the day in which i cleaned out my cupboard.

you know what makes me happy? purging.  i love seeing empty spaces in my house and my closets and my cupboards.  it helps me breathe easier.  also, getting rid of stuff is plain good for the soul.  letting go of more that i could be storing up is kind of freeing.  we have had one junk/nick nack/whatever cupboard in our kitchen that has laid to waste.  as soon as our kids were born our house became curios free and i am not sure that i'll ever go back.  there's less to dust this way.  yes and amen. well finally, i could not stand the hidden clutter cupboard any longer.

no, those aren't bugs down there... just some twigs and grass. gross and weird.

also weird?  evidence that i used to have some crazy mad love for candles.
these were only taken four years ago, people.  which makes me really scared for 2016.
the fact that this one is in a frame is quite frightening with the fake ocean backdrop.  this was actually on a wall in my house? i suppose we paid a good $20 for it, so i wanted to get my money's worth.
this is Kelly's trophy he received when we left youth ministry.  the best part? he actually made me put it up in our house for a few years.
thankfully, it gets better.  these are some things from my grandmother.  she died when i was eight so i count them as treasures.  i'm guessing she used these for something like ambrosia.  don't know what i will use them for.  one thing i will not use them for is ambrosia.
more grandma stuff.  i wouldn't exactly call these birds(?) my style, but i'm trying to get in touch with my sentimental side.
here we go. cha ching. if there's one thing my grandmother did well it was tea and coffee.  i remember being five, at her house, asking for cream and sugar in my decaf.  yet, i don't like coffee now.  what happened? i really want to know. but i do see plenty of tea parties in the future with my Sage.

the moral of the story: clean out your cupboards and hope to God you're not as weird as you used to be. you may even find yourself a few treasures as you let go of more.

linking with rach because who does't count a cleaned out cupboard as a favorite?

I am on a huge purging kick too. I go back and forth between embarassment (how the heck did I acquire so much stuff?) to cloud-nine joy. I definitely need the breathing room and I think it's good for my boys as well. :)

Been there...When we started purging to add on to our house it was so strange what we had stored.

Oh, good for you! It is so easy to become slaves to our stuff and looks like you are NOT going to allow that to happen.

I'm loving the birds and the cup and saucer and yes, you and Sage have lots of fun parties in your future.

Blessings for a wonderful weekend dearie!

My cupboards look the same. I have SO many half burned candles and tons of awful photographs. I'm not good at getting rid of anything though. We have a huge storage room and that gives me the excuse of just keeping it all I guess.

haha...I love purging too. Unlike most people, I actually like cleaning my room. Organizing makes me happy---it's like profitable therapy:)

Too funny! I purged right after we put our house on the market last year (eek) and it felt so good! I tried finding some things for a garage sale and could hardly come up with anything! Kind of nice for a change.

I have several pieces of that yellow (I think it's called vintage amber??) glassware given to me by well meaning ladies. Not exactly a hot commodity, but I try to pull it out at Thanksgiving. ;)

Have a great weekend!

My grandmother had some dishes like that too, but hers were green. I fondly remember her making butterscotch pudding and having them for us when we spent the night. I can't bring myself to make anything else to put in them.

I find twigs, grass, rice, and cornflakes in everything. Oh and cheerios. Underneath beds, in cabinets, EVERYWHERE. How do they get everywhere?!?!

Also, I will be using this as my inspiration to clean out some junk today. Hopefully.

A clean de-cluttered house feels SOO nice! I just love that feeling of neatness. It's freeing :-)
I like your vintage rediscovered goodies. That may be the best part of cleaning out an old cupboard. The treasures. Have a beautiful weekend my friend :-)

haha yeeesss! moving every year of college definitely made me constantly reevaluate what material things I really needed.

I never liked tea so we had Ovaltine in our tea set?

Wow, those are some interesting cupboard finds! I love that teacup. <3 Cleaning out is one of the best things you can do. And I am just a *bit* OCD about things being clean, so I clean out my bedroom about once every two months. :)

hugs,

You had me laughing. Love the fake ocean picture. I'd keep that on the wall for a long time. And the candles...girl, you can never have enough candles. You're just being prepared for the blackouts, is all.

Birds would look great in someone's home..who like birds. And that trophy!! I love that you had to show it for a few years! He must have been so proud. :)

Have a great clean weekend!

I AGREE! i breath better too when i'm not weighted down by the baggage of extra junk.

My fav thing is purging too! I have been known to get rid of stuff and hubby was looking for it..or I was..or we both were...but it makes me feel so good and light!
I have an idea for those ,ambrosia cups" and the leftover candles. You can melt the candles and pour them in the cups with a new wick. Then u just got some nice tealight kinda stuff.

I can take notes on your purging abilities :). I'm afraid to see what I will find!

What a refreshing feeling- I love cleaning out and organizing!!

it feels so good to have a fresh and clean slate!
or at least an organized one.
and i LOVE memories.
even if something isn't exactly our taste, it is so good to have a few things to remember our loved ones by.
happy weekend to you!

Those pics of you guys are cute! The years do fly and do seem to change us. My wedding pics make me laugh.

It does feel good to get rid of stuff. I try to remember the quote I read a few years ago-"Have only things you need or love." My problem is I end up with too much stuff I love..

Popping over from Rachel at Finding Joy. I love the "old" pictures of you and your husband; it's so fun to look back...and laugh!

I LOVE purging! Right after my husband and I got married we purged some of our old things. The craziest thing of mine? (That made him wonder just who he had married)...my mom's boss's gold crown. He gave it to me when I was six; he thought I would think a real gold tooth was cool. Why I still had it at the age of 25 is beyond me!

Seeing your Granma Joan's "treasures" warms my heart. I think about her often and I treasure the things I have that belonged to her.

You definitely had some treasures stored away in there! Loving your grandma's items!! It is hard for me to get in the mood to clean and de-clutter with cold weather. Maybe I will try this when Spring comes and I can open the windows!

Love the sweet treasures from your Grandma! And I have a few cupboards that need a little attention. Thanks for the motivation! Have a great weekend!

You've got some good finds there! We "raided" my husband's grandmother's house last week because she's moving to a smaller home... it was bitter sweet but I did get a lot of vintage sewing treasures! Score!

PS the fake ocean pictures cracked me up!
