i told you there would be a shower post a comin' so in tune with my words, here it is, as promised.
for the record, if you don't have within your possession some good photo editing software, you should not take pictures in raw. it's like i thought i was going to go all professional on you or something. secondly, for some not known to me reason, as i uploaded my raw pictures to picnik it turned them into atrocities. if you know what my problem is, please explain. i mean, i kind of know, but i'm kind of bitter about it too. so then i converted the images to jpeg files and then they looked worse. oh well. amidst my blood, sweat, and tears, i present to you, my much-less-than-perfect pictures.

i am sure you are aware of the delightful re-purposing to be had with goodwill purchased picture frames, a teaspoon of elbow grease and a half of a can of spray paint, to create a bright, vintage-inspired chalkboard. it really is all it's cracked up to be. example 1 and 2:
***idea alert: i don't think i created this idea; i'm sure i saw it somewhere, but i've always had a sign-up sheet for the guests to put down their name and email address to bring the family a meal after the baby is born. that way there's no hunting down information when there are hungry mouths waiting to be fed. also, mealbaby is the greatest site for creating meal registries.
next to the aqua chalkboard cuteness, sits the darling little favor lollipops doting a big thank you. because nothing says thanks for coming like a lolli... or something like that.
when in shower decor doubt, always put flowers in a mason jar. there's no going wrong here.
diaper cakes make beautifully useful centerpieces. (made by this girl)
you also have to throw a banner in the mix to keep things real pretty. (made by diaper cake girl, beth)
and then there's the mouth-watering, not-tight-tummy-flattering, food. the oh-so-right menu included:
cinnamon cream cheese bars
chocolate and strawberry cupcakes
home-made pimento cheese spread
pumpkin butter atop goat cheese with crackers
pasta caprese
fresh fruit skewers
(all made, courtesy of this girl and her momma. who not-so-happens to be the honoree's sister and momma)
i hunted down some robin egg's blue plates along with some perfectly colored napkins ~
my favorite part of the whole shower:
i'll say it again: mason jars make everything better. especially when there's teal and white bitty paper straws involved...
three amigas: me, julie (the baby momma), beth
this is me telling them: i want a candid picture; so just act normal. it kind of worked.
julie's momma (the food maker), julie, julie's sister, ashley (the other food maker)
and that wraps it up, folks.
i love showers, i really do. i also like when they are over... memories are made, pictures are taken, the loot is captured, and the nerves of hoping everything will come together have expired. : ) have you showered lately?

Great job- The meal sign up is such a good idea! I just had my first baby two months ago, and our church family organized dinners for us for 2 whole weeks! I think that was probably the best gift we got, and we got some good'uns.
BTW, this is my first comment, but I've been enjoying your blog for a few weeks. Keep it up!
ooh, how beautiful! the decorations are so whimsical! :)
much love,
~bree
Beautiful. I love the mason jars with paper straws. My sister-in-law just had a shower and the host did the same thing. So cute. I have not showered lately but last year I did a few (baby and wedding)and loved every single one! However, I am a total perfectionist about stuff like that and stress out way too much.
Those straws!!!!
Amazing decor, looks beautiful.
Sorry about camera RAW issue, it can be frustrating if you don't have the compatible software. Unfortunately, you need a program to open the file in, to finish processing the image before it becomes a .jpg image. A raw image is easily comparable to negatives in the film days... basically, it's an unfinished image - which is typically the positive side to using RAW, unless you don't have the software.
I don't know if you have a Mac or PC, but I know that on my Mac I am able to edit RAW photos on iPhoto. Sorry for the long comment, and hopefully this is somewhat helpful for you.. the photos still look great!!!
awww. how sweet :) love showers. i'm throwing a wedding shower in...ummmm, 10 days! gulp!! soo not ready!
i have NOT showered lately...ha! i'm am at the stage in life where i don't get the pleasure of attending many baby showers or weddings. can't even remember the last one i went to. sad! yours was lovely:)
Okay, I may be 54 but you have made me want another baby so I can have a shower like this one! Maybe I can convert it into a birthday party one. Love the decor. I am totally impressed. One thing I have got to know is where you got the paper straws. I have scoured stores around here for years for paper straws and can't find any. Please email me your source to mamawsplace@gmail.com if you can. Thanks. Again, awesome shower.
Dear Martha,
And yes, I know your name is Carissa (who is my dear in real life friend), but you are also mirroring the creativity and design savvy of Martha Stewart (and are much wiser.) This shower looks amazing. Simply beautiful and breathtaking. Of course, I love the Mason Jars as I am a HUGE Mason Jar lover.
Your casual picture is great. I love how your friend Beth looks deep in thought. And Julie? She looks fabulous!
Martha, I need to have more of your crafty and DIY tips. I might have to have you add this as a regular feature on your blog -- you inspire me to be creative and reuse some of the treasures that are lurking in my home.
Oh yes, and camera in RAW? Hannah's shot that way and sigh -- it's a nightmare. At least for us. You are not alone.
love ya, Carissa (had to put your name there again just so your other commenters know that I really do know your name. ha ha ha)

Great job with the shower details! I love the thought you put into it and I'm sure your friend felt blessed to have such a beautiful shower!
That is a very sweet shower...I love all of the details. No, you can never go wrong with a mason jar...they are the best. That is a great idea too to have a sign up sheet.
What a beautiful shower! I love the straws and the mason jars! The sign up for meals is a wonderful idea too!
You did a great job! And I love the mason jars + striped straws. Fabulous shower.
Carissa, these ideas are so wonderful! Thank you for sharing them! I must also mention, that your picture-taking skills are awesome. Really.
What a beautiful shower!
i want to throw a baby shower SO BAD & use all your tips!! :)
Everything looks beautiful, Carissa! The color scheme is gorgeous and those straws -- oh, yes. :)

beautiful details! and you're so right. you can't go wrong with mason jars.
Love the decor--SO cute! Mason jars have become my new favorite thing. How did you put a chalkboard in the frames? I so want to do that!!
I gave a shower this weekend too. And I invited several people who take better pictures than me though we all have big, fancy cameras. Guess what? We all forgot our cameras. But we had fun showering a sweet friend anyway!
I have not showered lately...literally and baby shower-ee. hehe
I have to agree..mason jars make everything just right. Loving all the decorations and food and especially the candid shot. You nailed that one. ;)
As far as the RAW shooting...I only shoot in jpeg and am happy w/it. I have photoshop elements and I found out I can actually convert to raw to 'tweek' pictures, but I don't have skills yet, so jpeg is fine and dandy w/me.

ps...I'm going to be showering in the next 30 minutes. I know you were wondering. ;)
gorgeous pictures and decorations. love it!
Love the little details. So cute.
Lol- the candid shot is sooo funny to me- I was joking of course and Julie looks just as stressed about it as she actually was.
It was a great shower! Thanks so much again! Beth's comment is funny! I was stressed about it! It's hard to look candid!
Such a lovely shower! You did a wonderful job with the decor + pictures as well. (and ps. I don't shoot in raw. I know, I know. I should, but my laptop does NOT have that kind of memory. ha! ;)
Love it!
You are like my hero for posting this!! My sister is having a baby girl in Dec. and I'm throwing her shower in November...these are just great ideas! Thanks, I'm bookmarking this!!
Really beautiful Carissa, makes me wish I had a shower to throw! And your unedited pictures are still awesome, they beat mine any day of the week.
Have a great weekend!
Everything looked so beautiful. And your pictures are amazing!
What a beautiful job. And a beautiful mom-to-be also. I wish her a safe and easy delivery. Your "less than perfect pictures" look much better than mine ever do! lol.
That looks like the perfect party! Love the decorations. They are so creative!
