miscellany monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

1. my roots.
i've long called myself a boho girl... i like to dress slightly hippie - or as much as this traditional southern charmy place will allow - do pretty much nothing to my hair, wear almost nothing as far as jewelry goes - minus some big chunky wood earrings - my nails and toenails go polish-less most always always and i'm not much into frills.  my daughter does wear dresses on sundays, though.  so i do get some credit.  you know it's especially a big day if she has a bow in her hair, too. anyways, back to me.  ha!  come to find out, my hometown paper is called the north bay bohemian.  it all makes sense now.  i knew there had to be something to explain the flower child in me.

2. the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
keeping in line with her momma, sage is looking pretty good in her boho dress, if i must say.  i want one in my size.

3a. this momma of mine.
had a birthday last week and i always say that i was her best birthday gift ever since i was born the day before her birthday.  so, it's like all presents from then on have kind of gone downhill.  i mean, it went from happy birthday and happy baby, too, to happy birthday, here's a gift card.  ; )  anyway, it was a big milestoney birthday... i won't tell you her age, although she is only a few years away from discount zone.  even so, you'd never know it.  if we're out and about people think my one and two year old belong to her!  let's hope this apple doesn't fall far from her tree, too.

3b. speaking of last week.
i received a big box stuffed full of thoughtful stuff. lea, is so giving and sweetly sent me a goodie box for my birthday.  i mean, hello, generosity!  she remembered my past obsession with a howel and sent me a new pair. my hippie (cool codeword for slightly unkept) hair is screaming thank you on the top of it's lungs.

4. not kidding.
i'm switching from boho and putting on my cowboy hat.  i scored these handmade 100% genuine leather cowboy boots from Goodwill for $4.  $4.  wait, are you paying attention?!  because $4 is unheard of.  i've wanted real boots for a long time but could never, ever, not in a million years justify spending over a hundred dollars (at least!) on a pair of shoes.  all i can say is that good things come to those who wait and to those who shop at Goodwill.

5. reunited and it feels so good.
my man and i have spent twenty-six out of the last thirty-five days apart.  i'm glad the travelling is over with for awhile.  summers are more fun when you can be with your loved on ones. i've never been so over-the-moon to see an empty suitcase.

Happy Birthday to your sweet momma! I remember when I met her -- and you're right -- she looks like she could be your sister. You both look so young and fabulous! and bohemian.....

I'd totally wear that dress that Sage has as well. Love the pattern. And, good for you, for having her wear a dress on Sunday. Love it.

Yeah for unpacked suitcases. That's how I felt almost all of July. Between Woodland and South Carolina I simply was not home much.

And, I must echo your sentiments about Lea -- such an incredibly kind heart and sweet lady. She has blessed our family in such lovely ways. I love that she remembered those cool towel thingies that you love.

And finally, the cowboy beats are an incredible score. Good things happen to those who wait. :)

Have a wonderful monday. Love you dear friend.

Rachel
(who, by the way, set her alarm...hee hee hee)

Wow, that's a long time for you to be apart from your husband (though I suppose it could be worse- can't imagine how people do it for months on end). The bohemian thing? I don't do it on purpose, but I'm the same way. Maybe I'm just a lazy slob :D. Sometimes I wish I were more girly, but it's just not me.

Can I get a huge hurrah for Goodwill:-) It takes time but there are so many great things to be found there! Congrats on the boots...you are too cute! And a huge Happy Birthday to you! Having your hubby back home was probably the best present for you huh:-)

four bucks?! score of the year. :)

First of all, understand your style completely. Hippie clothes just happen to be my favorite style...not super hippie...but somewhere in the middle! Glad you are back with your husband again...that is a long time to be apart. And I LOVE the cowboy boots. My sister scored some pretty similar ones at her Goodwill...Second hand shopping is the way to go but it definitely means waiting for that perfect thing to come along.

Eeeek, those boots! Really there's nothing else to say..but amazing. And your mom is so beautiful and looks so youthful...love it. :)

I totally agree with you on the boho style except that I think mine extends from not wanting to buy into the latest trends or spend alot on clothes so it just turns into my style. ha!

Hope you had a great birthday!

$4 for cowboys boots that is awesome!!!

You have a beautiful mama!!! And hurray for good deals at Goodwill or wherever they can be found. We find good deals through our Boutique (FREE!) but I have to be more patient and do this more often!

Cute cowboy boots! I'm from TX and the style is a little bit preppy south mixed with big hair big jewelry. I love Texas, but I lived in Seattle just after I finished college, and I feel in love with the west coast vibe! It's much different--very laid-back, less fuss. I adore your north bay bohemian style. So glad you and your husband are back together. That was a long time to be apart.

1. Your mom looks amazing...if she's really close to 'discount' age, yikes, you'd never be able to tell.
2. Boots..boots look amazing (word for the day) $4 is unheard of and they're already broken in for you, score!
3. Love the turbie twists. I have one myself and find them...amazing (yup) Far superior to the towel.

That concludes the use of the word for the day.

I just *heart* your posts, Carissa! You're cute as a button and so is your family, including your beautiful mom! I am sure you will take after her in great looks for a loooooong time! :) Love all your deals and your bday gifts! And happy belated birthday! Summer girls are just the best, aren't we?!? ;)

I understand the "boho" thing as well as the "flower child"...funny, but my family used to jokingly call me that! Long hair blowing loosely in the wind, little to NO makeup, dresses and skirts and very little jewelry beside a necklace once in a while! And I never, ever painted my nails since like age 6 until this last year....I paint my toenails in the summer/warmer months! haha :) I like to think I'm "all natural." Pretty much am! Have a blessed day!

i just love your blog. every time i read it, it brings a smile to my face. i happen to do nothing to my hair as well...wash it, just brush it {sometimes} and let it air dry :) i love it...it's easy. oh and happy belated birthday to your momma and...your daughter is precious!!

chelsea {joy} said...

oh shoot...and i knew i forgot to comment about something. the boots...i love them! so jealous that you got them for such a good deal. forget the malls {i don't need to be spending that kind of money anyway}, i think i'm going to just try thrifting for a while :)

Lea also known as "CiCi" said...

Oh, how sweet you are to give me "shout" on your blog. Made my day! :o)

And, that Sage is just too precious! And, your Mom definitely could pass for your sister.

Wish I was a little more free spirited in regards to hair and makeup. But, guess after all these years, it's unlikely I'll ever change. It just takes a whole lot of time to be a "girly girl." :o)

Always enjoy stopping by! Hugs!

I would like one in my size as well. Thanks. And that is a LONG time to be away from you man. Too long. Your mom is purty!

Happy belated birthday to your beautiful, Mama! Hope you got her genes! Lea? Hands down one of the most thoughtful, generous people I have ever crossed paths with. Love her dearly! Glad you and hubby are back together for a while :) Happy Monday (I'll wish it to you again later today, too, haha!) xoxo
