if i were a designer...

... and money grew on the sole tree in my yard, this is how i would design my daughter's room.  heck, i'd probably just redesign our whole house like this, much to my husband's chagrin.  he's never been much interested in pretty, flow-y, flowery, feminine decor.  so this is why i save it all for my girl and her space.

the inspiration began here {thank you s-i-l, cindy!}.  the prettiest looking box that housed some divine lollia flowering willow and lotus shea butter.

i don't think good designers could get away with framing a tube of lotion, but maybe i can?  of course that assumes i'm either a good designer, taking a risk, it paying off, or i am just not a good designer.  i'll opt for the risk-taker approach.  or i could possibly reconstruct this box and turn it into some kind of art.  yeah, that's the ticket.

i'd mix in a blend of rough, rustic and aged - reminiscent of our 1920's piano - set-off with simple, plush, blushing pinks, creamy whites, blooming flowers and a whole lot of airyness.  to create a sort of vintage bohemian rhapsody.

there's something so fine about a rustic woodsy basket mixed with soft and dainty budding blooms.

all of that to create something like this...

or this...

this too...

okay, i'd want this one for myself ~

the rest is all illusory, whimsical and white.  somehow my earth-toned house would morph into all this:

yep, all dreamy and in my designer dreams.  now it's like i've gone shopping without spending a single cent.  internet window shopping is good for your budget and soul.  maybe not the soul part.  but it makes me feel less guilty after wasting thirty minutes on pinterest {thanks a lot, beth}.

you know what else i do in my dreams?  just up and throw picnics like this.  gather a few things - a ladder, a record player - nothing major, bike to the most serene spot and set-up. and then have a fairy-like-tale lunch as my children sit peacefully quiet while they eat all of their food {namely, Hunter}.  dreams are pretty dreamy, indeed.

Yes, yes, and yes. In my dreams my earth tone house would morph into a cottage dream land. Where are you on Pinterest? I need to hunt you down and follow your inspiration.

Yes. that picnic would be divine. The only girly thing i can convince my hubs to have in our bedroom is a flowery red and white duvet cover. if only our men would understand our need for girly pretty things that cost way to much money ;)

Oh, how BEAUTIFUL! I can't convince my husband to embrace my vintageness or my semi-pinkness either. I don't really even LIKE pink, but I would do any of those designs in a heartbeat!

Aw, you are too cute! And I loved the visual richness of all those photos! I "get ya" in all the colors and girly-girl, flowerly, bright, happy stuff!

Which reminds me....you might be interested in a great blanket or a quilt with fabrics similar to what you're wanting for your little girl and if so, please, contact me! I don't recall if you have checked out my newly launched blog where I'm selling my quilts and baby blankets, etc. but here it is http://artisanquilts.blogspot.com

I am all about personalizing my creations and as long as the fabric is available and I know how to make a certain block, etc. then I am happy! And a lovely blanket or quilt would be JUST the thing to set off the rest of your precious daughter's room! :)

Also, giving away a book I read and have the giveaway posted on my blog http://doveofsnow.blogspot.com While there, if you do head over to my quilt site check out the photos . . .there is a brown fabric with lovely, bright, whimsical flowers that totally came to my mind when I saw the photos and such in this post of yours! I think you'd LOVE it! :) Have a blessed day! -- Rachel

i love your taste! those pictures are all fabulous. and yes - that is the cutest save-the-date ever. i also thought my cousin's were fabulous: it was a bookmark that read, "we'll save this page for you if you'll save the date for us."

Love it. There are so many things that I would do -- if time and money flowed freely -- but for now I will be inspired by your beautiful post.

My piano looks like that. Not kidding. My piano is also almost one hundred years old. Not kidding. And holds it's tune very well. Not kidding again. I think that's because it was a piano teacher's piano for over 50 years. Isn't that cool? And ha, I'm not kidding.

Okay. Off to design some fun things. Or at least look around pinterest and be inspired.

Blessings to you, my sweet in real life friend who has to come to minnesota to visit me.

Love ya.

Oh wow! Those are great ideas. I have NO creativity when it comes to decor. Maybe I'll get some whenever we have a little girl. :)

My husband always makes fun of houses where he says it looks like Laura Ashley exploded. :) You have beautiful taste though -- some day when my house gets past the fingerprints and coloring pages adorning every wall stage, would you like to come decorate for me? :)

Never mind, I'll just enjoy this beautiful custom designing courtesy of my children for these few years while it lasts - much to treasure. :)

Blessings to you and your sweet family!
