miscellany monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

sagey baby celebrated her very first birthday on saturday.  someone told me after she was born, that if i could just make it through the first year of having two kids close in age, i'd be good to go.  well, i'm passing go and i'll take my $200 any day now.  : )  this past year has been joyfully busy, beautifully chaotic, and full of happiness.  i'm tickled pink and completely thankful to be the mommy of a one and two year old.

her hair decided to go all fuzzy and stand-upish on us.  that's what baby's are made of... and yes, she's still my baby.

let's go to the party ~

family family family.  sweet sweet sweet. love love love.  and presents.  what more could you ask for?  cake.

or not.  i thought chubby girls liked cake?  especially pretty pink creamy strawberry frosting atop a devilishly delicious chocolate cake (that happened to be egg free in her brother's honor)?  i was wrong.  she'll learn.

i made a last minute decision at midnight prior to party day to whip up a number one hat.  glad i did.

i went with our tried and true egg-free chocolate cupcake recipe.  and to top it off i chose sprinkles strawberry icing recipe.  best decision of my life especially because i doubled the amount of strawberries it called for.

our camera is so good at taking really terrible, no good, horrible pictures.  it's partially broken and the exposure is all botched up; a date at the repair shop is in my dreams and hopefully the not-so-far-future.  regardless, you get the idea of our party duds.

buckets of bittersweetness... we have travelled to transition city.  with birthdays, come new stages.  from cribs to toddler beds, bottles to sippy cups, car seats to booster like ones, formula to cow's milk and on and on.  this is harder on mama than them.  except for the formula to cow part... little missy is prissy.  i added one ounce (ONE) of cow milk to her formula and she spit it out like the plague.  then i tried cow's milk alone (wishful thinking) and then went to soy.  no, no and more no.  this is going to be a task... good thing i'm up for it.  hunter couldn't have been more thrilled to get in a big-boy bed.  this smile was in between shrills of excitement with repeated exclamations of joy over his new place to sleep ~

and before i get all nostalgic and hormonal teary over my babies getting bigger, let's move on... to girls and their off-white flower doting headbands that are cuter than any hat in England, if i do say so myself.  bias included.  unfortunately, if you want to get a headband like mine you're out of luck... i bought it two years ago... please accept my apologies.  i scored sage's on target clearance for $2.  we have to look alike somehow.  ; )

along with pretty hair pieces, i've been positively enamored by the vintagey comeback of the mason jar.  canning never had so much competition.

meet mason ~

he's the cool kid in school.

mason this.  mason that.  i must admit, he's pretty darn cute.  and versatile too.

if masons were popular seven years ago i so would've sprinkled the jars all throughout our wedding reception using them for as much as possible.  and speaking of our wedding, today is the 7th anniversary of our engagement.  **cue sighs of awww, how sweet**

and rather than ending on a sweet note, i'd like to do you a favor with a caution ~

word for the wise: whatever you do, do not eat a hamburger after 10 pm at night, even if you haven't had a chance to eat much of anything all day.  i must have thought i was still in college or something.

Woah! How did THAT happen?! So hard to believe she's already ONE! Crazy! About as crazy as my firstborn graduating from kindergarten today :( Both my kids shared Sage's reaction to her first birthday cupcake...I'm always so jealous of the cute, smiley smash cake pictures!

Love the headbands and congrats on your engagement anniversary!!

I can't believe she's one already! And it's probably not such a bad thing if she isn't into cake :). That picture captured it perfectly.

Happy Birthday to sweet Sage! I still remember getting the text that she was born -- how could a year have gone by? Time simply speeds up.

I love the pictures. The cake one is fabulous, and a perfect one to reuse later in life. :)

Happy Anniversary!!!

Oh yeah, and you know how I feel about Mason jars. After all, we are the family that uses them as their main glasses to drink from. Ha ha ha...:)

What a cute birthday party and love the mason jars. Happy engagement anniversary, too. Also, 2 children at your children's age is super fun. I do miss those times, though short lived. Now it's 3 for us and it's a different ball game :).

Sage looks so cute and those cupcakes look so yummy! My oldest refused to touch his cake at his first birthday! Try adding a little bit of chocolate or strawberry mix to her milk to get her started drinking it. Once she gets used to it you can cut back or stop adding the flavoring:)

Looks like a fun party!

So, Sage is 1 now ... when is the next one due. :)

My daughter is going to have Mason jars sprinkled all throughout her outdoor wedding in July. Yes. She is. The candles are going to be placed in mason jars filled with coffee beans. The ringbearers are going to carry mason jars filled with candy kisses, with the actual rings sitting atop the kisses. We are a "canning family" (canning 150 quarts of jam a couple of years ago when we had 10 kids still at home). LOVE the looks of canning jar decorations.

Hope your week is BLESSED!

Laurel :)

Thanks for the burger tip. I feel like I have to tell myself not to drink liquids after 10 otherwise I'll be up at night. (I feel so old)

Happy 1 year AND 7 years AND for the big boy bed. Gosh, lots of happy at your place! :) I loved her high chair, cake eating picture. Too cute! Definitely one to show the future beau!

I just found your blog via Rachel at Finding Joy. :) Happy Birthday to your sweet girl! One of my favorite things in life is celebrating my babies and having family to celebrate with! And my little one just transitioned into his big boy bed, too! He is also two. Such a fun stage (yet so tiring sometimes!). Time flies so quickly.

That one will need to go in her wedding montage one day. :o) And, the two of you in your hairbands is just too sweet. Moms and daughters, a special bond for sure. Have a joy filled rest of the week!
