miscellany monday.

write random and link it on up.

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

1. a funny.
i've mentioned when parents text before, but i must do so again... it's so full of good fun.  example:

2. the taste of spring.
salads just can't but help scream spring.  spring also makes me think of bathing suits.  which therefore encourages me to eat lots of vegetables, i.e. salads. my favorite salad pairing is spinach, strawberries, strawberry vinaigrette, and slivered toasted almonds.  a raspberry version of this variety is also just as tempting.  only, i don't think it can be quantified as tempting because it's good for you.  since i know that we are all antsy for spring, just whip yourself up a healthy greens mix and you'll soon feel like april has sprung.  well, almost.

3. tricks for treats.
our son is crazy obsessed with our little boston terrier, Banjo.  we give Banjo treats when she does her tricks.  Hunter has quickly caught on... if he wants a cookie he holds out his hand and says "shake," or lays on the floor, or rolls over... and then says "treat."  **chuckles**  hmm.  i need to enlist Banjo's help with potty training.

4.  pass the omega 3's please.
Dr. Sears, the author of the Zone diet, says that the best way to help ward off obesity is to take an omega 3 vitamin everyday (think fish oil).  Sears also said it helps boost brain power.  and, it's even good to give them to your children for the same benefits.

5. carissa and her camera.
someone recently asked me what lens i use (thank you sweet Jennifer).  i sort of laughed because the camera i have is an eight year old Canon 10D (eight years isn't that old, but this IS technology we're talking about) with a 300 mm Sigma lens that was the cheapest on the market back then.  i should also say that this is really my honey's camera that he purchased before there was me (back when he had money, as he likes to say... ha ha).  i have just sort of adopted it.  : ) (sidenote: i do have a good point and shoot, too, but i find myself using it less and less.) and i don't know what i'm doing.  i'll take hundreds of pictures and maybe get two good ones.  it's all trial and error.  i read the manual, but then when i'm actually taking pictures i go blank and can't remember anything.  aperture what?!?  anyways, i guess it's my newest obsession.  it's a good hobby for me to have - it's completely free and is kid friendly since they're my main subjects.

sage and her ribbons and bows.

6. happy presidents day.
my favorite president was George Washington.  he wasn't eager for fame or recognition. he didn't even really want to be president.  but the people admired his leadership and lovingly demanded his presidency.  he simply rose to the occasion like the honorable man he was.  okay, enough of a history lesson... the political science girl in me couldn't resist.  : )

That text is too funny! I would've NEVER known that's what it said! haha

That salad looks great, and I too know bathing suit season is right around the corner...I've GOT to do something!

Christian looooves to try to get the dogs to do tricks too! Sometimes he'll just tease them with a snack of his and then eat it...sometimes the dogs will get a hold of it anyway and he yells "Nonononononononono!"

You tell me if YOUR son has ever done anything like what I'm showing in my miscellany today...it's hilarious and quite scary all at the same time!

Happy Monday!

How ironic! I was just googling spinach salad recipes last night. I am craving spinach which probably means my body is lacking something it needs :) I will have to try your combo! Thanks for the reminder on fish oil, too. My hubby is so good about taking it but me? Not so much! I need to make it part of my morning routine...

What a cute Hunter story and Sage's picture is just adorable! Such a blessed, blessed mama you are my friend! I hope you have a fabulous week ahead! xoxo, Kelly

I love that Hunter will shake and roll over for a treat...that is too cute! I have tried to like spinach salads. The diet we are doing now calls for a lot of spinach, and I just don't like it! The leaves are too waxy to me and the stems are bitter. I'm going to try again this week, but I'm pretty sure I still don't like it:)

One day I'm going to learn to do pictures as good as you. I have 3 very nice cameras and I always end up using my tiny Nikon S800 because it is always with me. But. it does take really good pics.

Love the looks of that salad!

I do text quite a bit and occasionally I get confused with the language, but for the most part I do pretty good.

Enjoy the day with your Hubby. It's always fun to have a day off to just do whatever you want to do. Hugs!

I LOVE spinach salads. We eat one almost every night thanks to inexpensive organic spinach from Costco. My favorite spinach salad ingredients are toasted almonds, tomatos, cucumbers, a little feta, sliced strawberries or mandarin oranges, raspberry vinagarette and just a dollop of ranch. DELICIOUS!!!!

Happy Presidents Day to you too!! Your comments on Washington being honorable make me sad, because it shouldn't be uncommon for our leaders to lead with honor. :(
