miscellany monday.

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

1. my grandfather's memorial was perfect.  his life and legacy was celebrated, his gentle and quiet spirit was honored, the Gospel was proclaimed.  and although our love and memories feel frozen in time, our hearts are healing.  my grandpa was a veteran; my grandma was presented with this flag.  today is her birthday and we are going to make her feel all special, like she is.  : )

2. the good thing about forgetting your sunglasses at home is getting a brand new pair, thanks to steve madden's finding their way to keep-your-wallet-happy ross.  oh and can i just say that i'm going to be crushed when big glasses are no longer in?!  because i really am.  they help to offset my larger than average forehead.  if i'm behind the times already, allow me to enjoy the bliss of my ignorance a little while longer.

3. i've been wetting my trader joe's appetite since i've been in the sunny golden state.  there's a brand new one - the very first one in the whole state of south carolina - that just opened a few days ago.  as soon as i get home and make my grocery run this is what will find it's way into my cart first thing:

the sublime chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich.  the cookies are soft and home-made like with creamier than creamery ice cream and tasty, tiny chocolate chips.

4. the bright side of memorials is getting to see family that are normally spread out all over, smack dab in one place.  especially since it's been years and years.

my cousin and her husband have ten beautiful children

my grandma and aunt

my red-headed lil' beauty of a cousin

 more cute cousins

sage and her great-grandma

our living heritage : )

this is hana... she's a real-life baby whisperer.  sage has never been so content with someone besides myself.  i am signing the papers to adopt her n-o-w.

5. when i was little, i thought it was very old-like to talk about the weather. not to mention agitating... i supposed that it was silly to get your panties in a wad over rain or humidity because there was nothing anyone could do to change it. and with that said, like my usual fickle self, i present to you this, because it sums up these days in california better than i can: (call me old-like).

enjoy your monday.  i'm going to soak up these last few days of cool northern cal living.  it will be hard to leave this homeland of mine, but it will be so sweet to be back to my boys.

I have been praying for you this past week. I've been praying that throughout the memorial -- even though it would be hard -- that you would feel the hand of God, His grace, and His love permeate all you did. And these pictures? Beautiful. In fact, an amazing testimony to the gift of family.

Your grandmother looks radiant. You must be so proud of her and love her so deeply.

I love that cousin of yours with ten kids. I'm just saying..... you know, us moms with many kids tend to love those mommas with even more kids. Makes my seven seem small. Kind of.

You will love LOVE love and LOVE Trader Joes. We do. And they have so many great options -- including egg free cookies which are also gluten free which are also AMAZING. And don't last long in my home.

Love the sunglasses. Chloe is wearing a pair that I found wash up in the ocean on that last morning in Hilton Head. I tried them on, but when Amy and Julie loudly laughed after I said, "what do you think?" I knew they just might not be perfect for my face. Ha ha ha.

Love you sweet friend. Keep finding the beauty, the joy, and the realness in life. It's inspiring.

Loved the family photo of the 10 kids... Your grandmother looks so serene. I hope when I'm going through difficult times my faith shines from my face like hers does.

Your Grandpa would have loved the gathering of family...and the love shared at his memorial.

Your Grandma is lovely. And I enjoyed all of the pictures of the "living heritage"...and all of the families and kids.

I would love the cooler Northern Calif. temperatures about now. Kansas has had so many over 100 temps.

Yes, I always thought old people talked about nothing but the weather, their illnesses and surgeries, and their Grandkids. Now I am that ole' Granny! (:>)

What wonderful pictures of your family! Truly angelic beauty to be seen on their faces. Especially your grandmother. So beautiful amidst the sadness I'm sure she feels. I hope you are all healing with the gift of each other. The support of family is always soothing.

PS - You rock those big sunglasses girl!

As of last year, I have no living grandparents, and I think the thing that stuck in my mind most was the tremendous responsibility to pass their godly heritage on to the next generation. All 4 of mine lived such amazing, faithful, godly lives I want that to be reflected in my children and grandchildren as well but that puts a burden on those of us still living!!

So sorry about your grandfather's passing but thankful that he is with his heavenly Father and that He was glorified through the service.

your grandma despite the sadness of the day looked so fresh and happy. great picture of her and everyone. i loved seeing your family. guess that's a perk of a sad event like that...you get to go home. you were rockin' those shades girlie. oh and i adore trader joe's. we have one here but it's 30 or so minutes away. i'm keeping my fingers crossed they build one by me.

Beautiful photos, and it sounds like a lovely memorial. I was just commenting on another blog the other day that the most beautiful thing about death is that there is hope. Those who have accepted the Lord will be with him, and that's comforting even though death is obviously so hard.
That cookie thing looks so yummy!!! I've never been to Trader Joe's, but it seems like it's everyone's favorite place to go.

Soak up the weather here, my friend. Enjoy it with those awesome sunglasses of yours! :) (if big glasses are out, I'll be the first to tell you, I had no idea. Completely out of the loop!)
