1. thanksgiving has officially ended since i ate the last of the green bean casserole last night - yeah, the usual cream of mushroom soup kind with french's crispy onions and canned green beans; when something is a classic, why change it?! besides i really like it. - the good thing is, i can still wear all of my clothes. our day was full of fun, family, food, and most of all - thankfulness to Jesus for the gift of life everlasting! ps. please don't look too closely at my last minute banner that took all of two minutes. no pinterest needed here!
my bro, grandmother and my sis
my aunt, grandmother and me
2. our feast was delicious and included my favorites - mashed potatoes and candied yams. i made these sugar coma-inducing treats with homemade hot caramel drizzled on top. one bite was enough to settle your sweet tooth for an entire week.
homemade caramel is almost sinful.
3. my gross children continue their gross trends. for the first time, we had poop smeared and splattered all over the carpets after Hunter decided to take off his diaper to be like a big boy. the best part? i was at the grocery store while this took place. my man had the duty of cleaning up the poopie. poor daddy. i love you, babe.
4. for the first and last time, i stood in line on black friday. (the whole go out and buy as much as you can for as cheap as you can mentality sort of completely ruins the mentality of the day of Thanksgiving prior, you know?!) anyways, the sales sucked me in this year... i waited outside of Target (big surprise!) for an hour and then inside the store at the check-out line for close to two. all that to get our family a Christmas tree. our budget was $20 and i preferred to get something more than a foot tall. i got a 6.5 footer, pre-lit tree at half price for $30. my mom threw in $10 to keep me within budget. thanks mom. : )
5. i'd totally rather have a real tree. but fakies do last longer to save you money. i don't mind not having to clean up needles or do extra watering. call me lazy or efficient.
6. my daughter, she's 17 months old, knows how to play the fruit ninja game on my phone. i don't know whether to be proud or embarrassed. ps. i love you Sage and find you entirely adorable still.
7. this was the night we kept our one and two year old up until 10 pm all in the name of visiting one of the top ten Christmas light shows in the U.S. at James Island County Park. everyone was so happy. ; )
aunt cheryl, me holding sage, melanie, hunter being held by my mom, and my grandma. kelly was brave to come out with all us women. he's taking the picture.
8. so this is what i look like while talking. i'm flattered. (shannan, i'm waiting on my membership to the claw-hand club.)

oh... that caramel looks delicious. i might have to make myself some of that. like i didn't already have enough deserts this weekend!
What is it about green bean casserole? I'm the same as you - love it - especially w/ a heap of mashed potatoes. Talk about carb overload.
And, hurray, for husbands who occasionally fill in even when it's a less than pleasant job. John changes very few diapers (and I"m perfectly fine w/ that!), but when he does he always has to point out "You wouldn't BELIEVE the diaper I had to change" -- as if the diapers are never bad the 98% of the time that I change them. :) I tease him because he'd rather use a porta-potty at the construction site than change a baby's diaper :)
Have a great week!!
Mmm, nothing like poop covered carpet...
Sounds like your Christmas tree was a good deal. I think we'll enjoy having a real tree while the kids are young, but it will be nice to have a fake pre-lit one eventually. Especially since I spent hours putting 8 strings of lights up to cover our tree this weekend!
Oh, wish you lived nearby and I would have given you the tree we've used the past two years, a 7' Slimline, prelit. I've got with an even smaller one this year. It's just time, I'm tired. :o)
Our 35 year old son did the whole poop thing when he was about that same age. It was a Sunday morning and we were trying to get out the door for church. Ugh! Some things you never forget. :o)
Looks like lots of wonderful memories were made with your family. Happy week to you!
We had a real tree our first Christmas in the States and our cats thought it was a giant water bowl just for them ;)
The caramel looks amazing, as do you ... hands and all!
Thank you for hosting, I have linked up three weeks now and have to tell you, its my fav meme to read thro an just love all of the pictures and beautiful heartfelt posts!
(Rachel of Finding Joy turned me onto you, and you are as delightful as she is!)
I think the banner is sweet! Much better than what I would have thrown together in such short time. I've never had homemade caramel...I'm not thinking I should try it, looks addictive! I dread potty training my youngest. Poopy on the carpet-ugh! Love the joys of motherhood. Have a great weekend!
There you go again, making me smile :)
Black Friday isn't so much my thing, but I went to the mall on Black Saturday, and I've decided to do it every year! The sales are still great, but the crowds aren't bad. I only had to wait in line a couple of times.
xoxo

p.s. you are so beautiful! and I love the earrings you're wearing in the "talking" picture.
Love the banner. I agree there is nothing better than green bean casserole. You're a brave woman to stand in those crazy lines but congrats on getting a super cheap tree.
I just think you're the best. Really.
I love that you stood in line for that tree. And that your sweet mom chipped in the rest -- my mom would have done that too -- that's the kind of momma I want to be. :)
And your hubby? What a guy! Those type of "accidents" are the worst. Absolute worst. I came home grumpy once from the store and couldn't figure out why Todd was irritated because I was grumpy. Well, you guessed it -- one of those lovely parenting moments just like yours had occurred. I quickly changed my mood. :)
And, of course, I love the last pic. You're beautiful. But, I love your sense of humor. I added one to the end of my post today of me modeling me sling. Seriously. I don't know what goes through my head and then next thing you know it's on the blog. Ha!
I am so blessed to call you friend. Thanks for all the prayers and encouragement this last week.
Rach
Don't you love those pictures that capture you mid talking or eating or whatever else? Too funny. Glad you had a blessed Thanksgiving!
uh, so much to say...you are adorable #1. do i say that every post? also i want carmel now. also i don't like poop, but then who does? also the pics beck took of me "talking" i look super b$##(#@^ and don't like them...what's up with that?
*giggle* The claw hand club. :P You crack me up! And claw hands or no, you're still gawg-us! Love the pics, and your banner rocked. I did Black Friday once upon a time, but I'm pretty sure I don't have the mental capacity to ever go again. I have a hard enough time grocery shopping... ;)
Have a great week!
I think I could eat the caramel by the spoonful..no extra dessert needed!
Also, may I take a moment to pray that when my Little Bug figures out how to take her poopy diaper off she does so while her daddy is watching her? ;)
You have a beautiful family, Carissa! And you look gorgeous as always!
ha! that is too funny. she is so hilarious about her hands/claws!!
when i was little i begged for a real tree every year. you would think that would carry over into adulthood. i guess i'm too practical. it's just so much easier to whip out that pre-lit tree. you got a steal girl. it was worth the wait in line:)
Uh, yeah. Your membership is in the mail.
;)
I like you. I do. I like your outfits. And your hair. And your earrings. And your heart. And your attitude.
Why you gotta live so far away?
Haha! I love the last picture. My sister any I read this together and laughed. A lot. :)
I never really liked hte green been casserole. Call me crazy if you wish. :)
much love,
~bree
Love the pictures!!! And homemade caramel!!! YUM! Also, LOVE the new blog look!!!!
I love black Friday shopping, though I kind of wish they would really keep it on Friday and not start so early Thursday. I totally see how a fake tree is easier, but I LOVE the smell of a fresh Christmas tree...even if the needles are a pain to clean up:)
Sorry to hear about the poop, but kudos to your man for doing the clean up! And about the fruit ninja game, my 19 month old plays that and does the "bird" sign language when he wants to play Angry Birds. I'm totally with you on that! Belated happy thanksgiving!
haah! It looks like it was a wonderful Thanksgiving!! I think Thanksgiving truly ends when the leftovers are all eaten too!! Have a wonderful day!
Green bean casserole is my favorite dish!! I may have to make another batch, but I promised myself I'd only eat salads for the next few weeks! haha! We should change the name to green bean salad...lol!
Great pics!!
Sounds like you had a great holiday....well minus the poop incident :) So thankful for family fun, its the BEST!
Green bean casserole is the best! We tried a fancier version this year and it just wasn't the same. Definitely stickin with the classic from now on!
And those dessert bars looks scrumptious!
you are so funny! A joy to read! Too much Black Friday Bravery for me!!
mmmm caramel (recipe?)
2 good job on not being home during the poo spread...always makes our men appreciate us more when we return haha
3. that photo of ur sis (and bro) and the photo below of you and ur gma and aunt...look at the photo of ur sis and u (back and forth back and forth) ur twins..the angle of ur heads...eyes...mouth...forehead...u name it...BEAUTIFUL!
ohhh forgot...the 'claw' photo was awesome! giggles....all my photos look like that...hubs never captures me when he should...
We bit the bullet last year and bought a fake tree too... I was kinda sad about the whole thing cuz for us, the going out and picking it out, is as much of an event as the decorating of it. But there definitely is some pros too....like for instance, NOT having to water it!! Woo hoo!! And...the fact its STILL green on Christmas morning! So enjoy yo-self and your tree! :) :)
I loooove green bean casserole but the 1 time I ever made it, it was an epic fail (4 years ago) and haven't made it since.
If someone snapped a picture of me talking, my hands would be up higher and blurred since I'd be flailing them. I'm such a hand talker. As I teen, everyone would make me sit on my hands while I talked. It was hard!!
Be honest...wouldn't you rather be at the store the next time your 'big boy' took his poopy diaper off again?? -just sayin' ;)
Emily at Amazing Grapes
i looooove home made caramel! i rarely make it because all self control goes out the window. :) haha. story of my life! :)
my daughter (now 7) used to pull her poo out of her diaper (only a few times, thankfully) and smear it on the wall around her crib. she was a little over a year old i think. it was TERRIBLE. and we had textured walls. nightmare... and her dad never happened to be home when it would happen. lucky you for being at the store!
Ohhhh, I love that you talk about poop on your blog! Makes me feel better that I also talk about it on mine! ;0)
We did not TOUCH Target this year. The line was ridiculous. Had to have been about a two hour wait just to get IN. No way jose. Way to go on your fakey tree. It's not so bad. We've had one for 8 years and it's holding up just fine. No mess, no getting rid of it at the end of the month. THe thing I miss most is the smell. :0( But hubs is allergic to the pollen.
Anyway, enough of my rambling. Thanks for the link up!
you like the tradtional green bean casserole?! we are soulmates.
* i like your original banner
* poop ~ ughhhh hannah changed jess's diaper awhile back covered both babe & bed (our bed)in poo ~ why couldn't i have been at the grocery store.
* i go the fake/budget conscious tree route as well
* ha! did shannan let you in? ;)
Ha! I can't believe the poop smear story. Thankfully (knock on everything wooden within three feet of me!), we haven't had one of those yet. My kids haven't been the type to rip off their diapers. And oh, how I hope that the diaper stage ends soon for my Little Missy. She's at the point where she tells me after she pottys. She points to her diaper and says, "Peepee." And then runs to the bathroom. lol
I love your banner...simple sometimes is just better :) I made candy yams for the first time this year and they were DElicious. That Kelly is amazing...the same poop thing happened to one of my friends because her son was trying to be a big boy helper too! Black Friday was CRAZY. I didn't go, but we drove by Best Buy on Thanksgiving just to see the the line was around the building. WOW. Glad you got your tree...go Mom!
love the claw picture! you are beautiful! i am with you on the christmas tree but a prelit tree does save you so much more money in the end and yes no pine needles to pick up, or putting water in the container to make sure the tree doesnt dry out before Christmas. I've had mine for 8 years now and the prelit lights have gone out on me. I think I may be standing in Target's line for next years black friday sale to get a deal on a new prelit tree!
Total cuteness! You look much better speaking than I do. Everyone always captures the weirdest facials.... Blessings.
I loved the photos! Such a darling family you have!
Following you!

ha I pinned your banner!!
That caramel looks sooo good.
You picked the perfect time to grocery shop. Shew! Way to go hubby!
I love the sweet picture of you and your hubs!
Can't wait to see your tree!:)
Have a great week!!
JDaniel stayed up late while we were away too. It was in the name of spending time with family we never get to see. He would remind us when it was time to go to bed.
green bean casserole, never tried that! I may have to google it...:) You have a beautiful family! and there is something extra sweet about 18 month little ones:)
You are so funny! Don't you just love those candid photos of yourself talking?! LOL. I feel like my hands are always doing something "interesting". Oh well... you still look gorg! Of course! :)
That caramel looks divine! I love love love that happy pic with your man! Oh I LOVE happy lovey couples! I'm not the only one who steals moments in the forest! ;) Love!
He he you talk with your hands just like me!!! :-)
Love the pics, looks like a great time!
Your banner is cuuute! Sounds like such a fun thanksgiving weekend (minus gross kid habits, ha!). Those flowers are gorgeous. I really wish I could find some fun flowers in Hawaii that didn't cost me an arm and a leg!
You crack me up...you are so pretty by the way...
Oh, the poop! So sorry about that. I'm not looking forward to that at all. Please, NO...don't let that happen to me. My husband did that as a child. haha...yes...real funny when it's someone else. LOL...
Have a wonderful Christmas season!
