-miscellany monday-

grab it and link up your random musings!

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

{1} alpha the beta.
hunter got a beta fish this weekend.  we named him alpha {hubs came up with the name.  i like it.} apparenly, two kids and a husband weren't enough for me to take care of.  ; )

{2} nuclear potato.
a potato burned up and exploded in our microwave.  and like burnt popcorn, the smell lingers.  bummer. there has to be a trick to get rid of the stench.  any ideas?!

{3} exhaustion.
a few days ago my 10 year old sister proclaimed during dinner that she was "completely exhausted."  i asked her why and she replied, "from swimming in the sun all day."  ahh, the sweet, careless days of childhood summers are sweet indeed.

{4} no pooping in private.
motherhood can be summed up with this: there's no longer any pooping in private allowed; there's always an audience and you don't even really mind.

{5} iphone photos.
i don't have an iphone.  but a few people have taken some iphone photos as of late that i've liked.  yet another reason why they are awesome and the coolest phones in existence.   these are straight from the phones:

this was taken by our awesome photographer friend.

&

this one might not be so fantastic, but this is what my short haircut looks like curly.  it's my favorite way to wear it because it takes all of five minutes.

{6} bragging rights.
my lil' bro is 11.  he's an incredible sailor.  as in a sailboat.  he competes on the weekends and frequently ends up with trophies.  i'm pretty proud of him.  he won first place this past weekend in savannah, ga.  you go lil' bro!  congrats!  meet the future us sailing olympian:

Awesome pics - especially that one of your little brother! What an awesome accomplishment.

I've heard that putting a lemon in the microwave and heating it up for a little while helps with the smell in the actual microwave. Who knows but burning a potato in the microwave sounds like something I would do!

Your short, curly hair is cute! I have been leaving mine curly too this summer because it's just downright easier but I really need to get rid of some of the length so it's not so weighed down!

Have a great day :) I pray for strength for you - I know the exhaustion stinks in the beginning but (as you very well know) it's oh-so-worth-it!

Wow, check out your little bro! That's awesome. And yeah, I mean, soaking up the sun and swimming all day really is exhausting. I'm totally feeling your sister's pain ;) How sweet that you have little siblings to totally brighten your day, that's so great. My hubs has a little brother 20 years younger.

Your hair looks great! I'm so glad you love your shorter do. Isn't it the best to be able to wash and go?! Have a great week, girly!

Thank you for the opportunity to be random today ;)

I love the i-phone pictures of you. Just beautiful!

Your little brother really looks like he enjoys sailing a lot and is really focused on his aim. It is really good to have something like that in your life! He looks really happy :)

Have a wonderful day,
Kate

OMG I have so blown up a potatoe in the microwave before too....I put a lemon in the microwave and heat it up a little and it will help with the smell in the microwave as for the house use a febreeze candle or spray....that's what I use

Love the name Alpha for the Beta :0) Love it....made me laugh right out loud....

Oh I feel ya on the bathroom privacy thing haven't had that since Kelcee was born I always have an audience and I don't mind LOL

Your brother is a cutie, congrats to him and his awesome sailing skills.....

Awww yay for younger siblings! My brother is 14... so I know how insane the comments can sound. No pooping in privacy made me chuckle at work. Such a random thing to happen and so funny!

No fish for us here...three kiddos is plenty for me to feed and clean up after:) Luck for you fish are pretty easy to deal with! The potato thing had me cracking up. I hate when popcorn leaves that gross burnt smell in my microwave. I think baking soda may help get rid of the smell. Have a great Monday!

DORCAS said...

Beautiful and fabulous as always you are! I cracked up laughing when I read #4. That's my life in a bubble. These little ones go with me where ever I go "Literally>" Congrats to your brother that is super cool. And the potato. You poor thing. Hopefully the smell will go away.

Enjoy your Monday

I LOVE burnt popcorn. Smell AND tastes. Crazy, huh?! Everyone thinks i'm crazy! Hope you had a great weekend, pretty lady :)

Jess said...

I'm a teacher and I find myself often dreaming of those carefree days the kiddos tell me about. Too bad they won't believe me that they have it so good... but I didn't believe grown ups about that either!

Love your miscellany!!! Great photos :)

cait said...

well it definitely must be the photographer behind the phone, because my iphone pics never end up as artistic! :) How amazing about your little bro...what a neat sport! Happy Monday!

Becca said...

OH to just lay in the sun all day long. I remember very distinctively my mother telling me not to grow up so fast because it isn't as fun as I imagined.

LOVE your hair styled like that. SUPER cute!

The Little Blonde Girl said...

I LOVE your curly hair!

Mandy said...

Happy Monday! I would love for one of those carefree days again! I love your hair curly like that, but I'm certain you look amazing regardless! Awesome too about your little brother!

Have a great day!

Carrie said...

I don't have an iphone either {I thought I was the only one!} Those pics are great! I love your haircut, super cute! Congrats to your brother, that's awesome! I'm sure we'll be hearing more about him! And...I miss those carefree summer days too...and I don't even close a door in our house...I have little modesty since becoming a mom!

Joanna said...

First time to join up for miscellany monday!

We have a future Olympian as well, she will be swimming, diving or something. I mentioned her in my post.

We don't have an iphone either, but those photos turned out great. Usually cell photos are grainy and ones that you don't really share with others.

As for the smell, have you tried vinegar. Of course then you'll be left with the smell of vinegar, but that might be better than the burnt smell.

Chloë said...

wow your siblings are so much younger than you! I have an 11 year old little brother too, as well as a 3 year old little sister. The little sister is adopted though. :] What are the age differences between you and your siblings? There's ten years between me and the little brother, with no one in between.

Heather said...

So I worked with two ladies that loved to eat their popcorn burnt-so everyday at their lunchtimes, the odor would fill up the backroom and eventually makes its way around the entire bank...it was not fun! Especially when I was pregnant...but I have no idea how to rid your house of the smell, sorry!

Oh yeah, and pooping in private is so overrated anyways:-)

Natalie said...

I am cracking up about #4---so so funny! The joys of motherhood : )

Amber said...

LOVE the pictures. I wear my hair curly often - especially in the summer. It's so easy! I'm sure with two small children that's a huge bonus!

Brooke&Tyson said...

haha alpha the beta! I bet Hunter is loving that! Ugh, burning anything in the microwave is so frustrating! I wish I had some tips for you!

hahaha no pooping in private... you make me laugh! i can't even imagine how busy you are... i know you are soaking up every minute though!!

those photos are just BEAUTIFUL!!! I love the one of you and Sage...it's just such a sweet photo. Your hair looks GREAT!! Your hair looks so great curly!!

um how cute is your little bro?! he's a stud!!! congrats on him winning!!!

have such a great week!!!! miss you sweet friend!!!

Addison ALWAYS accompanies me to the bathroom now. She even says, "Bye-bye, P-P! Too bad that even after butting in she still won't use the potty.

My husband is a huge sailor and actually did an Olympic campaign on the Finn several years ago. Yay for your bro! Loving your phone photos!

Liz said...

Lol, keep your great attitude! You'll need it many times in the next few years. Having kids close is great though, my sisters are two years apart and I was six years behind, I was always envious of their closeness :)

Those are great pics Carissa. You are just a cutie patootie! Can't believe a phone took those...wow!!

Carrie said...

Thanks for hosting! I'm so tempted to cut my hair! Mine curls up pretty good when it's short, so that pic makes it even more tempting! ;) Well, more than that - the 5 minute hairstyle makes it VERY tempting!

Alpha the Beta...genius. Now that's what I call a hot potato...Febreeze should get the smell out. I love your sister's comment...to be young and have summer break again. And way to go for your brother, that is so neat.

Melanie said...

Love your hair curly!! It looks great on you! The pics from the iphone were awesome too..the lighting just seemed right! I participated in miscellany monday today for the first time..woohoo! Oh yeah..as for your burnt potato smell..not sure if it will help but to clean my microwave..I put a small dish filled with water and lemon juice and microwave it for 30 seconds or so and let it sit in there for a while (like 10-15 minutes) without opening the door. It steams all the "gunk" off the inside of your oven so its easier to clean AND it makes it smell fresh (which might help the potato smell)! Hope this helps!

I didn't know you had "little" brothers and sisters. Cool! How many kids are in your family? Age spread? We have 18 years between the oldest and the youngest. Are you the oldest?

Great pic of your brother in his sailboat. What a fun sport to do.

Be BLESSED!

Laurel :)

Sammy said...

You are wonder woman. Pooping alone is a thing of the past once the first one pops out. I think adding kid number two gives you a cheering section. Don't you just love it? LOVE IT!?

Those iphone pics are just fabulous! You are so pretty!

I laughed out loud, for real, and HAD to share the no private pooping part with Mikey!! :) haha

Crazy Shenanigans said...

One time I burned popcorn really really bad and the only way to get the smell out was to open up my house for a day. I had all the windows up.

Love everything, as usual, about your miscellany post!!!!! First and foremost: AWESOME HAIR!!! How fun and easy and cute it is!!! Love Alpha the Beta, sounds like a guy name for a fish, lol! Love the 10-year-old perspective of exhaustion and that's as it should be at that age! How cool is the sailin' brother of yours! My hubby and I want to sail up the east coast someday...so just as we get our kids out of the house and on our own, your brother should be at just the right age to man a sailboat for such an adventure for us, right?! LOL! And, oh my, as far as that microwave goes...how many times? how many times? lol...love the post, sweet girl, couldn't wait to get mine done, just had to live life for the day, then blog...ya know (kinda along the lines of public poopin', girl, it doesn't end, and truly, you begin to care less and less, lol!) Love all the iPhone pix, you're such a doll!!!

Shelby Bukhenik said...

how fun to have younger siblings! They must love having an older sister with babies to play with!

I love how she was exhausted from swimming in the sun...please give me those days back haha!

What the babies want the babies get, especially if means they are not screaming, so yup no more pooping in private. Its so weird to think about the days I would have been mortified having another human being in the bathroom with me haha.

Vinegar heated in the microwave should get rid of the smell of the potato.
