1. the mayhem part. as if feeding an infant 5-6 times/day, pumping milk 7-8 times/day (long story), feeding a finicky toddler 3 times/day, and maybe feeding myself if i'm extra lucky, i now get to give hunter medicine twice/day, sage gets two medications - one four times/day and another twice/day, not to mention tylenol every four hours for their persistent fevers. oh yeah, and their medicine gives them diarrhea which no diaper can contain. ever wanted to know how to spell mayhem?! i feel so bad for them and their germs! poor babies! i'm so thankful for medicine.
2. sage baby. at 3 1/2 mos, sage is 14 lbs, 9 oz. now that we have a second baby that is consistently in the 90th + percentile, it's safe to say that we make ginormous babies. sage absolutely loves the bumbo seat and is beginning to enjoy the exersaucer. she is rolling over and is slowly (think snail pace) becoming less fussy. which reminds me, i'm becoming less of a fan of parenting formulas (think things like babywise and such... although, i'm not wanting to get into a debate : ) ). i've done the same routine and schedule with sage as i did with hunter. hunter was a perfectly content, quiet baby who took great naps and slept through the night quickly and easily. so, i figured, if i did the same things with sage, i'd get the same results. not so. every baby is different. and instead of being down on myself, i am learning to go with the flow and make adjustments. we love our baby girl to pieces and her smiles make our heart do the happy dance!
3. never pay full retail. it's my motto. coupons, garage sales, consignment stores, clearance racks have my name written all over them. bargain hunting is a thrill, not for the faint at heart. i think buying three boxes of raisin bran for 99 cents last week reinvigorated my affections for coupons. i don't love raisin bran, but at 33 cents/box i'll eat it happily.
4. speaking of cheap... i scored big this weekend at a garage sale. i bought a combi double umbrella stroller for $25. it retails for $300. i was ecstatic, especially since both seats recline. if you're a mama, you know what a big deal that is! i highly recommend this one. plus, it folds up really easily and small (for a double stroller).
5. wisdom from buffet. i don't promote warren buffet's political views, but i completely appreciate his views on money. "born in omaha in 1930, warren buffet is on again, off again the world's richest man. and arguably the greatest investor in american history. in 1958, at the age of 27, he bought a grey stucco house in omaha for $31,500 and lives in it to this day. the oracle of omaha is notoriously frugal. he eats at dairy queen, loves burgers and cherry coke... plays the ukulele, drives 1.5 miles daily to his modest office, sits at the same desk that belonged to his father... he shuns high society and instead makes popcorn at home, watches some television and plays bridge. his advice is to live life as simple as you are, just wear those things in which you feel comfortable and don't waste money on unnecessary items." (- richard a. swenson, in search of balance.) wow... especially coming from a billionaire. i think we all can learn from this.

OMG...you really scored big with that stroller...Well done!!!
Ohhh sorry that both cuties are having cold...I hope that they will feel better soon and that you will have a wonderful week ahead:)
Sage is beautiful:)
Kisses,darling
Loved your post today! #1 brought me back to my girls were babies. It can get completely crazy!! Enjoy it now.. They grow so fast! I just recently started clipping coupons. I love it! I challenge myself how much I can save at one grocery trip. My girls hate it and are so embarrassed! But I think it's fun! And lastly my husband loves Buffetts simplicity and he always tells me Buffett drives his old 2001 Town Car and the license says "Thrifty.". Have a great week!! Hope the babies get better soon!

I could have written your same post when Noelle was a baby! Noah and Noelle were sooo different and we did things relatively the same. I'm convinced it's a second child thing! Or a girl thing, maybe! I really hope everyone is feeling better quickly. We're doing antibiotics for our two right now...they went and got strep while Mommy was in the hospital - nice, huh? Just one more thing I wasn't able to help out with!
I totally get your Raisan Bran high, ha! I love me a good deal :) You scored big on that double stroller, yay! I do regret not getting a double job stroller but it would be a total waste now considering Noelle is already 2. I'm a little green with envy that you have that super cool jog stroller AND an awesome umbrella one too - lucky girl!!
I love Warren Buffet's thriftiness - so many could learn a lot from him (in this arena!).
I hope you have a blessed week enjoying your babies and that they're both on the mend. Take care of yourself too!
I am so with you on the cheap, frugal, good finds, whateva. It really is a (fun) challenge. I hope Sagey-baby continues to become less fussy, they surely are all different. We're still struggling a bit with Jacob's "fussiness." Emma was content at 6 months. I hope things begin to settle down for you; your #1 miscellany is insanity.
I can totally relate with the poop that no diaper can contain. One of my boys had roto virus a few years ago and it was HORRIBLE!! I hope they start feeling better soon! And man that is a great deal on that stroller! I had one similar to that when my two oldest were little, and I LOVE that both seats recline...makes naptime on the go so much easier!
Oh, Kudos to you on your "finds." Gotta love those garage sales, especially when you can find something like that stroller. What a deal!
Both my daughter and daughter in law lived by Baby Wise, but perhaps it had more to do with their babies temperments than the book. :o)
Can't believe Sage is so big, seems she was just born yesterday.
Blessings to you for a wonderful week and hope it will bring restored health to the babies.
I love Warren Buffett! I mean, not everything he believes, but yes, his view of money (and of life) is very similar to ours. I recently watched an interview with him and his son, and his son said he didn't even realize his dad was a gajillionaire till he was in college. I hope that our kids never have a grasp as to how rich/poor we are... just that we are happy, loved and saved by the grace of Jesus!
I read an article about Buffet's adopted grandaughter - she was disowned for doing an interview and saying that money was all he was about. Either way, she said in the interview that she had to scrape by on her 40K per year income, the way the article was written was like "feel sorry for her, she had her education paid for, and anything she could have ever wanted now she ONLY makes 40K per year"
Congrats on your finds! I love a good deal!
That is the exact stroller we have had since Halle was born, and we love it~ major score!!! I agree too, about parenting formulas. Remy has always been easy, and then came my sweet, sweet girl who has never known an easy moment~ from reflux, to sleeping, to tantrums. I gave up trying to follow someone else's plan and just had to start making my own! I will definitely pray that your sweet ones heal and get better... it's no fun for them or for momma!
I used to live near omaha and would eat ice cream at the DQ Buffet owned. I also got to hear him speak to a group of high school economic students one time. He is frugal. Still drives a buick regal and does not live in the new fancy developments in Omaha. Pretty crazy story!
I hear you on the sleeping thing and I'm jealous of your awesome stroller deal! I hope you get some rest and a break from stinky diapers!
Sage is such a sweet baby girl! All of the mayhem and craziness is all worth it when you see that smiling little face. And what a great deal on that Combi stroller. I have the single one, but would love the double. Instead of I double stroller I bought the sit-n-stand. It is good, but it doesn't recline. I am sure you are going to love it, especially for $25!!
Sorry that they're not feeling well. It sounds like you are finding your way -- your parenting path for your children. It's one that can't be taught, but has to be learned!
You SCORED with that stroller!!! Way to go. Those kinds of deals are so fun. I love to think of them as little gifts from God.
Love the quote and analogy as well.
Have a blessed Monday!
First, my little girl wants to just sit and stare at Sage's picture. "Baby!" she says. I can hardly scroll down to read the rest of the post & comment without her freaking out about Sage leaving the page. I agree - parenting formulas may work for some but not for all. We read all the books trying to get Keegan to sleep through the night. Tried everything. He's almost 5 and he's still a horrible sleeper. Presley, we did basically the same and she is an angel. She's a wonderful sleeper. Different strokes for different folks. Sounds like you scored some great deals. Hope your babies feel better soon. Bless their hearts! And yours!
I could never get myself into the discipline of coupons and sales, but all things work together for us anyway...still frugal though.
Your little one is so precious and yes, they are ALL so different ;)
By the way -- I love the new linky. It was very easy. :)
Whew, reading your daily schedule reminds me a little of my life at this time last year! It DOES start to slow down, I promise.
And I'm jealous of your stroller! We desperately need a double jogger, but by the time we get one our THIRD baby will be home, so maybe I should just skip it?
She is so cute. Gotta love a baby with some fat to love on. I say the chubbier the better.
I'm with ya. I hate paying full price...bring on the coupons and thrift stores. It's the challenge that makes it fun. Have a great week Carissa:)
Oh, I really hope the babies feel better very soon. I do know about the diarrhea that comes with meds and you're right that no diaper can hold it. I totally agree that different things work for different babies, no two are alike. You got a great deal on that stroller...enjoy!!!!
Great post Carissa...I'm sorry your cute babies are sick right now. I'm so glad you have embraced the freedom to go with the flow...although I don't yet have babies, I have enough friends with babies to know better than to get into the 'baby wise' conversation! :) I love your stroller find and the Buffet quote! Have a great day!
I hope your kiddies feel better soon, gosh that is so hard. I too love saving money and garage sales and consignment shoppes. I love them!! It actually gives me a 'rush' to get a good deal...ha! I should prob. attend a meeting of some sort...heehee!
Have a great week.
wow, being a mommy is tough! i can't believe you have to pump that many times in a day, crazy!! and that's awesome you scored such a cheap stroller!!! i LOVE yard sales!!
I have to hear the pumping story. I stopped nursing at about three weeks but pumped and gave Toby nothing but Breast Milk till he was almost ten months old. Do tell...
Feel you on the blowouts! LB has been on medicine that causes the same thing. I am surprised you find time to eat or sleep doing all that!
Aww, poor sick kiddies. And poor Mama! It's so hard when they're sick. :( Love the stroller! I'm still looking at double strollers, and can't decide!!
You found yourself some awesome deals! Woo!Hoo! I sure hope and pray your little ones get better. I also pray that you get strength too. Because it's very difficult to function with little ones sick.
You have a great week.

Dorcas
Wow you are one even busier momma than usual and I have to agree antibiotic diapies are the worst....eeeeeeeeeeeeek.....I hope they get better quick quick!! Glad the kiddos are on meds to put them on the mend :0)
You really scored on that stroller chicka that is an awesome find! Sage looks so presh in her bumbo seat and I just love bigger babies Kelcee was always in the 90th Percentile also we always called her our chunky monkey....love it....
Wow we could all learn something from that billionaire huh
have a great day and thanks so much for your sweet note and prayers
love ya
Summer
Oh, I'm so sorry thing things are CRAZY with two little ones! You are awesome! She's getting so big and I'm glad that she's at least making progress with the colic!
Girl- thanks for being real!!! Love you!
isn't it funny how you can feel like a feeding machine/poop cleaner?! It can really get to you somedays but I have found it to help me become more selfless..
I never pay full price for anything either. I can't believe you found a double stroller for 25$!! wow.
:D Cheers!
way to score on that stroller! :)
i can't believe your schedule! hopefully mine won't be that crazy with just one, but i'll have to wait and see! haha
LOVE your randomness today...and as formulas go? Girl, stick with random...each child is different, what works on one, will inevitably NOT work on the next...it's baffled parents since the beginning of time, think Jacob and Esau, seriously? Moving right along...coupons, baby, the only way to go...and that garage sale find? I'd have done a mommy cheer right there in front of God and Mankind for a steal like that one, good job! I'm with ya on Buffet, not big on all his views, but the guy's got the simple living plan down! Saving the best for last...Sage, oh, Sage, what a dollbaby you are! Gotta love a big baby you can just gush the love on!!!!
Sage is one of THE cutest babies I've ever seen :)
I too love bargains! Sometimes it's the thrill of the hunt that keeps me going. What a great deal you got on that stroller! Yay!
I am so sorry both kids have been sick. That's a lot of medications to have to administer. I'd be afraid I'd forget. Hope it all ends soon. I love using coupons and shopping thrifty, but I am afraid I am not very good at it, and I find you need a lot of patience for that sort of thing. I hope to get better on learning how to save $$. Fantastic about that double stroller! Happy Monday!
your poor babies! i hope they start feeling better soon. i'm sure that will make a lot less mayhem in your home : ) i can't believe sage is already 3 1/2 months old! time flies!
oh my, I hope Hunter and Sage get better really soon! for their sake AND yours.. :-(
I have too have opinions about Babywise.. and I understand not wanting to spark debate just for the sake of debate! .. How can a 21 year~old not-yet-mommy have strong opinions about Babywise? Well.. I just do. But they may change. : )
P.S. Sage's romper is precious!! Love the fabric patterns!
hey sweetie,
so sorry the babes have been sick. that is especially
hard on you, but it helps them form those great
immunities!
i heartily agree that EACH baby is so different, and i
had five to prove the difference. you're so wise to
go with your gut and throw out the book!
my father in law is a sort of 'warren buffet' figure
and espouses many of the same lifestyle frugalities.
smart girl!
i have been traveling a LOT and have missed your
sweet blog.
blessings,
lea
Our boy was also a very easy baby-- and we did babywise. So, I figured our Lovey would be just as easy and perfect. Wrong. So wrong. We tried babywise, but it just wasn't right for her. When she was 13 months she FINALLY stopped the whining and crying 24/7. However, I wouldn't change any part of her. She is perfect, even when she is whining :) So, you are not alone!
such a great post!! i am praying for your sweet sweet babies to get better!! i know tyson and i will also make jumbo babies... haha! you are such a bargain shopper... i need some lessons!! tyson LOVES warren buffet too... he's a big fan!! hope you have a great week sweet friend of mine!!!
Wow! awesome deal on that stroller!! I heart clearance racks- I spent 20 dollars at Target yesterday and got a hoodie, three nice shirts, and a cotton dress! Love it!!
And Sage is just too stinkin cute... seriously, love me some chubby babies! Our twins were in the 90th percentile too until they reached about 3 years old... and Reese I am sure is off the charts by now ;)
I try to never pay full price either!
1. Carissa you are supermom and one day you will be like I can NOT believe I did all of that in one day!
2. I have two babes and have come to that same realization. Both are different and the good baby came first for me too haha! The love is the same though!
3. I LOVE coupons and bargain hunting as well, just not as easy these days as I am sure you agree.
4. I am SO jealous of the garage sale steal!
5. I think that is quite amazing about Warren Buffet, don't know if I would do that same thing with all that money!
Aw...poor little babies ;( It's so hard when you have sick little one, but two! And I agree with parenting your children differently...they are different and what works for one, doesn't always work for the other, including punishments :)
Awesome deals! I like a good bargain too...but I'm guilty of buying retail sometimes only because it's just more convenient at the time...gulp! But I love the buffet lifestyle...what great advice! ;) Take care!
I read the Wisdom from Buffet to my husband, we really like that! It's just what we want to do!
Yay for frugality! There's nothing quite like the liberating feel of purchasing a car with cash or finding a great deal on something that would cost 5x as much brand new. (especially when it involves kids' clothing that they outgrow and/or stain in about 24 hrs!)
Stick with it - caring for sick kids is hard work but you're a great mommy and you'll be rewarded some day for your unselfish spirit! Gal. 6:9
I figured out the same thing with my kiddos fast! Autumn was a piece of cake. Aubrey, not so much. BUT I am just going with the flow too and I am sure she will make for one silly and fun little girl!
LOVE me a good deal. I always search for coupons and check other retailers before I buy just about anything. You have to save, save, save and save some more! That stroller deal is awesome!!!
Oh how I feel for you!!! My twins just got over strep. NO FUN. And I can so relate to feeling fed up with babywise :) ha! It did work for my twins but it is NOT WORKING for Legend. He thinks he will just DIE if mommy doesn't feed him all night. LOL. Remember, we are praying buddies at 4 in the morning :)
We have that same stroller and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! (Except when the boys are playing "let's steal each other's passy" game;-)
