my miscellany monday. you can have one too.

grab it and link up your random musings!

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

1.  i like president reagan, but...
i'm not sure i like this:

courtesy of target.

yes, that's a zipper on that bathing suit.  and can be found at your local target.  hello 80's.  i was born in the 80's.  maybe i'm too old to appreciate them coming back?!  i remember wearing bell bottoms several years ago and my mom telling me that she used to wear them and she couldn't believe that they were actually coming back.  well i had a neon, zippered, minnie mouse one-piece when i was five.  i can't believe it's actually coming back (minus the minnie part).  i must be turning into my mom.  (don't worry mom, it's not half bad.)

2. green goodness.
and i'm not talking about being eco-friendly.  although that's good too.

it looks like sewer but it tastes like super.  yes, my friends, i'm living proof that peach, strawberry, wheat and barley grass, sprouts, and artichoke can taste pretty darn good when mixed together.

3. target should thank me.
in case you aren't sold on the 80's suit, here's another reason to visit target... like i said on friday, i need to lose weight and unless i'm going to get a whole new wardrobe, i need to lose it fast.  but, until then, i needed one "go to" item (i.e. bottoms that can be buttoned) to wear.  i finally found my "go to" - a $19.99 skirt from target... a.k.a. God's gift to a postpartum mom.  it's stretchy everywhere which is comforting because instead of being tight and uncomfortable (like everything else i own) it's completely comfy.  it's not too long but not too short.  it sits probably 2 inches above the knee.  it comes in different colors too.  here it is:

excuse it for looking so short.  it really isn't.  and target doesn't have it online; this is the best shot i have for you.

4. obama, a candy buffet and superbowl sunday...
were the most recent subjects of my dreams.  not my choice.  i blame it on the following: i recently read farmgirl paints post about famous people (hence obama) and many of those famous people happened to be football players (hence superbowl sunday), i watch fox news relentlessly (hence obama again), and i also recently read the busy budgeting mama's post about candy buffets, plus i'm on a diet (which means i think about everything i shouldn't be eating).  the dream = me at a superbowl party with lots of desserts and the president.  i woke up this morning thinking i had leftover desserts from the candy buffet.  what a dirty little trick.

5. colds + staycation = major bummer.
we all ended up sick last week during our staycation.  but, i figure if we're going to be sick, i might as well have daddy home to help me take care of sick kids.  we still managed to go the beach.  no faucet like noses were going to hold us back...

sage in the shade.

me and my lil' stud.  he's wearing daddy's hat.

hunter chasing birds.

Love the pics of your gorgeous kids! Sage is so cute and little - that picture of her at the beach was almost enough to make me think about having one more ... but I must admit my second thought after "awwww so cute, I want another baby" was "thank goodness I don't still have to deal with nappies" LOL

Diana Mieczan said...

Awww you look beautiful...What are you talking about losing 20lbs?....No way...you look great, sweetie!!!
Those photos of your angels are amazing....Sage is growing so fast and Hunter is such a handsome little guy!
I remember those swimming suits too....I am not sure about them...hahahah:)
Im glad you likes the green tea idea:)

Kisses, darling and have a great Monday and the rest of the week:)

See you soon:)

I enjoy reading your blog. Your little ones are SO cute! My "babies" are all getting so big now. I had such fun (and was so tired) when they were still small like yours.

Heather said...

So the one piece, I have it. Totally kidding! That thing is crazy:-)

That drink looks and sounds so gross, are you sure it's good?? Or are you just telling us and yourself that because you are dieting? Which I should be doing too. That 20 pounds-I still need to lose it and Christian is almost 11 months! Boo.

Your pictures are great-you are gorgeous and I think you look fabulous the way you are. I love the pictures of yall in the water! Have a great Monday!!

Kristin said...

You're so right about that suit. I happen to think that NOTHING about the fashions of the 80s is worth bringing back...save us from the madness!!! That said, watch me buy a neon pink wrinkly crop top next spring. :-P Glad you still got to enjoy your staycation a little. Sorry to hear you were sick during it though.- I love how dreams have random bits of current events and make perfect sense when we're dreaming them! Happy Monday to you! We're having A Week of Confessions this week over at Windy Poplars, so I guess I can't participate in MM this week (unless my random food confessions count). Come join us in the fun!

haha! I so remember having a neon green, zipper bathing suit! that is so funny! Not sure I would go for that again though! ;)

Bummer on being sick, but so glad you still got to go the beach with all your cuties!

Take care...have a great week!

LivingSoAbundantly said...

Target is one of my favorite stores. =) I agree with you, though, that they could skip out on the suits.

Aly @ Analyze This said...

Great photos!! Hunter looks like he is having the time of his life!! :)

Mandy said...

Good morning! I am also thankful for target~ before our missions trip I stocked up on tees and tanks! I'm also on the fence, though, about the 80s gear. I went shopping with some of our youth girls last week and just kept thinking how old I am that things from my childhood have actually come back around... sigh. Glad y'all made it to the beach despite the sickness- sometimes you just have to get out! Have a great day!

He & Me + 3 said...

First time here & linking up.

You have a great blog.

Oh the neon and the zippers... someone help me. The fashion is one thing I don't care to relive about the 80's. LOL

Your family is just beautiful.
Target is my home away from home. I love it there.
Hope everyone is feeling better now.

Kelli @ RTSM said...

That bathing suit is too funny! I think I had something like that when I was a kid too:) Your green goodness does look a little like sewer...is it part of a cleanse or just something you whipped up?!?

Rachel said...

Love this post, Carissa!

I remember swimming suits like that. (And I was born 1975 --- ackk --- besides posting a ridiculous picture on my blog I have now posted my age. Sigh.) I remember the zipper. I had a zipper swimsuit. When I was like eleven. And it had hot pink on it.

Your family pictures are wonderful. And, you look great. Honestly.

As far as Target -- I believe that place is my KRYPTONITE. I walk in with the intent to buy a $2.49 cleaning sponge and walk out with $189.45 of products. Sigh. Again.

Hope you are all feeling better. Have a great Monday, my friend!!!

Courtney said...

Well, I was born in 74 so I remember the 80's well and admit to owning and wearing that same bathing suit very proudly. ACK!

The pics of the kids are gorgeous and I'm so jealous you live so close to the beach. One day... Hope you guys are feeling better. I think you look great, girl! No rush on the weight. Seems to be coming off nicely.

Heidi said...

First of all, I just have to tell you that you look FABULOUS for just having a baby! So, stop worrying about your weight. I'd kill to be your size (well, maybe not KILL, but you get the idea). I was a teen in the 80's and I think that swimsuit is hideous! LOL Your beach day looks like fun - glad you got at least one day out. :)

Candace said...

I am not quite sure why you are fretting over your weight - you look great! I can understand not being the same size you once were - I feel the same OFTEN. However, you look stunning. These pictures are wonderful too!

OH! The comfy skirts... I remember those. Actually, I still wear one. It's still in style and I can run after the kids with it freely.

You have a fabulous week and hope everyone is feeling better.

Oh, no with the bathing suit. Some things should just remain in the past. Sage is dreaming "ahh, this is the life." And I may have to take your word for it regarding #2.

Lauren said...

Cute pictures! I love just walking around Target to see what I can find to wear. I think I'll do that one night this week now. :-) Cute skirt! Hope you're all feeling better.

What great pictures of you at the beach!

Those bathing suits aren't the only ones making a comeback... so are the ones that are a one piece with the sides cut out... Holy weird tan lines!!!

Those babies look AAAAdorable!!

I will have to go to Target to scope out these skirts, we are going to California in a week and a half and I'd like to wear something other than the one skirt and pair of pants I have held together with a hair elastic haha!

Barbie said...

I so remember those zippered swim suits. I am the old one here, born in 1966, but I remember seeing them when I was swim suit shopping for my honeymoon in 1988. Hmm, I think I will pass on the drink. Did I tell you how beautiful you are? You are beautiful inside and out. Love the picture of you and Sage, and those pictures of your kiddos at the beach, priceless! Happy Monday!

Anna said...

I have a couple of those Target skirts! I love them and they carried me from super-skinny nauseated pregnant woman to postpartum mommy. :)

I would like to start by saying - I think you look great! I am hoping to loose a little weight so I can look as good as you! ;) I love the pictures! Gorgeous babies! What exactly is a staycation and where did you go?

Loren said...

Carissa ~ You are so adorable. I'm not just saying that to make you feel better although I hope you do ;) I can remember those tough emotions and blues after my first was born. Now 17 years later i am battling my weight partly bc of being on meds that cause weight gain (prednisone) and the frustrating thing is that is what a misdiagnosis! argh!

Praying you can feel better and know it takes time but be patient with yourself and your emotions ok! You are precious in the eyes of the Lord, in the eyes of your husband and in the eyes of your sweet babies! and in the eyes of your blogging friends well, at least this one, you look amazing!

Lifting you to the Lord today!

You look fantastic! I haven't thought about zipper bathing suits in forever. It is so amazing how everything comes back around--whether we want it to, or not!

that bathing suit is funky! so is that green drink stuff...but i'll take your word for it. ;) your babes, as always -- are ADORABLE!

k, so here's my all-time #1 fashion advice...all trends cycle around: if a particular trend cycles around a second time in your lifetime, YOU ARE TOO OLD TO PARTICIPATE...hence, my refusal to wear leggings, been there, done that, LOL!! Course, if you were five, you're exempt! I LOVED the 80's, I was a teenager and lived the life...however, I think the 80's need to stay where they belonged, lol! LOVE your MM!!! Your kids are absolutely aDoRaBlE and your little Target mini is too cute (stay away from the zippered swimsuit, hahaha!)

partialemptynester said...

Oh...and I hope you are all feeling better this week :)

Kelley said...

love the skirt, going to buy one now! thanks for the tip on where to find some postpartum clothes cause lord knows I should stop wearing my hubby's shorts around all day every day ;) Sage is just adorable lounging on the beach! and Hunter's in the hat is so cute. lovely beach family day!

i am so, so sorry that you think that you NEED to lose 20 pounds. maybe this is how your body needs to be right now because it is where it is functioning at its best so that you can be an awesome mom and the obviously funny and fun person that you are. weight and diets will never make you you, they will keep you from being you. thanks for letting me comment.

Hi Carissa :-)
I was wondering if you might be able to tell me how you got a solid white background for your blog. A friend of mine is asking for my help but I have no idea what to do. So if it's not too much trouble...

Would you mind telling me how you got yours?

Thanks!

Thanks for hosting Miscellany Monday! I enjoyed meeting some new people and seeing other blogs. Your blog is super. The kids are so precious. I think you look great, but I know how it feels just after having a baby. You've spent 9 months when your body is not your own, then you get it back and it's not the same. But what a worthy cause!!! When my first son was 8 days old (if I remember right) we invaded Iraq. I had dreams about being interrogated by Sadaam Houssain while nursing my baby (and someone nursing my baby was related to some spy mission). I think it's something about the waking up every 2-4 hours that makes for some strange dreams.

Tawny said...

THose beach pics are just perfect!

Really, that is a suit in stores now at Target? The thing I hate about that store is that you THINK you're not going to spend a fortune but you just can't help it, there is ALWAYS something you need at Target!!!

Ah, I think I bought the same skirt. Looked for a pic too online and couldn't find it. Stretch on the sides, but flat on front and back? With pockets? it actually looks darling with a shirt tucked in sitting higher on the waist, hiding my still existing baby pooch, 17 months later.

I didn't see the dark denim, or maybe I did. I got the light blue/denim/chambray one. Wish they had black. I want the white one too.

Rule of thumb after having babies-- lots of elastic stretchy skirts! Love them!

marilyn said...

The kids are so cute. It was fun to see more pictures. I love Hunter's expression when he was chasing the birds. Hope that you are over your colds and all of you are feeling better.

Hey friend, yes I agree that the bathing suit has got to go. I oonly shop for clothes at Target! I have gained 5-10 pounds in the last year and I don't have the excuse of having a baby like you:) I have had to get a whole new wardrobe and one piece at a time from Target is totally affordable:) You look gorgeous as always!

Hi! I really enjoy your blog.

I know a lot of bloggers like to write stories. Well, I'm hosting a story contest on my Christian Girl's Magazine blog [daughterofchristmagazine.blogspot.com] where all the entries {if appropriate} will be published in the Magazine. I've only gotten 1 entry so far so I was wondering if you would post about my contest, and with all your followers I'm sure I'll get some more entries.

I don't know if many of your followers would like to enter... but I just thought I'd ask.

thanks a ton,
Megan
