the thing about it is...

there's an abundance to be thankful for.  so many sweet gifts poured out straight from the hand of Jesus for me.  and you.  little glimpses of His graces in our everyday day to day's are sweet glimmers reflecting the love God has for us.  the thing about it is... it's not the end of the road.  these gifts, while they point to the greater reality of mercies, they do not fulfill.  our hope, joy, peace, meaning, significance does not rest in any thing.  and while it's good to be thankful, we need to find in Him, our being. and not in all the gifts.

because what happens if every earthly thing is stripped away?  all we have is Christ.  which is really all we have anyway.  we just can't see that reality with so many distractions.

the sweet grace that pours from Christ's painfully severe death on the cross covers our wretchedness.  for christians, this reality is our lifeblood.  it's the crux on which everything in our lives rest.  it breeds hope, joy, grace, peace, forgiveness, healing, and more.  it keeps me thinking eternally rather than in the ups and downs of my wavering feelings. and reminds me to give thanks more for the Giver Himself than just the good gifts.

thanks for listening as i remind myself of these things. : )

I needed to read these words desperately today. Thank you for reminding me that even in the ugliness that this world can bring, our Lord and Savior is lovely as always.

Wonderful post! Thank you, thank you, thank you :)

what a beautiful post and a great reminder that it isn't all the gifts and stuff we have at the end of the day it is GOD that we have and that we need....it's GOD that we need on our side...I know I couldn't imagine going thru what I am going thru without GOD on my side. When I did my IVIG treatment in hosp. 2 weeks ago our pastor came and prayed for me before it started and the biggest comfort came over me for I knew I had GOD on my side and he to said he couldn't imagine not having GOD on his side. The pics of the flowers add such a serine nice touch

Thanks for that reminder, today. I think sometimes we so often see those blessings as our relationship with the Lord instead of actually being active in a relationship with him. It's also easy to try to "gauge" our relationship with Him based on those daily material blessings, when in reality, even if they are stripped away, His love remains and He is worthy of praise.

Love the flowers- they're just beautiful.

Yes! Beautiful photos but even more lovely words!

So, so true ... and just yesterday it broke my heart, yet again, to see others who claim to be Christians, but all they see is temporal, all they seek is material, and they have lost even loved ones in their dogged pursuit of "things." It's awful and it keeps me praying I will never lose sight of what truly matters through and in Jesus!

Stop by my blog sometime soon if you want! I posted a thoughtful post today. You might like it. :)

That was a great reminder that all we need is Christ. And a great way to open a door to someone who doesn't quite understand what all that means.

And yes, flowers DO go with everything. :)

So true Carissa! Just yesterday a friend had posted "what's up with all of these sicknesses and distractions" and then he suggested that the devil has looked in our future to see the wonders God has for us and is doing everything he can to keep up from that focus. I am trying to remember to keep my eyes on Jesus as the storm surrounds, and learn from Peter who began to sink when he looked away.
