2011: the year i bought a cardigan.

ever since i entered the beautiful world that is motherhood, my wardrobe has taken the back seat... and i'm talking the back seat of an extra long stretchy greyhound bus.  i'd rather have to buy diapers since it means i have babies, so i'm totally cool with it.  speaking of stretchy.  when i was pregnant with Hunter in the winter, i had the brilliant idea of wearing all my normal clothes.  it made me feel better to say they weren't maternity and i wasn't spending money on usually ugly and overpriced items at Motherhood Maternity.  i do think that Target and their Liz Lange line isn't half bad, but even those prices are pricey for Target.  needless to say, my winter wardrobe is years old and could fit the size of a full-term pregnant mama.

i had to revitalize my closet, without spending nearly any money.  i had to figure out how to wear my spring and summer clothes winter style.  the white long sleeve shirt under everything works for some things, but a few of you kindly told me it should not go under dresses and i believed you.

what to do?!  cardigan to the rescue!  if only i had gone down this avenue years ago.  for some reason, in my immaturity, i thought cardigans spelled g-r-a-n-d-m-a.  but i take it back.  i really do.  thank you Old Navy Outlet, and my 20% off coupon (thanks, Beth!) i scored myself an off-white cardigan for $11.

i'm telling you, i wear it like nothing else.  wanna wear a tank in november?  sure, grab the cardy.  wanna wear a sundress in the fall?  you betchya, pull on the cardy and secure it with a belt.  wanna act like a fashionista even though you're a mama in disguise?  layer up!  revitalized, i tell you.

my sister, remember she's 11, took the pictures above (which is why they're slightly off-focus).  after i set up the camera, i gave her a two second hold the button down until it beeps tutorial.  then we swapped places and i took her pictures.  we're such girls.

hannah: i thought of you when i took this.  : )

i might have to borrow her scarf. : )

what's your go-to winter-time wardrobe item?

  2. I would say sweaters. Like cardigans but longer ones. I love sweaters and I think they are the latest trend not for grandmas anymore!

  3. I love your cardigan. I can see where you would get tons of uses from it. By the way, your little sister is a living doll. My go to piece of clothing is my red sweater. It was a $40 sweater I got on sale at JC Penny's about 3 years ago. With jeans, it is so casual and comfy looking. But add it to a skirt or a pair of dress pants and it becomes very elegant and ritzy. I would be lost without my favorite red sweater.

  12. For Christmas I asked for clothes from Justin...and that is all. I am like you. I went searching for my clothes in our shed (after having Elinor and happily ditching the maternity clothes) and found half a container, I searched fora bout another 30 minutes for more. Then I realized I only had half a container of clothes...half of which I threw away. Needless to say my few Christmas purchases are going to be so fun to wear...cannot wait:) I wear cardigans almost every day...yesterdays was white and MOndays was black:)

  13. I love big and bulky sweaters. I look like the Michelin man, but I feel toasty in them.

  14. love it when I read how other Mom's wardrobes are lacking......I keep telling myself its a stage, but every time I go shopping for myself I'm reminded that the kids need things like diapers and food and pants to replace the torn ones :) sigh, although it does make those few purchases VERY exciting:)

  16. Love the pictures of you, you are beautiful! And that scarf, I think I need to go find one and buy it. Although I'm sure once I find one I'll put it in the cart then at last minute decide I really don't need it because kid a, b, or c needs something more important.

My winter wardrobe right now is still my maternity clothes. Ok, my youngest is only 2 weeks...but I refuse to build up my wardrobe until I'm happy with where I am. So, until then....it's tanks and sweaters that my mom (thankfully!!) bought me.

  25. Adorable! I am such a cardigan girl, although, like you, I used to think sweaters were the mark of ugliness. No joke.

  27. Look at you workin' it!! Work it girl!!

You really are one hot momma, and its ok to think of yourself that way. ;)
I still go up and down on cardies. Some are nice but some I think old lady. I don't think I own one yet myself and I don't really have that go to thing for the winter... I don't have a lot of winter stuff, myself.

  29. Looks like I need to go cardigan shopping! You are gorgeous, I never would have guessed that your wardrobe was lacking. I pretty much buy all my clothes at Target because with two kids that's just about the only place I make it...and that's still a good 20-30 minute drive from where we live. (and no, I dont live in the sticks, just a small town that Target hasn't discovered yet!) Anywho, love my down vest, Uggs, and sweat pants. Not necessarily worn together, but not against that look either, lol :)
