miscellany monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

1. best $15 consignment purchase yet... a little girl's pink patagonia jacket for my little girl.  i want one in my size and for $15.

2. if i had an entire day to do whatever i wanted for leisure, it would include sitting outside, reading page after glorious page of all the books on my to-read list.  right now i'm about to finish Grace for the Good Girl, 11 Secrets of Getting Published, and will start on these below.  so much to read and such little time.  also, if you are looking for a devotional book, buy Morning and Evening.  i always come away challenged by the Truth in Spurgeon's words.

3. you're going to think i've gone crazy on you.  kelly says i am representing my home state (california) quite well with this one.  chia seeds.  ever heard of them?!  five hundred years ago (so i am told) these seeds were a staple in the Aztec diet.  they called it their running food, because a handful of these seeds provides enough energy to run all day.  i am a runner, training for a half marathon; why not give them a try?  my step-dad ordered this superfood (which is exceptionally funny, since he is the least earthy food type person evah!) and gave me a week's supply to try.  i do feel energized and i think they could be possibly working.  yes, before you ask, these are the seeds used to grow those hairy chia pet creatures (have i lost all credibility yet?).  check out the low-down to see if you're convinced.

4. since i told you last week about Charleston's status as the #1 spot in the U.S., voted by Conde Nast, we figured we should venture downtown to enjoy it.

it is pretty with palm trees on the streets, next to the southern colonial feel of the buildings and charleston row houses.

then we picnicked in the comfortable square of the park.

and then we moved on to things like figuring out how to hold hands.

since he had her by the hand, he was trying to make her jump on command.

attempting a try at hide and go seek.

it was a simple, laid back, downtown kind of time.  i'm starting to like those kinds best.

chai seeds, I have heard of them and seen them and have been tempted to buy them. Then I was diverted by hemp hearts, I guess I'll need to try out the chai seeds. What Mom can't use more energy?!

I have never heard of eating chia seeds for energy...although with this crazy race that I have coming up, I am thinking it would be a good idea to invest in some!!! Definitely need some extra energy to get through it!!!! So where does one purchase these seeds???

I am trying to link up again and it isn't working. I am not sure why I can never link up. I do on all blogs. Would anyone know why? I have tried three times. I know it says it takes a few minutes but my link never appears.

that little patagonia is precious :)

and the chia seeds have me intrigued... i'm always searching for ways to get energized, other than guzzling entire pots of coffee...

Sage's outfit is adorable!

Okay. Do you sing the chia pet song while you're eating those seeds? As soon as I read about you eating them moments flashed back to my childhood where I'd see commercials for Chia Pets with super duper smiley children working with their grinning father to smear chia seeds onto their prized porcelian chia pet. And then, like magic, the pet grew hair. I mean grass...

Yep. Now, you are reminded, again, of when I grew up. Unless, do they still make those Chia pets? At least they're better than the pet rocks....

Your book list is impressive. I'm going to have to get a couple of those to try and read on the plane. Who am I kidding? I'll be sitting on the plane, white-knuckled, and staring out the window wanting to be on ground again.

Your children are adorable. I know I've said it numerous times, but I'm just reiterating it this morning. And I cannot believe how much Sage has grown since I saw you in July. Crazy!!

Blessings my Chia seed eating friend.

Love ya.

Rachel

My Mom and Dad have done the chia seed thing for energy during specific diets and such, I've heard a lot of good things about them!

I reaaaaly want to read Grace for the Good Girl!

Your babies are precious, love the pics of them holding hands. The bond between brother and sister is something I'm enjoying watching. You know, when they aren't totally pestering eachother and all. Ha! Have a great week. :)

I have officially added Charleston to my list of places to visit! Oh my...those pictures are amazing. The kids are so cute together. I need to order Grace for the Good Girl...I love to read. I hope you have a wonderful week :)

Jessica @ This Blessed Life said...

yup, i love them - have them in my fridge! didn't realize they were a source of energy, though - i just know that they are packed with nutrients! i toss them into smoothies or on top of oatmeal with all the other crunchy stuff i'm eating. :) you can also use them as an egg sub (like flax) in baking!

Brittany said...

Wow it really is gorgeous there!

I have Grace for the Good Girl in my to-read stack. I'm trying to finish the 5 or so other non-fiction books I'm attempting to read at the moment. They vary from Christian themed to novel writing/publishing themed.

They are all so good that I can't chose one over the other! I'm looking forward to reading Grace for the Good Girl, though. I keep hearing incredible things.

As for chia seeds... if it works, it works. haha

Chia seeds huh?? I am gonna have to look into those.

I decided to run a half marathon in June. I've never run more than a 5k...but my hubby is doing the full and our friends are going....sigh.
It's in San Diego, it's the Rock and Roll one.
I better pay quick before I chicken out.
