dirteeeee!

i don't know why i don't mind embarrassing myself.  i'm quite good at it actually.  i guess i enjoy a good laugh, whether it's at my own expense or not.  {it's usually always at my own expense.  just ask my husband.} getting on with it...

i keep a clean house.  i go crazy if i don't.  clutter makes me cringe and messes make me mad.  with all that said, i tend to neglect my bathroom floor.  i know what you're thinking... disgusting {how embarrassing}.  it's not that bad - it's not like we wear shoes in our bathroom {and in my defense, it's cheap linoleum that doesn't look good in the first place}.  well yesterday, i was brushing my teeth and had Hunter with me.  he wouldn't come into the bathroom because the floor was "dirteeeeee."  he repeatedly said "euwwww.  gross.  dirteeee."  finally he worked up the courage to cross the trenches and freaked out the whole time.  he reached the floor mat in front of the shower and parked it.  then i told him i was done - you should have seen the disgust on his face... he realized he'd have to walk through the dirteee again to get out.

okay.  time for mommy to scrub that floor to make it worthy for Hunter's little feet.

and now i'm inspired to do some serious end-of-winter-almost-spring cleaning.  if you're ready to do the same and want to save some bucks while you're at it, then here you go ~

1. instead of using toilet cleaner, try a cup of white vinegar.  let it sit for 10 minutes then brush and flush.

2. instead of microfiber cloths on glass surfaces, try coffee-filters.  after all, they're lint free.

3.  instead of eraser pads, try whitening toothpaste on a toothbrush to scrub away crayon and scuff marks.

 4. instead of glass cleaner, try a mixture of equal parts rubbing alcohol and water to clean mirrors.  spray onto a cloth and wipe away.

5. instead of baking soda, try a charcoal briquette to absorb odors in your fridge and freezer.

{these tips are courtesy of all you magazine.  and they did not pay me for this.  : )  by the way, if you coupon, you should be getting this mag. it's like the coupon ferry waves her wand and throws her dust all over your mailbox each month... i got a two year subscription for $16 through southern savers.  i've been getting it since 2009 and have saved a ton.}

if you have a cleaning tip or trick, pass it on!  i want to hear about it.  : )  help me keep Hunter happy.

Ooh you can use vinegar to mop with! And all sorts of cleaning, apparently if you sit a small bowl of vinegar in a room it will absorb odors.

I've heard you can use newspaper to clean windows too (haven't tried it though)

ive never heard of these besides the toothpaste one. thanks for the tips.!

I also neglect my bathroom floor. It's not something I'm proud of. :)

I love cleaning with Vinegar! You can also use it as fabric softener. Just put it in during the rinse cycle.
When I tell people that I use vinegar to clean, the first question is "Doesn't you house smell?", but once vinegar drys the smell is gone.
Thanks for the tips!

I'll have to try the vinegar!! Thanks!

I use newspapers for glass cleaning...have since I was a kid --my mom passed that trick on. Works great and no streaks!

I use vinegar for cleaning too. It works so well when I use it to mop the floors. Clean and safe for my kids.

Oooh good tips! Thanks!

I love using vinegar to clean too. Its also good to use on faucets or any other shiny metal in your bathroom, it cuts down on water residue. I put some in a spray bottle and spray down my shower with it as well.

LOL, too funny! I use baking soda and vinegar to get soap scum off the showers and porcelain tubs. Sometimes I throw in a dash of essential oil to make it smell pretty.

Also, you can use vinegar to rinse your hair every week or so, it removes the mineral buildups and makes it soooo shiny and soft.

instead of oxyclean or spray n'wash to get out stains use....(drumroll)...SCRUBBING BUBBLES!

yep, the shower cleaner (they "work hard so you don't have to").

i didn't believe it till i tried it myself. totally works. AND takes out set in oil, butter, and the like.

i'm a believer

oh girl, you have stolen my thunder! Just teasing, of course. It will be awhile before I start Tips Tuesday up again. :-)

I also love the All You mag and that is where I get a lot of my tips. I am so bad about not using all of the coupons, though. Just forget to take them with me. Even if you don't use many, there are certainly enough to pay for the mag. Smart people!

What is it about the bathroom floor? I also had a problem with keeping it clean until one day I sat down to do something and it looked like the tile was growing long hair. Totally gross!!! I didn't realize I was losing so much hair and certainly didn't want my floor to look like it was growing it! Now, I am a little better. The Swiffer is my friend. (You can use cheap paper towels on it, too.)

My cleaning tips:

-baking soda and white vinegar in the toilet bowl - works really well.
-we clean our countertops with Windex, which cleanses it well.
-we clean our floors with a vinegar/water (1/2 vinegar 1/2 water) and that also works well.

Hope that helps!

that is hilarious about Hunter! haha!

I sometimes, not always, use newspaper for window cleaning. Works great, no streaks, and you can throw it away when you're done.

Also, if you boil equal parts water and vinegar in a dirty microwave, it will help loosen all of the nasty stuff in your microwave, and you can wipe clean easily.

Yay - finally all this cool info in one place!!

We've been working on cleaning around here and need to start the really deep cleaning. I've used baking soda to scrub my stove top instead of a cleaner. Thanks for the tips.

An oh, so, excellent post, my friend! I love all the tips and tricks. (in fact so much I had to mention you on my blog today....)

Now I think I must go and clean my bathroom floor. And pull out that whitening toothpaste and start erasing those many many many many (did I say many?) marks all over my house.

Have a great Friday!!!

Coca-Cola (not sure about generic brands) will get almost anything off a hard-to-scrub pot/pan. We usually soak overnight. Works like a charm!!

I use distilled water, ammonia and alcohol to clean glass and surface. i use baking soda to boost laundry soap and vinegar in the rinse. I also do a baking soda paste facial..nobody believes until they try it. I also use baking soda with shampoo when I have any scalp issues.

Lately I have become a little nutz on the cleaning too and making sure that things are organized...may have to do with the fact that I just had a baby...anyway...one thing that I sometimes do is when the hand towel is ready to be thrown into the dirty clothes, I will use it to wipe down the toilet or the sink. I mean it's not like the towel is "soiled" but it's damp enough that when I wipe stuff down, it does the trick. I hope that's sanitary...to be sure you can then use cleaner...I like using glass cleaner on the toilet and sink. The towel thing is a good pre-cleaner...

ok. i'm not even kidding, i'm do the EXACT SAME THING. i will clean every other inch of the house, but i completely avoid our bathroom floor!!!!! this was so funny to read. have you ever tried borax? i use it for dishes. you can make your own dishwasher soap (1 part borax, 1 part baking soda), dishwashing liquid (1 cup borax, 1 cup baking soda, 1 cup vinegar, and 2tbsp lemon juice for the smell). and you only have to use half the amount that you normally would use. sheer awesome.

p.s. glad i found these old posts on your sidebar!
