1. i didn't intend to post only once last week, but blogger had a mind of it's own. when something is free, though, you can't complain!
2. i want to get out of the house often. in a car. i want to go places. when i had a car, though, i longed for days to stay home, and thus, find myself full of confusing conundrums.
3. and since i mentioned conundrums, let me say that child-rearing is simultaneously beautiful and challenging every step of the way.
4. i live in a sea of self-condemnation. over silly things - like unfolded laundry, a less than perfect kept house, pleasing the masses. i'm not sure if it's something that comes with the motherhood territory or what. i have to tell myself the Truth over and over ~ "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." -Romans 8:1 ESV. the new creation in me is chipping away at my flesh, quenching it, with the goal of expiration, despite the pain the whole process brings.
5. oh and speaking of the masses, it's impossible to be their friend. unfortunately, no one can keep up with everyone.
6. i want to redo my entire house with prettier/newer/brighter things. yet, i am not to store up treasures on this earth. (besides, we don't have the money for it!) conundruuuuuuums i tell you!
7. i long for greener pastures. like the hills of california. but i'm to be content in all places because my hope does not rest in my circumstances or in any thing... only in Christ alone!
8. and since i mentioned my golden homestate of awesomeness, i must proclaim that produce there is better than anywhere. it's cheaper too.
9. weaning yourself after eleven months of heifer-hood is a painful, mastitis-like process. it's amazing how quickly you forget that, though. sage: you are worth it.
10. my husband is a diligent man. he's working his full-time job along with two side jobs while playing the part of husband/father/yard-keeper/lawn mowerer. he's mine and hunter's hero. can't you tell?
11. flaxseed is not a worthy egg substitute for baking. lest you be fooled by it's robust nutty non-egg-like flavor, you'll get goopey brownies and crispy-much-too-crunchy cookies. it does shine brightly in smoothies, though.
12. the voice is the best waste of an hour of your time on tuesday nights. the voices are brilliant and the show is genius. it could be is better than american idol.
13. my little sister is turning 11 and going on 27. happy birthday mel. i remember the day she was born. time almost travels at the speed of light.
14. training for a half-marathon with two tiny children is a task tougher than i thought. the optimist in me was thinking, "hey, it's no biggie to leave the house and all your responsibilities for an hour or two every day." the realist is now coming out, although there's no turning back!
15. southern sunsets are spectacular.
i like writing in lists. it gives my discombobulated mind a platform.

I love flax seed in my bread but need to get better about putting it in other things.
For the first time ever, I'm joining in miscellany monday! Very excited!
In Christ,
Acacia
happy monday friend! i love all of your pictures! the babies are beautiful and growing and i still need to figure out how to watermark my pictures : ).
What an inspiring post my dear! As I've said before, you are such a testimony to following and doing the Lord's will, even though the way may get awfully "dark and dim" at times. I love how you share your human side!
Oh, I know you love your little sister. There's just nothing like a really younger sibling. I'm 12 years older than my youngest brother and I adore him, always have, always will.
Have a beautiful week and keep on keeping on!!
I'm still waiting on LB to ween himself. Not looking for the pain that is to come with that but looking forward to the freedom :) Sage is adorable!
Lovely post, Carissa! I, too, love lists {as you know from reading my blog} for the same reason as you. I cannot believe the clarity I get from writing a list. Sigh -- proves my dh is right -- he's always telling me to stop and write a list before starting my dya.
I have a friend that uses flaxmeal as an egg substitute as well. She has the same assessment. And, yes, the smoothies practically glisten. :)
Happy Birthday to your little, but getting older, sister.
Have a wonderful Monday my sweet friend!
I use flax seed instead of corn meal when I bake dog treats. My dog is allergic to corn. The flax seed makes his coat so pretty!
So inspiring....training for a half marathon. Go girl :)
I'm taking your last comment first - I LOVE lists too! I could totally identify with your conundrums, having several of my own. I enjoy reading your blog. It is well written, and even though you're decades younger than me, the issues you cover are ageless (except the whole breast-feeding thing!)
I really resonated with your comment on self-condemnation. I just wrote a post on that, actually. Praise God for the freedom we have in Christ!
I tried flaxseed in my cookies a few times because they are supposed to help with arthritis but I always added eggs too. Spraypaint is the perfect way to add bright new colors without spending a ton of money! A can of spray paint only cost about $4 and can make almost anything new:) Hunter is too cute in your hubby's boot...my boys love doing that too!
i have the itch to redo the entire house too!!! not happening here either. way to go on your training. that is so amazing. i have just recently started running myself. i working towards a 5k. :)
Good luck with the half marathon training! I can't imagine training while being a mom to two small ones :)
hey! just wanted to let you know that you're right - flaxseed usually turns out gross in cookies and brownies. BUT, it is awesome in pancakes and quick-breads! i use flaxseed every single time i make pancakes, muffins, or things like banana bread with great success. just wanted to let you know not to give up! :)
Hi Carissa. I've enjoyed Misc. Mondays and linking in to them. I loved your post today. I related to SO much of it. It sounds like you guys have one car right now. So do my husband and I. I didn't mind it, in fact enjoyed it, before we had a baby. We got extra time together when we would share it for work. Now, I wish, some days, I could go a few more places. I could take him to work, but he goes at 5:45 and that is so early to get my little one up and out. Also, about the self-condemnation thing . . . I'm finding myself there too. Being a new mom is SO WONDERFUL and sometimes so hard and overwhelming. Finally, I've never watched American Idol, but I do watch The Voice and am enjoying it. :) Thanks for writing!
Crazy. I'm in the same boat all of the sudden about wanting to re-decorate in light colors. Blues, Whites and yellows. I've always had browns and tans and dark colors. But now I want to change it. But alas...no moola :)
Hi there I followed kathlene from Simple Silly Life, to your blog. Miscillany Monday is just what I need.
Thanks for hosting, I hope to play along more than once
Have fun with the half! You are a runner already so you'll do great!! I am SO glad mine is over :)
My husband is doing the same--I admire his perseverance in exaustion so much...he is amazing as I am sure your husband is! We're blessed to have them--they are a rare breed! ; )
Those flowers are unbelievably absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous (yes it's true)
I agree w/you about CA and the produce. It's so much better, fresher and 'affordable' here. I'd ship some to you but I think it might lose the freshness, it might...
Not storing treasures on earth...I need to remember that each time I look around my place and want to add or replace something. Thanks for the reminder!
This is very relatable and has come at a good time for me to read. Thanks for posting!
I LOVE 'the voice' too ;)
What wonderful bits of your life. Weaning wasn't easy at my house either.
YAY for half marathon training!!! They're quite fun! I did my first a couple of weeks ago and working towards number 2 this fall :) Best of luck with training!! You can do it!
There is no great challenge and joy all wrapped up than parenting. I can't believe how big the kids look in these pictures...too cute. Keep pushing towards your 1/2 marathon goal...you can do it :) I have a little sister who is 12...I'm 34!
I love your photos - especially the first one, of your little boy climbing!
Great post! I know that feeling you have about being torn between this world which is temporary and the things that are eternal. It's so easy to get caught up in the things of this world and forget what's truly important. Sometimes I find blogging a blessing and a curse. It bring so much encouragement but at the same time it makes me want what others have (material stuff). Last thing, good luck with the 1/2 marathon. I've always wanted to train for one. You can do it!
those little hand warmers called "hotties" work wonders for issue #9 I promise. like... 4 kids weaned kind of promise.
ummm wow. all i can thinking about commenting right now is that last photo. i will be pinning it ;) forget all other words right now...
Love reading your lists! :)
You should totally move back to California! That would be awesome!!!
What half marathon are you planning on running? Good for you! And and I thought it was hard without kids!! :)
loved reading your random!! your pics are awesome as always. I'm hooked on "The Voice" too. And you inspire me with your marathon training...way to go!!
I'm glad to see you back on here!!
Ah, I am in love with these photos! Is the last one a pic of the Cooper River Bridge? My family and vacation at Charleston/Folly Beach each Summer and ALWAYS make sure to cross the bridge!
I am just a *tad* bit jealous that ya live in Charleston. I am telling you, it is the most gorgeous place I have ever been to and once I'm a *cough* multi-millionare I am totally living in Battery Park. ^_^
stumbled upon your blog via a friend who does misc monday. what a lovely idea! i may have to join in next monday! isn't it funny how they (whoever "they" are) say that flax seed is an egg substitute. it is sooo not. and i can relate with the half-marathon training with the littles stalking you all day. i'm trying to get back into running and can hardly find 30 minutes to lock myself into the garage.
