
I haven't had time here lately to create more of them because of school, so I take requests and special orders so if you ever need a cute gift you know where to find one!
this is hilarious!! Although my time with Mr. Sun has grown thin with this "big girl" teaching job I've had for the past two years, I do still get a 30 minute visit with him every day (when the weather is nice)...so right now in this time in life...I rock a "recess tan"! :)
Cute post!
I LOVE the sun, and can't WAIT for spring and summer (it hasn't quite come to the Pacific NW yet).
My favorite summer activity with all the kids ... go to the beach, set up my beach chair, read a good book, drink a big Peach Ice Tea, and watch the kids play in the sand or wade in the water.
Laurel :)
Oh Mr. Sun...how I miss thee. I adore thee. You make me happy. I do not need to sit and soak up you rays, but I need to know you are there and feel the warmth.
Ever since we moved from So. Cal...I appreciate the sun so much...we have so much fog!
Jess said...
Your skin will thank you in the long run! You are so incredibly pretty in those photos by the way!
Amen! I miss laying by the pool! I will have to invest in some tan in a can!
Kimbirdy said...
oh I wish I had a tan! it's hard being half swedish and half scottish. actually, I'm in the midst of total body beautification for a special event + trip at the end of the summer. so that self-tanner really works huh? hmm... :)
Abigail Kraft said...
Ok, first....let me just thank your husband for banning you from tanning beds. I have read SO many things that can happen because of tanning beds. Thank you!!!! ;)
Secondly....let's just say, if I spent 8 hours in the sun every day, I'd turn into a walking rash. lol. I'm the whitest person I know. When my family went on vacation to California, I got a terrible rash from the all of the sun exposure. Towards the end of our trip, I had to wear long sleeves....LONG SLEEVES....to the beach. In the middle of the day. It was sad.
I envy you people who gain so much joy from the sun....there's actually something chemical in fairer skinned people that makes them not need the sun as much. We automatically produce more vitamin D than dark skinned people, and I guess we don't get that "I'll go mad if I don't see the sun" syndrome that I always hear my mom and brother talking about. haha.
Anyway...the sun IS good though. And I do enjoy it....and in moderation, it is quite pleasant. Just don't ask me to tan, cuz it's not happening! lol. :D
Love ya!
