it is all kinds of cool to have photographer friends. my photog friend, amy, texted me this:
dear my sweet friend, i think we should make a deal... i'll take some pictures of your family if you will take some pictures of my family... xoxo, amy
my reply:
dear amy, what?! you're too nice. you are totally getting the short end of the stick. but this sounds so fun. i think i'll be scared to death... taking pictures of a real photographer! let's make a deal. much love, a wannabe.
and yes, indeed, i was totally scared to death. it did not help that we did our family shoot prior to, and my kids were absolutely no good and terribly bad. Hunter did not want to take off his Santa hat (he's been wearing it since grandma gave it to him weeks ago) and Sage couldn't bare to let go of her "bankie" and "facie" (pacifier) which makes for some rad props (not!). nonetheless, amy worked her skills and got some amazing shots.
next it was my turn. amy asked if i shot in manual, i said, "yes, unless i get nervous then i switch to aperture priority." turns out, i stayed in AV mode for most of the shoot. it almost felt like i was all naked. taking pictures of a professional is kinda intimidating. even if she's your awesome friend.
i get scared of all this photog talk, i don't want people to think that i think i'm really good. you know what i mean?! it's like everyone these days buys a decent camera and becomes a photographer. but, i will say that God is giving me lots of opportunities to practice and learn and have fun with it.
i present to you... the day i took pictures of a photographer and had butterflies in my belly to prove it!

kaz and amy adopted annie rice after a long and hard infertility journey. we were in a church small group with them for two years and prayed so many times for the Lord to grant their desires to have a child. i get all teary when i think of annie rice - the child so many prayed for, for so long, and she is now right where she belongs in the family God designed just for her. adoption is such a beautiful miracle. it was absolutely precious to capture the love of this family, butterflies and all! : )

Wow! I love the pictures and so appreciate you "photographer " people! Maybe we could see Amy's pics of you all as well?
Love the photos Carissa...and I can relate to this whole post. I think God is going to use you with this photography thang...I think He already is. ;)
You did an amazing job Carissa! Really beautiful, with a beautiful story to go along with it. So precious!
You really take great pictures!
Great pics!! And after seeing how great they turned out... I'm definitely going to start experimenting with the AV setting on my camera.
Oh, friend, your pictures are lovely! I know what you mean about everyone getting a decent camera and becoming photographers... but yes, I truly believe that God is giving you these opportunities for a reason! You once told me that you are not creative. This post (and all your other photos) beg to differ. They speak of an artist in your soul.
And Annie Rice is adorable... and I am tearing up just from that small part of her (her parents') story you told. They are absolutely a beautiful God-designed family.
Love love love!!!! Beautiful shots. They will be treasures forever. And yes - what a treat to have friends like that. Can I borrow your friend? :)
Dear sweet friend, you are a photographer. Get over it. ;) WAIT, that didn't sound nice, even though I totally mean it to be. You have talent, and an eye for the artistry of photography. Embrace it, and let the butterflies roll (I get them, too...and always second guess myself. Especially when I photograph anyone who pays me...I count it all as "practice" *grin*) These are wonderful!!!!!
These pictures are awesome! I just LOVE Annie Rice!
Great Job!

Carissa.. these pictures are amazing. You trully captured their amazing little family! Hearing about their infertility battle got me a little sad but after looking at the little angle they have know .. it allows me to realize God has a plan for everone!!
these pictures are gorgeous! you did an amazing job! what kind of camera do you use?
the story of annie rice is so sweet, too! :)
Aw, beautiful! The pictures look great. :)
Love,
~Bree
why would you ever be nervous!?!?! you take beautiful pictures! and i love that you shoot in manual. i try, but most of the time i chicken out and go back to apature. LOVE these, girlie!
If that is the short end of the stick then I need to see the long end because those are AMAZING. The one of her sitting at the table should be in a magazine. Adoption is truly a BEAUTIFUL blessing...what a gift :)
They turned out beautifully. I know she is so proud...and you should be too!!!!
no no no! carissa, these are amazing :) you are growing (just like me...but faster) in your photography skills and that's super awesome.
will you post the ones SHE took of your gorgeous family?! pretty please ;)
You're so funny, but that's exactly how I text my photog friend too. I did her mommy/baby pictures and I was a nervous wreck!
I think your pictures are so cute. Before you know it, you'll be shooting in manual and without thought move that shudder speed and f/stop around like its no one's business.
by the way, I'm doing my first actual (minus my photog friend) baby pictures tomorrow for a friend and I'm flipping out nervous! It will be all me doing it, without ideas and suggestions. eek!!

Oh, Carissa, don't sell yourself short, you are an awesome photographer. And, it didn't hurt that you had such a precious family to photograph.
You know I'm all about adoption and just brings such sweet memories back for me and our Princess. Hugs to you!
What a beautiful family!
And you take fabulous pictures, why did you have butterflies???
You did a great job, Carissa. And how could you miss with a joy-filled family (and Annie Rice's stinking cute little face)?
Great job! I've become friends with our family photographer and she's offered to give me some pointers, but I must admit I'm super intimidated (and she's a really nice person!). You should be proud of your images. Beautiful family!
Wonderful job! What a lovely family to take photos of.
I get nervous when people ask me to take the photo too. I sweat, and so do my toes.
