miscellany monday.

grab it and link up your random musings!

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

{1} a murderer of fun.
call me a murderer of fun, but when fireworks are going off at 10:45 just yards away from your 1 yr. olds bedroom, keeping him up, they completely lose their appeal.  there's no better way to say happy 4th of july than keeping my son up several hours past bedtime.

{2} potty training?!  no thanks.
my mom watched hunter the other day for a few hours {bless her dear heart}.  she called to tell me that hunter told her he had poopie.  she then proceeded to say, "well, they say that once your kid tells you he has a dirty diaper then you can potty train him." umm, forget it.  not until he's two. i hardly have time to brush my teeth these days.  i certainly don't have time for potty training.

{3} aversion to bovine.
i've never been a milk lover.  i've also never been a milk hater.  which means that i normally drink it only with chocolate or with cereal.  ever since sage was born, milk makes me want to puke.  at first i thought my milk was bad but when i bought a new carton and wanted to puke again i realized that it was all milk in general. hmmm. maybe my body is subliminally trying to tell me that milk would bother sage since i'm nursing.  maybe my body is a genius.

{4} nerves and whole foods.
while my mom watched hunter {that same poopie diaper announcement day}, sage and i went grocery shopping.  but it was unlike our usual grocery trips.  instead of going to publix that is conveniently located just six minutes from our house, i decided to drive thirty-five minutes and go to whole foods.  i had an unsatiable urge to go organic; publix wasn't going to cut it.  the second i went into whole foods and remembered their prices i realized i had lost my mind.  it was too much for this coupon queen.  i started getting really hot and nervous... do i just leave after driving that far without groceries or do i go way over budget and just shop?!  i also think the nerves could be attributed to the fact that i felt like everyone was staring at me thinking "what are you doing here?  you eat preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, and processed food."  i felt like i didn't belong and the rest of the shoppers knew it.  so, to make a mind numbingly long story short... i basically only bought produce and a few select eggless specialties for hunter.

{5} hunter loves tofu.
oh the irony.  since hunter is severely allergic to eggs, i find him egg free stuff... most of which is organic, gluten free, dairy free, etc.  i don't know what is even left to put in the stuff.  anyways, most of the items contain tofu.  and hunter loves it.  daddy isn't thrilled.  he says, "we're not raising our son to be vegetarian.  especially with a name like hunter."

I so hear you on the fireworks!! Last year was awful at our house and the neighborhood kids had to see a side of me they've never seen before :)

Ha! Love the one about Whole Foods. I love to go in there for a select few things but to do my grocery shopping there? No way! I'd be broke by aisle 3. I've been impressed at how much organic food our Publix is starting to carry!

And I so hear you on the potty training. My little girl is almost 2 and I know she's ready because she takes herself to her little potty throughout the day but I'm not ready to add another thing to my mind right now. I'd rather buy diapers for a few more months :)

Happy Monday! Enjoy your week!

Love your Miscellany Monday. Like Diana said.. Potty Training would be the last thing on my mind. I think that is so funny that Hunter like tofu. I've tried to eat it, but I just don't have the stomach for it. If I had to eat tofu.. I would be having the same reaction you are to milk. Have a wonderful week!

You are too funny! I am in the same boat on potty training~ I'm waiting until Halle is ready just to switch into underwear with no accidents. She may be 17, but I don't want any drama! I also have a love affair with Whole Foods' bakery, but the prices make me want to cry! Fortunately there isn't one close to here so I'm not tempted... i do miss Publix, though. That's my favorite! Have a great day!

Heather said...

Yeah, so the fireworks would totally lose the excitement after keeping a baby up! I'm sorry to hear that...they're illegal here in VA (of course unless the city or something puts them on) so we don't have to hear quite as many of them.

My sister is trying to potty train her 2 year old and I definitely say wait:-)

mle said...

good luck with the toilet training thing!
the neighborhood fireworks lasted too long for my taste too!
your randoms were funny : ) happy monday!

Nadine said...

You are so funny! Whole Foods...yeah...if I had a fortune, I could certainly spend it there. I've always been a wanna be foodie ;0) I agree on what you said about the prices though...insane. Certainly not ok for my budget. I used to drive there once a month (ours is about 45 min away) and get things I couldn't find elsewhere...but it just got too expensive :(
I can also understand why potty training isn't on your agenda...I'm sure you have more than enough on your plate at the moment.
I can't wait to see more pics girl! :) Much love!

Seriously, every point in this post made me laugh. I love your sense of humor!

We had the special joy of fireworks that decided to go for an encore at 2 am yesterday morning, which resulted in a screaming, terrified little boy. It was not fun!

Lea said...

Oh, I think you are right, Hunter is probably still a little young for potty training. My 21 month old Grandson is just now in the beginning stages but still a long ways away. :o) We went to sleep with fireworks sounding off too, but at least we didn't have a baby trying to sleep. I guess it's hard to be quiet while celebrating the 4th. :o) Blessings for a wonderful week!

1. I totally agree with you!
2. Good for you! I was potty training my firstborn from right at a year until just after she turned THREE! Every child is different but it's great to wait until you're just as ready to be done with diapers as he is.
3. I've been that way with eggs.
4. yikes!! good for you for not totally blowing your budget.
5. lol

Eeeeek on the fireworks are subdivision let them off almost all night....one house after another LOL....at least we were at the fireworks and in traffic so by the time we got home we lit sparklers and we were so exhausted we slept right through

Whole Foods prices will throw anyone into a panic LOL....glad you got some things without blowing your budget :0)

Have a great day girlie

We had some issues with the fireworks going off all hours of the night here as well - all weekend. Not cool.

Your last random cracks me up. Too funny.

Hope y'all had a great weekend!

anythingbutperfect said...

totally with ya on the potty training thing. I was in the middle of potty training my oldest when my youngest was born. bad idea! we went back to diapers for a few months til I could fully focus on it. takes commitment! :) and I too had an overwhelming desire to buy organic this week too! :) happy monday! hope you had a great weekend! :)

You know I didn't realize I can comment on your miscellany's. DUH!!! Sorry sweets, I always read them and laugh up a storm but never did I know to post. —scroll further down Dorcas next time— lol

Funny about the whole foods thing. I can't afford that stuff either. This year though we did plant our garden. I guess if slugs are on it it's considered organic, right?

Oh and the potty training. Zeke wasn't trained till he was 3 1/2. The rest by 2. The whole point is it's whenever you and him are ready. I wasn't ready with Zeke. I just had a baby, NUh! UH! no thanks :P

~Blessings to you. I prayed for you this morning asking God to give you lots of rest.

I'm participating for the first time today! Thanks for hosting! I'll probably bring the average age of your participants way up! :) ~ I think God has given us amazing bodies and that is probably exactly why you have an aversion to milk right now! ~ I go to our Organic/Health food store occassionally to buy a few things I can't get anywhere else and I do feel a bit out of place! ~ Your #5 is so funny! He probably has no worries since you don't feel too comfortable in the organic food store! :) Have a great week!

amanda said...

a girl after my own heart. i do not like milk either, unless chocolate or in my cereal!! i also think waiting til *at least* two is the perfect time to THINK about training. :) my girls so far have been at least three before i started. ps. love the pics below!!

Love the last one. Sounds like something my husband would say! :)

Laura@Cowboy Boots said...

LOL@not having a veg named hunter! love it!

as for the potty training...i agree...no rushing on things...sit back and enjoy the poopin in a diaper for a few more years!

Kelli @ RTSM said...

The fireworks at night would have made me mad too! My neighbor always wants to cut his grass in the middle of the day when my boys are trying to take a nap....so annoying! I love your Whole Foods story! I would have felt the same way...like everyone there could tell that I never eat organic stuff:)

Sandy a la Mode said...

hi carissa! hope you had a happy 4th and got to eat lots of yummy BBQ, despite the loud fireworks! all day yesterday i just kept hearing fireworks but i did not even step foot outside, so it was like taunting me. at the end of the day, i saw one pretty firework outside the window and i felt satisfied! :) i totally laughed out loud reading each one of your miscellanies!! you know, i do have a recipe for tofu chocolate mousse on my blog, you should make it for your husband and see what he thinks... but don't tell him it was made from tofu at first haha!!

Barbie said...

Ha ha, both of our first posts were about the insanely loud fireworks when our kids were supposed to be sleeping! I could not imagine potty training a child who is not yet two, with a new born. Wisdom to wait. I hear you on the high prices of whole foods. I seriously need to learn to coupon shop. I need help! Happy Monday!

Brooke&Tyson said...

hahahha... yeah, i'm pretty sure fireworks would drive me crazy if i was trying to put my little guy to sleep. your story about whole foods really made me laugh... i've never been much of a fan because of the outrageous prices. also, like you, i feel completely out of place haha. poor hunter, i hope he will out grow his egg allergy!!

i hope yall had a great 4th of july (minus the loud fireworks)!! Thank you so much for always being so sweet... your comments just made me so happy! :) i am so so impressed at your supermom abilities!!! have a great monday! :)

kbreints said...

Gah-- I used to love me some milk. Entire big glasses of it. Now? Milk does not love me. Not so cool.

Eldarwen said...

Carissa, you make me laugh! =D My mom shops at Whole Foods (sometimes), and we eat all organic stuff. Which is quite difficult, considering my dad is sick right now and can't work (he hasn't for the past year). So I totally understand what you mean about the prices being outrageous! When we first started shopping there, we were the "outsiders" as well. lol =D

arsenalfamily said...

The fireworks were SO LOUD, but Gooner slept through them all! I can't believe it. I on the other hand did NOT, so when she woke up as CHEERFUL as all get out I grabbed some much needed coffee! As for organic, I bought so much organic food this week and stayed within our budget. The same budget we've had for months, actually the past year. I was SHOCKED! Anyway, maybe I should do a post on tips? Like The Dirty Dozen? I don't know. I figure you could use that post LATER, like when you don't have such a crazy life. Keep your chin up girl, you're an awesome Mama!

Fabiola said...

I've been debating the whole organic thing myself. Sometimes is cheaper than the normal thing, but sometimes is just so expensive!!!!

aubrey said...

I understand the organic thing. I go a bit out of my way to shop at a grocery store that carries a substantial organic selection and I always feel pleased with myself when we buy healthy groceries. But it is expensive! Soon the farmer's market will open and I will buy local, which in my mind seems pretty much just as good. Too cute about the tofu!

Natalie said...

I get so sad that whole foods is so expensive. We don't even have one buy us but if we did it would be hard to make myself do it because of the prices. Totally agree!

Natalieh said...

You're so funny! :) I think I've felt the way you explained about Whole Foods. Lovely Miscellany, darlin'. Blessings to you and the fam!

Dorrie said...

i love a good funny on a monday...
i try.. but really.. i'm not that funny...LOL
trust me when i tell you.. sometimes when babies say they have poopie on their diaper.. it's only because they have poopie in their diaper... LOL
thanks for letting me participate...:)

Kelly Marie said...

Whole Foods is crazy expensive & I don't think I could shop there! Plus I'm not a huge fan of organic!! Have a good day!! :)

LeAnna said...

Every thing about this post cracked.me.up.
For starters, I think Grammies have this strange Grandchild interpretation system. My Mom is always telling me all of this stuff that Q says when he's over there and sometimes I just have to wonder, you know? Did he really say that and she heard it because of her uber sweet baby translating skills, or...?? That being said, I'm with you on not potty training yet. I'd LOVE to have a potty trained child by the time #2 comes along, but seriously. That's all there is to say. ;)

I can't drink milk when BF'ing, because lactose intolerance seems to be an issue until about 8 months of age or so. Boo. No cheese, no yogurt. Sad day.

Aw, shucks! Hunters can be tofu lovers. Last time I checked you didn't have to big-game hunt for eggs, so he should be alright. Be sure to hand him a big smoked turkey leg when the state fair rolls around (hopefully your state fairs have turkey legs, or else I'll feel silly) and all will be right in the world. :P

Have a great week, Mama!

Lauren said...

...especially with a name like Hunter... hahahahaha that cracks me up for some reason!! I'm not big on milk either. Even before I knew I had a dairy allergy it made me want to puke... maybe BOTH our bodies are geniuses!! :P

AM from White House, Black Shutters said...

Love the new pics in your previous post...

Whole Foods is crazy expensive.. I like eating good, I'd say 90% of what we eat is from scratch/non-processed and I avoid HFCS like the plague, but I get the same feeling when I go in there. I will not step foot in there, I totally get the same feel like I'm being judged. If you have one near you, try Trader Joe's - none of their stuff has any added crap, but the prices are actually cheaper than our grocery store. We're broke, so I'm still a big fan of Aldi though... :D

Have a great week!

jozen said...

ack! i have to train my 2 1/2 year old!! so not looking foward to it.

al said...

I hear ya on the Whole Foods prices. My roommate and I love to eat healthy, but it's pricey and we're poor college students!

Jocelyn said...

I felt the same way about potty training...mine were all 2 1/2 and then they were mostly trained in 3 days. Don't stress over it yet:-) Haha! I had to laugh...we are a corn syrup and preservative kind of a family...I have often thought about organic. Then I see the prices and go right back to my normal store. You can eat fairly healthy...you just have to try harder. Have a great week.

Design Apprentice said...

Hey Carissa, do you ever do trader joes? I'm not sure if you have them by you but they are incredible! I love Trader Joe's. It's usually cheaper than your run of the mill grocery stores because of their packaging, and they offer so many healthy choices that are not found at a Publix Grocery Store.

Tarryn said...

Whole Foods can give anyone anxiety when you see those prices! But I think you are way ahead of some people who shop there as you know what gluten is! Egg free must be hard for your little guy! I'm gluten free and avoid Whole Foods- too pricey!

You are so funny! I never shop at Whole Foods either, but will randomly go on a "healthy" binge every once in awhile...

Hattie said...

I am the same way about milk...only w/ chocolate or in cereal! Take it from me, mom of 4 boys, don't even bother potty training little boys until way after 2!

Shelby Bukhenik said...

Completely agree with the non potty training! Emma has been telling us for awhile and I refuse to start until she is two.

So does this mean no breast feeding for little Miss Sage?!?!?

Melanie said...

Love your miscellany for the day! That was so funny about going to Whole Foods and feeling like people knew you didn't belong there..I've been in certain stores before and felt the same way! Almost makes you feel like you've got a sign on your back or something! LOL!

Charissa Steyn said...

I love how you got nervous in whole foods!! :) Made me laugh! I think I would have the same reaction!

Sarah said...

Beware the diaper avoidance. My friend ignored her sons interest in early potty training and after a few months of her avoiding his interest in his diapers and the potty he stopped. He then refused to be potty trained and was only trained weeks before he started kindergarten where he still pooped his pants for the first few months. Be warned!

Debbie said...

lol - I love your miscellany's. I think your sleep deprived delirium is making them more humorous ;) Potty training Emma is STILL the last thing on my mind. She ain't going to college with a diaper on, I'm pretty sure of that.

I've done the Whole Foods thing - word for word - as you described. Fortunately it's a shorter drive for us, so I walked in, and walked right back out. I'm thinking about joining in on a buyer's club, though, because I'm still pressed on buying mostly organic for fruits and veggies at least.

Keep taking care of those beautiful babies and keep your sense of humor. It doesn't make it easier, but it does make it alot more fun :)

Kelli said...

First, look at all of your participants. I'm going to participate next week. Um, fireworks that late at night is not a good thing...not cool at all. Your body might just be a genius! I wish Caleb would tell me he has to poop...I'm praying for potty training, but it is a lot of work. I LOVE Whole Foods...my wallet does not. Their fruit and meat is amazing.

partialemptynester said...

Crack me up!!!!! I LOVE all your comments, so random, so fun, so dadgum REAL!!!!!!!!

Katie said...

Very random Monday indeed! I think it's funny that your hubs said Hunter can't like tofu with his name! haha I could see my husband saying something similar... maybe it's a manly thing?? ha! It's nice your momma was able to come over and help. I am sure you loved being able to get out of the house, even if it was to overpriced whole foods. Do you ever feel out of place when you are the only one not bringing your own grocery bags???

CHAR said...

Yay for Hunter liking tofu. It's good stuff :) Have you tried that dessert stuff? (Haha to the irony of Hunter liking tofu... it's cute though!)

Annie said...

Carissa! I cant believe its been so long since I visited your blog! I didnt even know sweet Sage had arrived! Congratulations! I looked back at all the previous posts and love all the pics! What a sweet and beautiful blessing she is! Hope you are getting some rest, girl... a 17 month old and a newborn HAS to keep you BUSY! :)

cait said...

As usual...love your randoms! What about getting your mom to potty train Hunter since she mentioned it? ha! Or maybe he'll potty train himself with lots of prayer? ;) My in-laws tell me that my hubby locked himself in a hotel bathroom and they couldn't get him out for a little bit on a family vacation...during the wait time he used the potty for the first time. Hoping my kiddos may follow in his footsteps and it will be handed to me like that. :)

About whole foods--I get intimidated just being in there. Crazy prices and so many products I don't recognize. I have a $25 gift card and still stay away...my goal it to drive the extra 30 minutes sometime this summer. Our Kroger has really impressed me lately with its budget-friendly organic selections.

It is so amazing how God has created us and our bodies are able to communicate with us. Just the act of breastfeeding is so amazing in itself!

The tofu comment made me laugh...just like a guy to make that statement!

Hope you and your family are doing well!
