family fashion?

because sometimes i like to talk about style.

i'm not really cool anymore. of course that would first imply that i used to be cool.  which is up for negotiation.  so i'll just go with i'm not trendy cool in a fashion kind of way.  this first occurred to me after skinny jeans came out.  and i hated them.  but now, several years later, i'm finally giving in to their painfully tight, circulation cutting ankle lengths and going with it.  my sister said i should and i half believed her.

interjection :: i do remember the days when i enjoyed the current styles but that was back in high school.  and those days brought more zits than one human should have to handle along with mean girls and ugly school uniforms. i'll take sanity over coolness any day of the week.

who needs pinterest when i can take fashion tips from my twelve year old sister?!?  someone please tell me if i start to look like the disney channel. and in that case i demand you call for an intervention. until then, i want to borrow her clothes and by some odd miracle, i can fit into them.

ladies, the cowl neck scarf has finally hit the south, so my sister says. of course, she has it before i do.

there is something so pretty about her plaid shirt, too. i used to resent plaid and thought it was only for farmers. my Hunter seems to think plaid is reserved for pajamas because i went to wear plaid and he wondered why i was getting dressed for the day in my pj's.  good thing i don't take style tips from a two year old.

she must let me borrow her plaid.  her scarf just doesn't quite have the same effect with my target thermal.

and stripes.  oh stripes.  in the recent past, i was scared of stripes.  someone once said they make you look wider and who really wants to look wider? no.one. i see them everywhere and think, i've got to get over my fears.  i did take a few risks and with an old navy gift card i am now the proud owner of some striped camisoles that i prefer to wear under everything (remember FPFG's #1 style rule: always layer and layer some more).  i also plan on borrowing my sister's shirt straight from old navy's spring line. striped coral and navy?  bring it.

oh mustard.  i'm loving it. i've confessed this before in my rantings of an aqua plus mustard affair.

sister girl is also teaching me about not matching.  i'm trying to let go of the matchyness, afterall, i am a self-proclaimed bohemian and i don't really think boho's care about that all too much.  i would not normally pair a mustard purse with these colors.  but i'm kind of digging in a big way.

for so long i have neglected my wardrobe for the sake of paying our bills.  good decision, huh?!  no worries anymore, though.  sister friend is here.  : )

How cute is your sister! I must admit, I love clothes...always have but I don't like fashion. Never in my life have I read vogue magazine or even cared...I love boots, I love tights and I love dresses however, breast feeding does not go well with dresses. (Unless I want to reveal all of me to the world. So right now it's skinny jeans, boots and some sort of sweater, or tunic, or layering.

I have absolutely no fashion sense, so I'd say y'all are doing pretty good! I really want to figure out how to wear leggings! I got a nice black pair, and have nothing to go with them. NOTHING. I think I'd better hit up the thrift stores...Love the coral and navy!

Your sister is so pretty! Just like her sister. :) And please don't feel bad about taking fashion advice from a 12 year old. I'm much older than you and I am constantly being advised by my 14 year old daughter. I have to admit that since listening to her and really paying attention, I am looking a bit more stylish. ;) Yes, I now own a pair of the previously detested skinny jeans. I wear them only with boots or booties, so come warm weather they'll go to the back of the closet, but hey...it's progress. As for stripes, let's just say horizontals are not my friends but I can live with diagonals. LOL!

i think the cowl looks BETTER with the target thermal. something that i like to do is not wear the same combination twice. i think it's fun to try to see how many different cardigans, scarfs, and belts go with a particular tank top, for example. i totally agree about matchy-ness. it's like when people wear earrings and a necklace as a set. yuck! no way. haha. you are a hottie, so you can't go wrong. i saw you say before that layering is a goal. layering is great! sometimes i'll wear a dress over leggings with a vest over the dress and a cardigan over that. that's a fun one. so, based on my long comment, i guess i was more passionate about this topic than i thought. :]

back in the day after a trip to Europe after high school I was rather obsessed with fashion....nowadays...not so much:) the whole bills need to get paid kinda stand in the way, and the fact that you can buy really cute kids clothes for a fraction of the price. Anyways....skinny jeans I do have but I save them for when I need to go out, I really like having my circulation moving...... I'm a big boot cut jeans and a teeshirt and cardigan girl. And scarves....scarves I love....

I have zero fashion sense...my poor daughters! which means my 11 yr old (ok she'll be 11 in 8 days) tries but most of the time i turn my nose up to it...i wonder if it's me not hip with the times...or she just inherited my sense. haha

i guess we'll find out when she hits jr high...thankfully all of her friends are just jeans and tshirt girls right now haha

and btw....u did rock the scarf....u could also rock that striped shirt she had on too

Love the scarf! I've been thinking for a while now that I need to make myself one... after looking at the 40 Euro price tags in the stores. Ouch. And do get a plaid shirt! I want one too now!

I didn't like skinny jeans when they first came out either! I love that scarf. You and your sister are beautiful!

I have a fashionable sister who I go to about the trends too. I don't think I was ever "cool" fashion-wise!

You know what they say on What Not to Wear - "It's doesn't have to match, it just has to 'go'". I am a recovering "matcher", too! :) Cute styles!

I love this and find it so humorous! The gals at one of the shops I frequent are always saying to me, "Ms Lea, you have got to get out of that box." They know that I am so, so matchy, matchy that it hurts. I'm working on it, but doubt I'll ever venture far outside my box. :o)

You are your little sister are such cuties! Happy mid-week!

I take clothing tips from my daughter too she's eclectic. But my best "fashion" indicator is the light in my sweetheart's eyes & his slow smile.
Really enjoyed the posts & responses. With young children & a a budget bueaty is always glad for shared clothes.

Haha I pretty much now just mix and match plain T's, cardigans, and flats. Some stripes or plaid would probably be good! And that scarf looks so soft and comfy. You girls are gorgeous!

Your sister is such a fashionista! I congratulate her. :)
So, since that scarf doesn't work for you {only in your opinion, of course}, care to send it my way? I feel as though there *must* be a way to make that beauty work. ;D

Yeah, I've heard that thing about the stripes. And have disregarded it perfectly as well. I just got a brown and white striped tank at Old Navy a few weeks ago, and have been wearing it underneath practically EVERYTHING. hehe...I'm a bit obsessed.

That puse...oh my...#jealoustimesten

haha love your taking fashion advice from a 12 year old...not to say she doesn't have style, though. :)

I have always been afraid of horizontal stripes for the exact same reason. I know own 2 small striped shirts and have embraced them. SOOOO happy the cowl has made it out to you southerners! And yes, matching is so out (said, like a valley girl). Its all about bold colors, that might seem scary but in fact all go.

And seriously! How awesome are YOU that you fit in your 12 year old sister's clothing, after 2 kids...you rock!

I'm gonna go ahead and say that you're way cool. I have a very similar scarf too, which I guess would make me way cool too. Yes, I think that's pretty much right.
You gals look pretty fabulous by the way :-)

you and your sister are both gorgeous no matter what you wear! i gave up the fashion thing when i had my first baby. and three babies later, it is scary some of the things i have in my closet. yikes. it is hard when you want to look and feel cute for yourself and your husband but that is also the last thing you want to spend your husband's hard-earned money on. what's a girl to do? i need your sister. : )

Your sister is adorable! (As are you, but I think I've said that one before...) ;) And she has got some serious style. I'd say you're safe taking tips from her! =)

I steal clothes from my (younger) sister's closets all the time! And I miss those days when shopping seemed so easy to do, but then came bills! The scarf looks great on you. ;)

Too too cute! Which means you sure are COOL! :)

Just be thankful you can wear skinny jeans! My curves won't allow it!

I need to borrow your sister! I am WAY TOO matchy matchy. Trying to figure out the whole not matched and yet completely coordinated look...I am mystified :)

Trying to figure out what "style" is supposed to look like for a 50 year old. Still in denial that my big birthday is next week. :)

Wrote a blog post last night with a link to yours ... one of your recent posts inspired me to start a new theme, "Those Were The Days ..."

I am right there with you - I hated skinny jeans, and only broke down and bought my first pair on New Years Eve. I kind of love them now though! Your sister is the cutest, and I love that cowl neck scarf!
