miscellany on monday + giveaway winner.

grab it, write random, and link up below!

by the way, thank you for all of your miscellany each week!

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

1. winner. congratulations to my sweet friend hilary (you should visit her blog and read about what she did while full term pregnant - so cute!)...  she is the winner of the pretty paperie giveaway.  hilary's baby girl is due in just a few short weeks so i know she will have fun choosing her prize!  thank you natalie for sharing your pretties!

the proof is in the pudding... or the pictures:

2.  chip off the old block.  besides being a worship leader, being a zoologist would be a dream job for my husband.  that being said, when we visited the zoo this weekend in honor of husband's birthday, it was no surprise that our son went crazy over every single animal.  i mean crazy.  he laughed like a neighing horse and begged for more in utter excitement the whole time.  kelly couldn't have been more proud of his boy.  and it's a good thing that i found hunter a giraffe costume for our fall festival... he adored the giraffes and has been begging for them ever since.

even sage had a fun time!  she was all smiles!

said giraffe costume:
not a great view of it, but you get the picture.

3.  i get nervous.  i don't know if this is just a woman thing, or just a weird carissa thing.  i divulged my annoying nerve problem to my bff and she said she's the same way.  so maybe i'm not the only one.  or maybe we're both weird and that's why we're bff's. anyway, anytime i'm going somewhere where there's a crowd i get nervous.  like a party, a baby/wedding shower, busy stores, etc.  i sweat and the 90 degree heat doesn't help conceal it too well.  then, after i'm done at wherever i wonder why i was nervous.  i also hate silence.  i'm known to say anything just so there's not silence.  it can be good and bad.

4.  less is more.  the good thing about being married to a pastor is knowing that we'll never have to worry about being overcome by wealth.  ; )  i think about how little kelly and i were raised on and we turned out at least half way decent.  the truth is, i think kids who have little turn out better than kids who have everything they want.  i know society says the opposite but i'm convinced otherwise.  hunter and sage will look back and come to this conclusion one day too.  although, it might be tough explaining this to them when he wants a nintendo wii or she wants the best or the biggest dollhouse.

Giraffes are our family favorite! That pic of Kelly and Hunter is so, so, so precious! Ahhh, the less is more debate...I struggle with that one so much myself! I grew up very priveleged when it came to "things" (and love, too!) but my hubby came from the opposite end of the spectrum. We try to find an equal balance but the kids definitely have way more than they need. I just try to balance it with charity. Noah has been able to recite Luke 12:48 since he was two :) Everyone in our family knows and lives by that verse! As long as they're spoiled with quality time and attention, you can't go wrong in my book :) Hope you and yours have a very, blessed week!

That zoo looks so fun! I love his costume...I just saw one like it recently and considered it for Christian, but I think we might do this duck this year:-)

I'm sure your kids will look back and remember all the fun times they had with such great parents, not the stuff! :-)

You are so NOT alone on the sweating thing. If I am nervous, I will sweat in the winter, air conditioning, you name it. I hate it about myself but I don't think it's ever gonna change, unfortunately! Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone. ;)

Hunter is SO PRECIOUS! I love his little giraffe suit--too cute!

"The good thing about being married to a pastor is knowing that we'll never have to be overcome by wealth." I loved that. Good for you for looking on the bright side of things! :)

Very nice randomness... I'm a WP wife too, so I know what you mean ;) I totally identify with the crowds thing, especially since I've become a mom!

Candace said...

I love that you guys went to the zoo this weekend - we did too! Your pictures are much more amazing than mine though - go figure!

Rachel said...

I love the giraffe pictures!!!! Especially the last one with your sweet Hunter. Your family pictures are lovely -- truly -- you can see the love and commitment in each pic.

You know, less is more. I just took over half the toys out of my older boys room and they are so much happier. I know I am as well -- when it comes to cleaning it. ;)

I think we live in such an age of entitlement. We need to set boundaries for our kids, we need to say no, and we went to embrace the ideas that they don't need everything. They may want it, but they don't need it. Goodness -- I need that lesson for myself.

And, by the way, I wrote my miscellany last night -- proud, aren't you?

I hope you have the most blessed week. Really, I do. I pray that you feel the Father's great love for you as you go about being an awesome mother.

Honored and blessed to call you friend.

Rachel

I feel the same way in large groups! I am a little socially awkward I suppose. I just get so darn nervous and I'm totally with you on the sweating thing which definitely doesn't help me to feel comfortable! Those pics are great, love the little giraffe costume, so cute!

Rachel said...

and in that previous comment it should say "want to embrace" versus went. That's what I get for typing in the dark and not proofing my work. hee hee hee

Great random thoughts this week, Carissa! I need to take the time to post mine!

cute pictures!!!
I think #3 is a lot more common than people let on!! At least for women. My bff and I have talked about that too and both of us were shocked when the other said it becuase on the outside we seem so friendly. But I feel the same way--super anxious and nervous and then when it's over i'm like 'oh that was fun!' guess it's just a girl thing??

Wendy said...

Hi Carissa! I read my friend Heidi's Miscellany Monday post over at Reviews & Reflections, and I decided to visit your blog. :) I also signed up to follow with Google Friend Connect. Hopefully I will remember to participate next Monday.

Love that smile on Sage, she's adorable. I also love how in ever pic of Hunter, the pup isn't too far behind. I think that's just precious. :) I used to be a nervous sweater, too. But it eventually went away. Except for times like now, when I sweat all the time. ;) Have a great week!

B said...

The zoo is always a fun time! I love all the cute pictures :) And can I just say, Hunter is getting so big!
I'm the exact same way about big groups. I think that's why I am such a homebody, but I don't mind it :)
Enjoy your week, sweet girl!

Loving all the pictures of the zoo! As for being nervous around crowds. So am I. I don't know why, but I don't like it.

Those zoo pictures are so cute and it's sweet that Hunter takes after his dad. I love the picture of sweet Sage and her smile. I too get nervous just like that, you are not alone. Less is definitely more...the more kids have the more they want (and are money whiny I think).

Summer said...

That is the cutest little giraffe I have ever seen!! Love it!! Wow look at that pic of Hunter and your hubby with that giraffe what a great pic!! Did you take it? Girl you have skills :0)

Baby Sage is so pretty just like her mommy!!
No worries I to get nervous before going to big events and I am a big social butterfly LOL

Loved this post
Have a fantabulous week friend

Oh girl I am the queen of nerves. I hate it.

You are all beyond adorable. That picture of Sage is so yummy I just want to eat her up!

Amber said...

Love the pictures of you and the family at the zoo. Super cute!

And I agree with you completely about children who grow up with less actually turning out better than children who have everything. I am a pastor's daughter and as a result the budget was always tight for my family. I paid my way through college and have helped to support myself since I was 18. I feel like I have adjusted to adulthood much more quickly than my friends who always depended on their parents for everything.

Anne said...

I love the giraffe costume! It's so precious! And I get nervous going places with lots of people too. And I agree with you about less being more for kids. I pretty much like all you miscellany today :)

BARBIE said...

I love the zoo! I should make a trip soon. Love your pictures, and Hunter is just adorable in that costume! I grew up in a family that didn't have much, but we had love. I sometimes feel guilty that I can't give my children more, but I know in the end it's love that matters. Just the thought of having to pay for two weddings makes me nervous!

Lea said...

OH, Carissa, my Dad was a Pastor my entire life and there were times that we did not know where the next meal was going to come from. But, I watched and learned a dependency upon God that HE will provide every need. We never went without, had everything we needed and some wants, but I wouldn't trade my life for all the wealth in the world. My children have no idea what that is like and I really feel that we have likely done them a grave injustice by providing for them way more than they ever needed. Of course, they are grown now and I pray that in spite of our over indulgence that they did learn a real dependency upon God.

I missed participating today but just had my hands full yesterday and never made it to the computer. Blessings to you and your sweet family.

Carissa,

I am soooo nervous too. I absolutely dislike that part about me. We went to the State Fair and rode in the Motorcycle Parade. There were probably about 300+ motorcycles and I was so stinkin' nervous. I felt like everyone was staring at me when they were probably actually looking at the motorcycles. :)

On our honeymoon I also couldn't stay at the overcrowded Miami Beach very long because all of the people made me nervous.

As far as parties go..I am nervous there too. I don't know why these nerves think they can rule how we feel, but they do!

Don't worry, you are not alone. :)

hi-d said...

That little giraffe outfit is SO adorable!!!

I totally agree with the whole "less is more" philosophy. I think it's true for kids & adults alike. It really puts things in perspective and it's easier to be grateful for the small stuff...

Oh and regarding your nervous thing...I think we all have something like that that we can relate to...you are definitely not alone! You're just one of the brave ones to admit it.

God Bless!
hi-d

I agree with your #4 about Less is More...my hubby is a Worship Pastor too and we'll never have to worry about that :) Unless we win big on Wheel of Fortune...but you have to play to win :)

Lauren said...

The zoo pictures are TOO CUTE! I love giraffes too - smart boy! :)

I completely agree with less is more... maybe it's cause we're both youth pastor's wives! haha

Leah said...

Such sweet smiles your babies have! I think it's so cute how Hunter's diaper is sticking out above his shorts. Some of my little two year~old boy students have the whole sagging gangsta pants going on...not to reveal boxers underneath, but pampers! Too cute!

Have a blessed week Carissa!

Uyen said...

looks like they all had a great time. That's so neat that your son was able to ride on the baby elephant. How cool is that?

partialemptynester said...

Thanks for introducing us to Hilary through your giveaway, she's adorable! And so is your BFF, too fun! K...so here's how you deal with the nervousness thing...I've been around a long time, so I know these things, lol...you begin to realize that everyone feels that way at one time or another, so you focus on making others feel less nervous/more comfortable, then you forget your nervous...
Love the giraffe costume...so, so cute, so glad he loves animals and the zoo :)) And that Sage, omgoodness, she is just growing up, her smile just lights up...the baby stroller!!!

As far as kids not needing so much...sooo true! My son is realizing that this generation coming up is going to be the first gen not to do as well as their parents...his comment, "so my kids are going to be just fine visiting their grandparents for vacation instead touring the world!" Gotta love the "manboy"! Your kids will be so rich on love, friends and Jesus, they won't realize church employees don't make much...I can say that, my parents were missionaries, remember :))

Cara said...

I love Sage's adorable smiling face. Oh she is a cute peanut. Also, you look STUNNING holding Hunter on that little elephant. You're soo gorgeous, Carissa. Thanks for sharing! xoxo

Okay, Hunter is the cutest thing ever in his Halloween costume, not to mention pictures from the zoo. And I could not agree with you more on point #4. Less is more!!!

Lynnette Kraft said...

Hey Carissa. I thought I would just say AMEN to the statement about kids not having everything they want. I do think that kids that come from wealthy families can be wonderful and frugal and Godly - just as long as they don't get everything they want, because it's not the money - but the love of money, right? :)

I get nervous too - terribly nervous.

I joined in today - first time I think!
Have a lovely evening.

hi there! :) love all the pics as always. was wondering what brand/type workout shoes you are wearing in the zoo pics?????? :)

Oh my goodness, #3 is SO me!!!!

I thought I might be the only one that felt that way. I definitely get nervous for normal group gathering sort of events and then when I'm done I'm usually not sure why I was nervous in the first place (not every time but most the time).

Oh, and the silence thing - yep, me too! I start babbeling about stupid things. I think I've embarrassed my poor husband on occassion...but probably not as much as I have embarrassed myself, I'm sure.

Brooke&Tyson said...

OH MY GOODNESS- That is the cutest giraffe I've ever seen in my whole life... Hunter just melts my heart... and Sage..That smile!! You have such beautiful babies!!! I'm so glad yall had a great weekend!!

Ugh, I sweat too, but alll the time hah! I have to take medicine on certain days when I know I'm going to be shaking lots of hands... Otherwise people look at me like I'm disgusting when my wet hand touches theirs.. hah!

Less is definitely more. Tyson and I have so much fun with not having much- I think it makes a person appreciate the little things more. :)

I loved your email today... I will email you back today or tomorrow. Praying so hard for yall!!!! God is good... All the time!!

those pictures are soooo sweet! and less is more! living a life of serving the Lord is the best life to live!! :) have a great week carissa!

Eldarwen said...

You're 3rd miscellany explains me exactly. I get nervous around crowds, too, then afterwards I'm like, "Okay, why was I nervous?" I also talk just so there's no silence. Though, in my case, it's usually a bad thing. lol :D

Love,
Eldarwen

Becca said...

I tend to get nervous around huge crowds of people too. My mother is so much worse than me though. Her palms will start sweating, she will get extremely irritated, then the next thing I know, she is running for the door. I usually just laugh my way through it which can be super awkward at times! lol!

Hunter is getting sooo big! I am glad y'all had such a great time. He looks so adorable in that costume!

Tawny said...

HI, HI, HI!!! How are you friend? I am trying to get my bloggy mojo back, and as soon as I did, I of course headed here :)
Your babies are getting SO DARN BIG! And cuter and cuter by the day! You look fantastic too momma :)
LOVE the costume! Just bought my Miss S's tonight and she had a fit because she couldn't sleep with it :)

So sweet! We just fed the giraffes a couple of weeks ago. You don't realize just how long their necks really are until you get up close and personal like that. I'm glad Hunter enjoyed himself and Sage is just precious. She obviously had a good time too.
