there once was a boy named john, after his daddy.
everyone calls him by his middle name.
to the world he is Hunter.
calm, compassionate, tells his mommy sorry about ten times a day even though he has nothing to apologize for. he's tender like that, never wanting to offend.
his parents thought they really must have this parenting thing down.
it's not so hard after all. what are all the other parent's talking about?!
until this brother had a sister.
her name is Sage.
she is more often spicy than sweet.
to say this feisty gal is attached to her mama is a complete understatement.
she even still (she is 16 months) likes to cry most of the time in the nursery on Sunday mornings.
her dimply smile, though, will cut through all the rest and melt your very heart.
but the cool thing is?
Hunter's parents love her just as much as they love him.
they are both their parent's favorites. their love is based simply on the fact that these are their children.
kind of like our relationship with the Heavenly Father.
He loves us not based on our merits or behaviors.
he doesn't love us more if we're like Hunter and less if we're like Sage.
this is really good news.
"See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are..." 1 John 3:1

SO very true. :) And as a side note (and this is not meant to offend anyone) but, I feel parents of 1 child, and parents of children who are way apart in age, just don't get "it" like those of use with more than one born close together! It is a whole new ballgame when #2 arrives. :)
Precious! I can't wait until we have another baby for many reasons, but one is that I simply can't wait to see how alike and/or different other children will be from Ellington!
Ya'll have a great weekend!
My son goes by his middle name too. I love that we are loved without conditions.
I LOVE this! I think the Lord keeps us on our toes with our kids -- just like you said -- when we get one figured out another arrives or another phase happens. It's amazing how each of my kiddos is different and yet I can love them all the same. That is a gift from God, that love.
You are a beautiful writer and you see life through such a beautiful lens.
Ha -- and I LOVE that first picture of Sage. Perfect personality capture.

your in real life friend
you thinks you're just as amazing.
Looooove this, so much. So true! And I think our children are twins. Although my sweet, tenderhearted boy is getting more 'spicy' as he gets closer to three. Oh my granny, someone hold me. ;) LOVE that first picture of Sage, she's sassy in the cutest of ways!
How true! I love reading about Hunter and Sage-y. :)
Love,

I think it's so funny when people start out with their easy child and then get a more difficult child...ours was the other way around! My oldest is SUPER "spicy" which makes my younger two seem so much easier to parent!
this is SO precious! <3
you have the most gorgeous little ones. =)
i can relate! esp the spicy girl part haha
love love love the first photo of sage...u must frame
Your children are ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!!! Those pictures of Sage made me laugh...you can totally see the attitude in that little face! So cute. :)
That is amazingly good news!!! I have a "Hunter" and a "Sage" too...both my favorites. I love those pictures of your little ones and their sweet cheeks :)
This is so true...our 2 girls are SO different. Our first is as sweet as can be. Then came our 2nd girl, I thought they would be the same...wow..was I wrong! Sassy, spicy & sneaky most of the time. But we love her just the same :)
Amen Sister. Great post, adorable kids and I really needed that! :)
Great post Carissa! The pics of your kids are sooo beautiful. I swear I don't know how you parent those two with those sweet faces, I would be mush all day :)
haha and yes good news indeed! ; )
So sweet. My mom told me that I (the 4th child) would NOT let go of her forever. It drove her bonkers how much I wanted to be held and held onto her. But you know what, now? I'm their favorite. bahaha
But, bringing it back to God...I love that He loves us all regardless.

aww, love it girl :) i've got myself a firecracker as well!
Good News indeed!
it IS something how each child is SO different!!! i'm learning that too!
i like to think that first picture of Sage speaks volumes!!! :) precious!
This is a good word! What a fabulous analogy!
Your sweet post reminds me of this St.Augustine quote "God loves each of us as if there were only one of us." Something to celebrate for sure! Blessings to you and yours! (Visiting from http://www.flowingfaith.com)
i certainly understand having a spicy little girl! Am looking forward to having two and understanding how you can love two little people equally.
my hubs fam goes by their middle names except anyone who met them after they were teenagers. they wanted to go by their given name... people get sooo confused. its funny to think of hunter as john because he looks like a hunter. that pic of sage? so cutte. of course.
i have 3 kiddos and my 2nd one was spicy and my baby who came 7 years later is a mix of the 2 girls. i love each of them beyond words but each differently. each is different and their needs are different. the measure is the same the way i show it is different. i wonder if god is like that or if we are all the same.
love the last part of the verse
""and so we are"
its so easy, why do we make it so hard?
Carissa, it's so funny how with us it was the same way!! Tiago is sweet and was such an easy baby. Larissa is the opposite! When she was born she came out crying so hard the pediatrician who examined her told Marcos "this one knows what she wants!" I couldn't even feed her like I did Tiago when he was born because she just would not stop crying! I would look around at the nurses wondering if there was something wrong with her...like if it was normal for her to be crying so much! Well, she didn't change much! :) She loves crying, screaming, and driving us crazy. We have to be a lot more worried about parenting techniques with her because if we don't...will be sorry later! :)
Love the pictures of kiddos. Ms. Sage sure has personality! And I love how God loves us all for our uniqueness! Have a beautiful week.
Your pictures really tell the story perfectly.
It is the good news indeed. To be loved just right and perfectly by our Lord.
Thank you for a story that just brings joy to the spirit.
hi friend! sorry i haven't been by in a very long while. i seem to check out from cyberworld right around mid year and it seems to happen every year. family life just gets so full with vacations then school starting, work, and with all of the busyness my time gets sucked away so quickly leaving not much time for blog reading and posting.
no life group tonight so i'm doing a little catching up on some of my favorite blogs. the babies are getting oh so big and oh so cute they are! what a blessing!
take care!
xo,
alely
I've said it before and I'll say it again, "you have such a gift of writing." Sage and Hunter are just precious, you capture them so beautifully in your pictures. This brought a smile to my face and to my heart. Hugs to you!
