1. while you were sleeping. or blogging. or whatever. we were on vacation (thanks to skymiles, and my grandparents' cooking and lodging). and since hubsy isn't fond of letting the whole world know that our house is empty, i wasn't allowed to say anything until we got back. he's smart like that. but, in case you noticed the beautiful backdrops in our attempted christmas pictures, you'd also notice that we definitely were not in south carolina. we were back home, visiting my family in the bay area of california. which just so happens to be stunningly beautiful, which also makes it harder to come back to the lowcountry of the south. no offense, i just adore hills, mountains, bays, the ocean with cliffs and real waves. ; )
clockwise from top left: the redwoods, bodega bay, sonoma vineyards, and san francisco. see why i miss living there??!?
2. no shut eye on the red eyes. we had red eye flights there and back. it was interesting. neither of the kids screamed or were loud. i'm way thankful for that. on the way out, daddy and mommy were separated with a kid on each of our laps. the faa has regulations that only allow one infant in arms per aisle. and we had window seats. ugh. the plane was full to the brim so they couldn't change them for us. we figured a kind person would see our stress and switch with us. a sweet lady switched with me. a mean man told hubby no. can you even fathom? kelly is standing there, holding sage, who is on the verge of a crying fest, with a diaper bag, and a bottle in her mouth, and the guy on the aisle made him get all the way over to the window. kelly should have got up a bunch of times, but he's nicer than me and didn't. i had the honor of holding our 30lb sack of sugar on my lap who did NOT sleep at all. it was like 3 am and he wasn't about to close his eyes. at least he was quiet. on the way back home, they let kelly and i sit together (apparently they didn't know the rules and we weren't about to inform them) and we had an empty seat next to us...it was blissful, despite it being the middle of the night. the kids slept. mommy and daddy did not.
3a. family, friends, food, and fabulous places. that pretty much sums up our time. it was wonderful being home, seeing all my precious family and our sweet friends. the scenery is spectacular and we pretty much stuffed our faces. i was convinced i gained some serious poundage, but i guess since we were on the go so much it helped burn off the thousands of calories i packed on... to my surprise i lost 4 lbs... i need to vacation more often. : ) back to the food... i believe that everyone should have the privilege of tasting in-n-out. at least once. and i was informed that you could order a neapolitan shake rather than just chocolate. and at only $1 something, it's more than good.
3b. #3 calls for it's own post. you may have to forgive me as i blog about our trip for the next, well, month. i would do a scrapbook, but blogging is easier and cheaper. : ) it helps get over the post-vacation-want-to-move-back-home-blues.
4. red faced. after arriving at the airport, after being awake all night, sitting on the plane with a full bladder, (i didn't dare use the restroom on the plane for fear of waking up the babe in my arms) i walked into the men's restroom. urinals and all. and they were in use. i wanted to die.
5. say cheese. we finally got our christmas card picture. we went to the coolest beach ever, goat rock, and my grandma snapped a winner:
and if you're wondering where our matching outfits are, or where our specially coordinated attire went, remember, i'm a no frills kind of gal. for me, life's easier that way.

Beautiful scenic pics of CA! I had no idea of that FAA rule - that's not nice! I'm glad for your sake that no one realized it on the way home. You got a beautiful picture for your Christmas card. Lucky you! I'm jealous :) We are attempting ours next week. Just the thought of it makes me stress! Have a great week adjusting to being back at home!

Wonderful FAMILY picture!!!!
(I still love the scowl one, just so you know.)
We miss IN-N-OUT. When we lived in San Diego it was one of our faves. Yummy, yummy, yummy.
Yeah for the four pounds. I've decided that I must vacation with you. I think that when I come home from a vacation it's probably the opposite.
It sounds like you had a lovely vacation. The pictures are amazing. Glad you had that time by the real waves, my friend!
Have a wonderful Monday. :)
Love the Christmas card picture :) Glad y'all had such a fun time!
That picture of you and the fam is SO CUTE!!!! <333
I love the picture with you all together. Super cute! In and Out is the first restaurant we visit when we land in California. My favorite. As for the bathroom embarrassment…been there and done that. especially when you are trying to take a toddler to go potty.*blush*
Thanks for sharing all your randomness and beautiful pictures!

I LOVE your family picture! even the kids smiled, which I know is a HUGE deal! it`s so hard to catch them on a picture sometimes!
I totally understand why you miss Cali. I grew up with mountains too...great pictures, great posts!
The picture turned out great. Your grandma is a good photographer! I'm not sure why you'd even give matching outfits a 2nd though - you all look totally adorable! (though I did like some of the outtakes too!)
Sounds like you had a great vacation!
So funny about not being aloud to say you are on vacation....my hubby is the same way..LOL! I don't think any of your bloggy buddies are coming to break in, but if it makes them more at ease, then I go with it :) The picture turned out great...you all look so happy! It is going to make a great Christmas card.
That picture is definitely a winner! That's terrific! I've got to get busy getting my Christmas picture ready to go! Your vacation sounds fun, although kinda like you I need a vacation after my vacation since they always wear me out so! Funny story about the bathroom incident! I've done that before myself...so embarrassing!
Such a sweet family photo!! :) awww. This season of life goes by SO fast!
Bless you heart - I've never taken my babes on a plane but we've driven through the night... that's one of the worst kinds of exhaustion.
LOL about the bathroom - thanks for sharing that, what a great laugh to start the week with!
I would be blue after coming back from that too. You grew up THERE?? Lucky!!! Love your Christmas picture....gorgeous scenery...gorgeous family. Can't wait to hear every little detail. I love vacation...even if it's other people's vacations:)
Wow, I'd be way homesick too if I had to leave a place like that behind!!! Thanks for sharing, your vacay sounds AMAZING!!
What a vacation...all of that AND you lost 4 pounds. I do plan to visit there in the next few years...I have family in LA and I must try In & Out. LOVE the Christmas pictures...love that you guys are just yourselves and not matchy. I laughed at your bathroom experience...I would have been red too :)
What an adorable photo!!!!!!
P.S. You have one smart hubby!!!! {Not telling your blog buddies about the empty house!!} SMART!!!! :)
Have a wonderful week!!!
xoxo
Love your Christmas card photo!!! Such a cute family:-) Mum is the word here when we go on vaca too...much smarter that way! And the mens restroom...yikes...but hey, you will never see them again!!! LOL!
Christmas card photo is perfection!
I hope you had a great vacation. Love the picture.
love your christmas card picture! it's perfect!! :)
Had to check your post as I just knew you would post something about vacation. Love the picture you choose, so sweet of everyone. Hey, you are all in sweatshirts. What's not the same about that?
Sorry your eyes weren't open enough to see the sign on the men's bathroom. I've done that and not even traveled all night with red eyes.
I too love the the Calif. scenery and I guess thats why I live here. You are welcome back any tine.
Love you,
Grandma
I LOVE In-N-out burger! They are so delicious...mmmm...:)

Oh, me, I can certainly understand your "longing" for home. How beautiful! Love the bathroom story and I'm just amazed at the rudeness of folks! How dare people be so thoughtless of a young Dad and Mom flying with two little ones. Boo on them!
Blessings as you gear back down to normalcy. Whatever that is............ :o)
The San Fran area is such a beauty of it's own and I too would live there the rest of my life if my fam was closer to CA! :) It's the jaw dropping beauty!
Hey! I'm your newest follower. Yay! We got our Christmas cards in last wknd too. What is your strategy as far as addressing or getting addresses go? This is our first year doing it (for procrastinating reasons).
Wow, both kids smiling too?! Way to go, looks great!!
Glad you had a nice vacation...my husband is the same about posting anything on my blog or facebook when we're going to be gone or if he's going a a business trip. I think that's very wise...
That is hilarious that you walked into the men's restroom. Hahahaha...sorry, I couldn't help but laugh out loud.
I muat admit that there is an in n out walking distance from me and I take it for granted! Your Christmas family photo is absolutely presh!
Great picture!! Aww, kids on a plane, gotta love the sweet people and ignore the humbugs...and no, I can't believe, how in the world would someone not want to move for a baby!?! How fun to be at the right place at the right time and enjoy the festivities of a winning team coming home...I bet it was just wild around there! In-n-Out burgers...the best!!! I've so done the walking in on a men's restroom before, but have been spared the embarrassment of the urinals being in use...omgosh, hopefully their backs were to ya and no one notice, LOL!!!!!!
ok loved the winning picture...look at little sage holding onto her brother! sweeeeeet!
lol@the urinal moment!
I had a roommate freshmen year that always talked about IN-N-OUT (she was from California)
And being from Arkansas, I had no idea what she was talking about.
I did try it in Utah this past summer. It was pretty good :)
I figured you were gone to the west coast, because you wrote a few months back about skymiles.
And the restroom episode, no comments ; )
The photos look amazing!!! I can never get enough of In-Out burger. I love that place!
WHAT an amazing trip. I can't believe you flew with the two babes. We're about to take our longest trip ever with the two little one's - a four hour drive. Pitiful, I know.
You definitely got a keeper for your Christmas card!!! It's gorgeous - not only was everyone looking, but everyone was smiling. :)
Followed ur blog. Link up your blog name and badge to return the favor to follow you back http://bit.ly/cn9U9H
(-- This is Gwen I'm not sure why it's saying John????)
I'm no frills too. I love your Christmas pic - I really prefer pictures like yours that look realistic, not where everyone is dressed perfect with fake smiles plastered on. You wonder where the real people are? Either that or I know that with 7 kids we're never going to have a "perfect" pic - "realistic" is the only option :)
No sleep on your flight... so sorry... Last time we flew to Dallas, I discovered it really is possible to nurse from Milwaukee to Oklahoma City. She was quiet - and we both survived!
Love bodega bay! That's where my husband proposed - we love it!! We're Norcal Folk (I mean NORTH state too). Love goat rock...beautiful pics! Yum, in-n-out, I didn't know it was a cali thing?
Beautiful Pictures! My husband is going to the seminary in Mill Valley...so we are currently enjoying the beauty of northern-cal. Unfortunately the beauty comes with a high cost of living so we don't get to enjoy it as much as we wish to :)
AWwww your family picture is too cute! It looks like everyone is doing well eventhough you had a full bladder and walked in the men's room! LOL!
yay! You're back home! Can't wait to hang out! btw- love the family picture for the christmas cards. Who needs to be matching when you have such a pretty family & scenery like you have around you?!?! I'm lucky if we even get a family picture before christmas... well, we are going to because I need one for our christmas card! hehe.
Awesome!
Found you from a random button. Great site. I'll be back for more!
Being there after the World Series win would have been amazing!!
The Survival Mama
Sounds like y'all had an amazing vacay! I must say that I am extremely jealous {not so much with the whole men's room thing}!! That picture turned out so great!!!
