miscellany monday

write random and join in below.

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

1. dear humanity et al:
spray-on sunscreen doesn't work.  the wind eats it mid-stream leaving your body bare and susceptible to the cancer causing rays of mr. sun.  be warned.  and after living near the beach my whole life, i'm reminded of this yet again this year at the expense of my splotchy skin.

2.  beach babies.
going to the beach with two young children is an entirely different experience.  laying out what?  but, i must admit... it's way more fun this way.

our beach set-up... we brought everything but the kitchen table.

helping daddy fish.

playing at the beach works up your appetite.  beach or not, Sage's appetite is extra hearty (obviously).

3. magazine moments.
i've forgotten about the goodness of a good magazine.  honey and i had a date this weekend (second one since Sage was born.  it was a treat to get some alone time!) that included dinner and then a trip to barnes and noble where we sat and looked through magazines.  for free.  sometimes i feel like it's too good to be true.  you don't even have to buy them to enjoy them.  score.  i gathered whole living, photography how-to, and the food network magazine.  if you need a date idea that costs nothing, this is it.

4. a dress for date night.
whenever you are in the midst of having babies your wardrobe kind of goes kerplunk.  i don't think i've bought spring or summer clothes since 2007.  this was a deal that i had to indulge in ~

5. coming soon to my bookshelf.
if you're like me, you are often perplexed by social media.  it's good, but it's addicting.  it's a way to stay in touch with people, but also time consuming.  overall, the good mostly outweighs the bad (i think) as long as it's in moderation.  however, how does it effect faith?  my walk with the Lord?  does it?  all of these are questions i grumble over... what do you think?  i'm highly anticipating this book - The Next Story: Life and Faith After the Digital Explosion by Tim Challies:

Cute dress! I can't wait for beach days this year. And Sage, in her bathing suit? The belly? The leg rolls? Oh my gosh, so cute! You must want to eat her up all the time.

Awesome beach pics!! Looks like a great time :) I'm with you on spray-on sunscreen. I use the regular stuff with the kids...before we even leave the house...when we're in the sun (i.e. every.single.day) but always the spray for myself. What can I say? It's a time thing!

Awesome date night and super cute dress! That book looks interesting...might have to check it out. Hope you'll share your thoughts if/when you read it!

Adorable kiddos! Seriously, adorable! My hubs used spray-on sunscreen this weekend when he mowed the yard and he got sunburned. I told him it didn't work and he didn't believe me at first (he couldn't see the back of his neck). It's good to know that it doesn't work for you either, now I know I'm not crazy. Before kids we used to do the B&N magazine thing all the time. I forgot about that until you wrote about it. Ahhh, sweet memories :) And, cute dress at Target!

Hilda said...

OMG! Can your kids be any more adorable?!!! Seriously, I just want to squeeze those chubby little cheeks and legs! Sooo cute. Looks like you guys had fun and I am the same way: I bring my whole house with me when out with kids.
you look super cute in that dress. No surprises here. Glad you got to enjoy a quiet evening.
ooh, and social media is a huge distraction to me,but at the same time I do enjoy keeping in touch.I am trying to find the middle road..

You look adorable! We love going to Barnes and Noble -- it's a perfect ending for a date night. :)

And Sage and Hunter? So sweet.

You'll have to give me some beach advice -- I'm going to be going to Hilton Head this summer with some friends. I've already made a note to self about Target and their amazing deals. :)

I'm so glad that you had a lovely weekend.

I've missed Miscellany Monday, so I'm happy to be back. Hubby takes me to Barnes and Noble most date nights. We just went on Saturday. That's about as exciting as life has to be for me! I enjoy magazines and looking at them there is fun.

Some of those pictures of sage in her bathing suit are so cute, and the expressions made me giggle.

LeAnna said...

I'm totally going to check out that book! And your dress is adorable, I have one post-kids one from Target, and I love it. We love date nights to B&N! Some of my best memories from dating are there, so we go back often. ;) Not unusual to find us on the floor, me with a sewing or photog book and he with some architectural something or other.
Fun beach pics! I wish the closest one to us wasn't a several day drive! ;)

Looks like you had a lovely weekend at the beach and I'm SO glad you take a date night occasionally! We're finally doing that after (I don't know how many) months w/o one - a Tim Hawkins show later this month here in Dallas!

it's still snowing at my house, so I can't even begin to tell you how much I am CRAVING some sun, let alone a BEACH! Could those kids be any more adorable???! oh. my. GOSH!

What a genius idea for a date. We also got a date this weekend, thanks to a local 16 year old. We spent a ridiculous amount on dinner and a movie ($10 a ticket now) and next time, we're headed to the book store!!

You rock.
Oh, and my thoughts on social media and faith. I hop a LOT, and when I stumble across an outwardly devout Christian it gives me a quick reminder to check in with God. For me, baby Christian, it's given me an amazing opportunity to connect with other Christians, and share my faith. Plus one from me. Now going out to pick up that book.

That's my kind of date. Honey and I do the EXACT same thing. Love me Barnes and Noble and all their eye candy magazines! Could your babes be any cuter?? OR you for that matter. Love sagey poo's rolls;) You've officially got me geared up for the beach:)

Love your dress! And that sounds like the perfect date night to me, I love browsing mags and not having to buy, esp because I love Peformance VW & that mag is redic expensive bc its from the UK. hahah.

And I'm super jealous you got to go to the beach; but its like you had plenty of fun! I can't wait for summer to get here.

Linda said...

I have never looked through magazines at Barnes and Noble...but I do it at the Library...and I enjoy it.

Your kids are just too cute! Sage looks adorable is that swimming suit!

First, your beach pictures are adorable! I am excited/dreading Chloe's first trip to the beach! Remember when the beach was a towel, a bottle of sunscreen, a book, and a bottle of water?

I want to read that book too. I have been seriously considering closing my FB but then someone will post something really encouraging or I will have the opportunity to pray for someone. I even do my Bible study in a chat room! It's a fascinating, beautiful, addictive world.

Looks like some beachy fun...and I love the magazine reading on date night! The first time we tried spray sunscreen was for a day at a water park. Ouchee! We all got so burned we were sick (even my golden-skinned daughter). Have a great week :) Lisa

Oh and Sage?! ADORABLE! Love those baby rolls!

Mariel Sarah said...

The beach pics looks so fun! And Sage's belly is just. too. stinkin. cute!

That book looks really interesting. I'm awful at book reading (I start like 5 at a time and never finish) but the topic seems right up my alley. I love that we Christians can proudly proclaim who we are in our blogs, tweets, and FB posts, and I think that it's so encouraging to keep up and read about what God is doing in people's lives! Also, social media is a constant reminder to me to think about what I'm saying or how I'm reflecting Christ. Would Jesus retweet this? Should I be complaining on my blog...again? Are my FB photos glorifying to the Lord? Crazy stuff to think about while mouse clicking and keyboard typing!!

Sammy said...

such a cute dress!

looks like the kidos had a great time at the beach!

Leeann @ Join the Gossip said...

Those two kiddos may be the cutest things ever! Adorable!!

I can attestto the spray on sunscreen. Made that mistake once...had spots of red all over my body. Looked like a spay burn instead of tan! Not a good look...

Oh my goodness...I miss squishy babies...now I just have a squishy 5 yr old!

It's funny about the beach. The few times I've gone by myself, I thought I'd love it. It just felt weird being without the kids (and sort of boring). Growing up can be annoying.

Yana said...

You kids are so cute!!!
I also love Target... I actually tried that dress on this weekend! So cute. But I had to resist the temptation.
And the beach+Barnes&Nobles sounds like the most lovely weekend.

Anne said...

Love the beach pics - looks so fun! And that book looks so interesting. A pastor in our area did a series on technology and it was so good and thought provoking. I think we definitely need to be careful with our use of technology - there are so many effects of it that we are not even aware of.

Sarah-Anne said...

love that dress. we're Target twins, you know... ;)

Um, my dear friend, entry number 91, you might want to check my blog. And give Elijah -- the official drawer of the give-away -- a hug.
