miscellany monday + giveaway winner.

{1} drumroll please..... without further or do, i'd love to introduce you to the new owner of a $30 gift certificate to the rusted chain: jennifer! congrats!  jennifer, by the way, makes me laugh so hard every time i visit her blog.  she rocks!  and thank you beki, for your incredible jewelry and the chance for someone to be treated to some!

here's the proof:

{2} taco bell, why oh why, did you decide to tear yourself down when you were conveniently located just 5 minutes from my house?!?  i know you'll be brand new and back in business in 71 days, but i'll no longer be pregnant then...  i won't need your heavenly 89 cents, no onion bean burrito's any longer.  i'm sure my thighs will thank you.

{3} decisions, decisions... okay, i know you are eager, anxious and dying to hear what i chose.  pink bins or liberty of london for the changing table?  i went with the minority and chose the plain pink.  remember, i told you to call me plain jane.  the pink goes better with the bedding.  i felt like the bedding + liberty of london = visual chaos.  this way, the bedding + plain pink = calm and subtle.  thank you for your sweet help!

{4} another decision... remember when i asked about babywearing?  i was trying to decide whether to get a baby bjorn, ergo, or moby.  i chose the ergo {thanks to my mama for getting it for us!}... it's so versatile; it can be worn on your back, front or side, and holds kiddies up to 40 lbs.  which means i can use it for both babies {at different times... don't go reporting me to dss.}  and daddy will even want to sport it.  i'd love to get a moby or sleepywrap too, but convincing my man that i need both may be a challenge {especially in light of #5, below}.

{5} confession: with the reality of our sweet sage arriving soon, the thought of medical bills, double the amount of diapers, and having two unreliable stinky cars, i have been weighed down with disbelief and anxiety.  the truth of the matter is, i'm choosing to worry rather than to trust in the Lord's provision.  today i'm meditating on this:  matthew 6:26 - "look at the birds of the airthey neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. are you not of more value than they?"

with the whole double diapers thing.. you know I'm starting to cloth diaper.. why don't you try it? if you don't mind washing them. I'm using the flip which you can buy a day pack for $50.. I'm going to buy more. for $200 its almost all the diapers we will need.. just random disposable ones for when we travel!

I was really pulling for the LOL bins! I saw them this weekend at Target and thought of you and Sage!

And total 'eeew' to the Taco Bell...I'll give you an exception though because you're pregnant! It may have been a blessing in disguise that it was demolished! Ha!

Carissa,
Try not to worry sweet friend! I know it is easier said than done! God will see you through this too! I will pray extra hard for you on this one and pray your mind gets some ease from worrying!

Congrats to the winner! LUCKY!!

LOL about Taco Bell....um I don't have a reason to indulge as much as I do....LOL

Yay on picking a baby wearing product!! Oh and yay on picking bins...the pink ones are cute to....you have to go with what you like and not with what everybody else does....I'm glad you did that :0)

Have a great day friend

There are days when I say that verse to myself all day long - believe me! He WILL take care of you!

Kelli @ RTSM said...

That verse is awesome! We had two in diapers for about a year and half, and it felt like we were spending half of our money on diapers...but it's also like you get a raise when they are potty trained:) I bet the pink bins look adorable! Can't wait to see the finished nursery!

Domesticated-Bliss said...

Such an appropriate verse :) I'm sure you have faith that the Lord will provide, he'll never give you more than you can handle!

happy monday!

Hannah said...

Congrats to the giveaway winner! That was very fun...and I loved the jewelry! :-)

I think the pink is a good choice too--definitely the soft and subtle look, which is always nice.

As Domesticated-Bliss said, very appropriate verse! A good one to meditate on.

Love,

congrats to the winner.

taco bell. oh how i miss ours. we had one. then they closed it. tore down the gas station it was in and now...it's a walgreens. SO NOT THE SAME THING! ((when i was pregnant with amelya i had taco bell FIVE times in two weeks. lol. that could explain the 45 pound weight gain i guess)) i've craved mexican with each pregnancy actually.

yay for an ergo. i'd reccommend the wrap too. :0) check out craigslist, i know i've seen some for sale on our local craigslist before. the ergo is super nice though. you'll love it. in fact i've carried dustin in it while pregnant.

diapers. fun stuff. i've had three in diapers twice. the second time it was cloth so it was a bit easier on the 'money' side, but still work! and thanks for that verse. above all else your blog totally was used for that verse for me today!!

have a great monday!

What???? I didn't win?????? Alright, alright...congrats to the winner...and I'm going to check out her blog and tell her congrats as well. I liked her sense of humor.

Good call going for restful. I know I liked the liberty ones, but I also like peace...so excellent choice.

I'm praying for the peace of God for your heart. When Todd was going through radiation treatments my grandpa died and our finances got really messed up (imagine that...out of work for 9 months...and then that happens?) I really had to surrender those fears and anxieties to the Lord. He KNOWS what you need. You are inscribed on HIS hand. This new little one? More precious and priceless than anything money could ever buy.

Blessings on your day (and rats, Hannah beat me here this morning),

Rachel

I have not eaten taco bell in probably 4 years (crazy, I know) I just forget about that place BUT I had to tell you that I order bean burrito's with no onions, too. It made me laugh!

Kendra said...

Things will come together smoothly. Put your faith in God. He will do only good things. I'm glad you went with the pink bins. They are subtle and cute.! Have a great day girl.!

Kelli said...

Carissa...you always give a verse just when I need to hear it. I tend to (OK, always) worry instead of leaning of God's strength and grace. I'll be praying for you.
Ooh, Taco Bell...it's funny because I love it but that's the one thing I could not eat while pregnant...it was a long 9 months.
Yeah for the pink bins!

Shelby Bukhenik said...

I thought the pink ones were what you'd go with!

Everything works out as they should, I have learned that for sure! But, I think these pregnancy hormones multiply the anxiety.

Heather @ Gerber Days said...

Looks like you made some good choices! I liked the plain pink too. In reality, they will last you longer since they aren't as trendy. You will have to let me know you you like the Ergo.

I love how much faith and trust you have in God, and how you aren't afraid to share it with others!

Have a great Monday Carissa.

Sarah Ann said...

I like the plain pink. :) And you guys are such an inspiration to trust in God for provision!!

I often worry about finances as well, working only part time. but i know that our Lord will take care of me and my little family. He is looking out for all of us.

Candace said...

We just had a Taco Bell open near our house, so I will eat enough for the both of us!

Karisa Tells All said...

I've still never been to a Taco Bell, but I can imagine your disappointment--if they took away my Qdoba I'd be so mad!

Jessica said...

Its SO hard somedays to really tell yourself to stop worrying. Sometimes you cant help it. Even if, deep down, you know He will provide! And I think you know He will!! Hang in there! Its the hormones...

LeAnna said...

Congrats to the winner!
Boo for taco bell!
You'll LOVE your Ergo!!!!!
And...wonderful verse to remember. I also like to bring out 2nd Corinthians 10:5 during such occasions (um, like all the time?)

"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."

I have to remind myself of this DAILY. He is Faithful though!

{Ditto the cloth diapers! That combined with couponing my disposables is the only way I'm not going to choke. Seriously, I never pay more than 4 or 5 bucks a pack for Huggies, who have the best coupons out there.}

I've read your blog for a few weeks now, but I've never commented. And then you mentioned Taco Bell.

I drove by that exact Taco Bell at lunch time. I haven't wanted Taco Bell in a while, but ever since they tore it down, I crave it every time I drive by. And I don't have pregnancy to blame it on!

P.S. You're friends with my dear friend Jennifer Lott. Your next babies will be super close in age, right? Fun!

Joyeful said...

I love the pink bins. They look classic : ) And I know the anxious feelings well, and the verse you shared really helped me, too. He takes care of the birds- he clothes the lilies in splendor and He will do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine for us!

Prayers and Hugs to you!

Jewls said...

It WILL all work out! I've found that even if we're not rich (which I don't know how people who adopt can be), we always have enough! The Lord does provide!

Glad you made nursery and carrying decisions...I do love my moby, so if you don't like your choice, you can always switch... :)

Beth Priest said...

wish I won! darn. I laugh at your letter to taco bell...I was the same way when I was preggo with darby. Can't stand the idea of taco bell now and couldnt before pregnancy but it was a daily request almost when pregnant with d. great promise to cling to. worry isn't responsible it is a sin...I ALWAYS forget that. love that He promises to take care of us today and always....it just may not look like we expect it to.

I love that verse! Another one of my favorites is Phil. 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." It helps a lot when I worry! : )

Our sermon yesterday was from Phil 4:6-9. It was wonderful. It was all about finding peace in the Lord and not having anxiety or worrying. So easy to say and for some reason so difficult to do.

Ahhhh two in diapers. All to familiar! Thankfully Emma is potty trained now..hallelujah!
I can totally relate with you on the financial stuff. It's SO hard when you make the choice to stay home with your babe. But ya know what... God has ALWAYS provided for our family. ALWAYS. I am a firm believer that He will honor our choice to do so. We may not have the nicest things...but we are always clothed, have a home and full bellies. He is so good to provide. Will be praying for you in the upcoming months!

I love #2 lol! I totally relate to you on #5...I'm a born worrier! There is definitely a sense of financial fear! There is so much to think about! I'm seriously working hard to trust the LORD more now than ever! I have to. :o)

Yay, for the pink bins! ..I really liked them. :)

It's so easy to worry about things, especially finances. I think it's great that you are really meditating on that truth from God. He will take care of you. He's blessing you with this new little one and he loves you all.

P.S. God has been keeping our car going for the last 3 or so years. Since we adopted our son we haven't had the money to replace it and we just keep praying that God will help it last and he has! I pray that he'll do that for you too!

I loooooooove that verse. I've done it in my devotions a bunch of times and it always means something different to me each time I read it.

Please let me know about the Ergo. We carried Brooke at a fair the other day and I thought my arms were going to fall off. A baby carrier may be good for my family...

Hattie said...

Great verse! I needed to hear that today, thanks. I'm so happy that the nearest Taco Bell is 15 mins away. If it was any closer I'd be in trouble!!!

Small Burst said...

Oh I really like that verse. And I guess the plain pink bins will go better with bedding that already has some oomph. Happy Monday to you!

cait said...

way to go on making those decisions! About Taco Bell--I have to keep my own thighs away from the cheesy, crunchy gordita. Oh my...amazing! And about that money situation....that verse is so amazingly true. I am so thankful to God that He loves us enough to take care of every little detail in our life...including where your diaper money will come from. Continue to trust in Him...He always provides! What a testimony you'll have after the diaper years!

I drove by our McDonald's and they had a sign saying Wednesday's 5-7 pm 57 cent cheeseburgers. I immediately said, "You know where I'll be at 5:00 on Wednesday." I don't even like their cheeseburgers, but the price, now that I love haha.

Beautiful verse. I hope you're able to take a few deep breaths and a slip in a few relaxing moments. :)

I own the plain pink bins and love them. They're so versatile! Thinking of you and keeping you, your hubby, and baby Sage in my prayers...

Philippians 4:6-7

What is it about Taco Bell and being pregnant...why do we neeeed that stuff?! :)
And you could always still get a nightgown in the Liberty of London print...it's so cute! Or flip-flops.
Your final word was a good one (I guess it was actually the Lord's, which, duh, is always good!)...thank you for sharing!

Mama D.'s Dozen said...

My first pregnancy, I was TOTALLY addicted to Taco Time. Oh my! Seriously ... that was 26 years ago, and I remember it clearly. :)

Now ... on to more serious matters ... I would LOVE to chat with you ... encourage you ... support you ... as you walk through the tough financial stuff. I have totally "been there. done that" for more years than I can count.

The year that we had 5 babies under 5 years old ... sweet hubby's salary was $14,000. And, no, that was NOT back in the 1920's depression. I'm not that old. (LOL)

This year, sweet hubby took a huge pay cut when he quit his teaching job to go into full-time ministry. Our church is paying us $2,500 / month ... our mortgage is $1,500. We have 6 kids at home (and we lost our health insurance), 2 in college, and 1 on the mission field. (plus, of course, our 3 other young adults who are "on their own") So, I KNOW what it means to LIVE ON LESS ... to struggle financially ... but most of all to TRUST THE LORD for HIS provision.

If you'd like to chat, just pop me an email (address on the right sidebar of my blog).

God can and will provide, when we put our trust in Him, and seek His wisdom for our finances (oh yea ... and follow that wisdom that He imparts to us).

Laurel :)

I cloth diaper as well... Saves on the diaper bills. We buy the occasional pack of disposables for our 2 month old. And we buy Huggies Overnights for our 2 year old (who is a super-pee-er and sleeps 14 hours a night). But other than that, we spent about $300 and have enough cloth diapers for both babies. It takes some getting used to, but once you get used to it, it's no big deal at all! Better for the environment too.
