two on 2/2

now if that isn't a golden birthday, i don't know what is!

my first born is two as of yesterday.  does it get easier as they get older or is it just as hard to watch them grow? - it happens too fast.  i have to remind myself that every new stage has its new joys.



i remember the night my water broke like it happened last night.  there were two minutes left in the super bowl and honey told me to hang on as i was calling for him from upstairs.  he thought i only needed toilet paper and that i could wait.  ; )  we got to the hospital, things progressed quickly, i was 8 cm and then boom... hunter's heart rate dropped.  a bajillion medical people rushed in and said an emergency c-section was necessary to save my boy.  i cried.  i was nervous.  i was also excited to meet him.  within fifteen minutes i was staring into his crying eyes.  i've never been so thankful for c-sections.  


and now, a little combination of me and my man walks runs among us.  what a gift!  


we spent his birthday saying the abc's...


playing with his barn...  i never want to forget how he plays... 


eating his first ever homemade (egg-free) chocolate chip cookie...


it actually tasted like a normal cookie.  i've made several batches before with different recipes and they all were awful.  these were keepers.  hunter loved them.  and so did we.  the recipe called for cream cheese instead of eggs.  here it is, for all you anti-egg eaters out there ~ 

Ultimate Egg Free Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients





2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup butter at room temperature
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt


Directions
Preheat oven to 375ºF. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt; set aside. In large mixer bowl, cream together butter, sugar, brown sugar, cream cheese, and vanilla. Gradually blend dry mixture into butter/sugar mixture. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop heaping tablespoons (I use a 18/8 cookie scoop) onto ungreased cookie sheets about 2 inches apart. Bake at 375ºF for 9 to 11 minutes, or until golden brown.

it was a laid back birthday of cherishing the little moments.  it's the tiny blessings of life's everyday's that mean the most.

Beautiful little boy.
With Benjamin, he was in distress during labor too. It was so scary. I pushed for 2.5 hours and they said with his heartrate dropping I would need an emergency c section but I guess I was able to push him out in the last possible second. He was sunny-side up! No wonder he took so long to get out.
It was the worst feeling in the world, seeing the panic on the nurses faces as they were trying not to look panicked, but called for the doctor to come right away.
That was a hard birth!
So glad you have a healthy, beautiful boy :)

Look at that Strawberry Blonde hair! He is just so precious! Oh and yup it stays hard LOL BUT it is the Hardest job we will ever love....and there are more good moments then bad....I thought the 4's would be easier and we are four mths into them and wow....LOL

OK soooo what a great birthday and a great idea to let him pick his whole day! I love the ABC cards in his room and all the things he picked out to play! The cookies do sound good, who would have thought sour cream in cookies how fun!

Your mom and sister are so cute!

I love that bible verse "you are fearfully and wonderfully made" When Kelcee was born she was born in the evening my aunt brought her a book "On the night you were born" and that bible verse is in it throughout the book and it is one of our favs....

I love the picture with the Thomas the Trains in the barn. He's got it right -- you read the books and they go to the station, I mean, barn. :) I've got a couple pictures like that of my little Hannah. Savor these times.

And I'm glad you found those egg-free cookies. Finding appropriate foods -- whether egg free or gluten free -- can certainly be challenging. When you find a gem you have to go with it!

Happy Birthday Hunter! I love the trains in his farm...boys do have some fun playing:) I'm so glad you found a good cookie recipe. A birthday with no treat would be terrible! When Henry was little he had egg and milk allergies and there was a local bakery that make milk, egg, and nut free cakes...such a lifesaver!

Lovin' the Fisher Price barn. Boy, they have come a long way since my girls had theirs and especially since I had mine. My people had wooden bodies with perfectly small round heads. Sometimes change is a blessing.

i think it's both hard to watch them grow and it gets harder as they grow... if that is even possible. i know that already having a toddler makes me relish in the new baby moments so much more with Connor than i ever did with Brayden. and that makes me kind of sad.

Yes, Carissa, each age brings it's joys (and sorrows) but it's all fun. I wouldn't trade any stage that ours went through.

Hunter is just precious. He's just 4 mos. younger than our Grandson. We haven't found the "2's" to be that difficult just yet. :o)

What a wonderful and sweet blog post. Happy B-day to Hunter! They do grow fast, but the memories last a lifetime! You are doing a good job of cherishing and recording the moments!

My kids are 15 and 11 and I drive them nuts with all my stories of when they were younger! I love the bible quotation at the end and "we and fearfully and wonderfully made".

Happy Birthday to Hunter!! It's so sad how quickly time goes by but as you point out each stage has its new joys. It really does get more and more fun (although, I will always miss holding them while they were sleeping as babies!).
