miscellany monday

grab the button, write your randoms and join in below.

1. what's on my nightstand lately?  glad you asked.
a) just finished He Heard Hannaha true story that leaves you speechless and in awe of God's sovereign plan.  a review and giveaway is coming soon.
b) i read Morning and Evening constantly.  it's the only devotional you'll ever need to own.
c) this one is the kicker: Lies Women Believe.  if a Christian woman had to choose one book outside of the Bible to read, this would be it.  Lies Women Believe hits you square in the face while reminding you to fight for Truth in your life.
d) finally started the pioneer woman's love story, Black Heels & Tractor Wheels.  it's absolutely CUTE.
e) my honey and i are about to start Tim Keller's The Meaning of Marriage. Keller lets go of the sentimentalism and embraces the reality of marriage pointing to a greater picture of Christ and the Church.  i have a feeling i'm going to learn a whole lot.
 2. our valentine photo shoot started and ended all at once:
 3. the best way to take pictures of children: occupy them with a swing,
or a see saw (hint: don't get the see saw in the shot),
 or a bicycle. (watermark fail)

 or a daddy.
 4. my boy. see all the green hues in the trees? spring is here, i tell you.  we've had consistent 70 degree weather for weeks now. someone out there please enjoy winter for me.

 5. a rough beginning: pictures with mommy did not rank on her priority list.

Sage finally gave in. how nice of her.

 6. they tell each other they're best buds for life. and they aren't kidding.

 7. it goes from brownies last week to broccoli. sorry for the let down.  this is, however, the best tasting broccoli i have had. it's entirely simple as well.

the best broccoli of your life from Amateur Gourmet
preheat oven to 425 degrees
put 4-5lbs of broccoli on a baking sheet
toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper
add 4 peeled and sliced garlic cloves
roast in the oven for 20-25 minutes, until crispy tender
drizzle with more olive oil and 1/3 cup fresh shredded parmesan cheese

8. if you have not yet entered to win a $499.99 Oreck Air Purifier, why the heck not?! click here to enter. giveaway ends tomorrow evening (Tuesday, 2/7).

Adorable pictures!! I totally just read Black Heels to Tractor Wheels yesterday. We must be on the same brain wave. It was SUPER cute and reminded me of when I fell for my own cowboy boot clad, F250 deisel driving man. ;)

Love Nancy Leigh DeMoss! Revive our Hearts is one of my favorite radio shows. Let us know how Real Marriage is! Sounds like something I'd enjoy reading.

Blessed week to you, sister!

He Heard Hannah IS so powerful. I feel so blessed to have read it as well and cannot wait to promote it -- amazing.

I love your list of books. I've read many of them and can totally endorse them as well. Love the Lies Women Believe. Powerful.

Love the pictures so much. I cannot believe how long Sage's hair is getting. She's a beauty. And seventy degrees? I thought our weather was nuts -- you know being almost 35-40 degrees in February {and January} in Minnesota. You win. 70 is crazy.

Secret. I miss winter as well. Shhhhh.

I'm going to try the broccoli. Another secret - broccoli is one of those words I have to spell a couple of times because I can't get it right. I'm grateful for spell check. ;)

Thanks for your sweet words and encouraging words lately. So blessed by you.

I just ordered Morning and Evening last week. So excited to get it. Also ordered a bunch of Edith Schaeffer books. A book I would highly recommend: The Disciplines of a Godly Woman. so good.

Love the pictures of your babies. Adorable as always.

Gotta check out that devotional book right away.

I want to know photography like you when "I grow up." Not likely gonna happen. :o)

Precious pics of a precious family.

And, brocolli, oh, love it and will definitely try try this recipe.

Happy week my dear!

I have a nightstand pic waiting to share. The books about topple over there are so many. Like I can actually read that many at one time;). I'll have to try the broccoli. Anyway I can get it to taste better I'm all for it. Have a beautiful day down there. Who needs winter??

Kelli said...

Now you've given me some titles to look for on my Kindle. Thank you. :)
The pics are adorable. <3
We had that kind of weather for 3 or 4 days in a row in January. Drove me batty! I want WINTER!!! We need a good foot of snow that hangs on for a few days. Make people stay home and give these nasty bugs and viruses that are going around a chance to die off.
Hope you have an amazing Monday. :)

Lindsey said...

I love your Monday morning posts.....me and coffee:) Thanks for the recommendations, that is about the 5th time in about 3 days that Lies Women Believe has been recommended....its on my list.

Hubby and I worked through the Love and Respect marriage book a year ago with another couple, absolutely loved it. Looking forward to hearing about how this one is!

He Heard Hannah sounds like such a good book! I can't wait to see your review.

These are adorable photos, Carissa! I can't believe how big Sage and Hunter are getting -- wasn't it just yesterday that Sage was born? O_o Unbelievable. She is such a very pretty young lady, and Hunter is quite the little gentleman. :)

We've been having very warm weather here, too -- 50 and 60 degree days, and not a snowflake to be found! Normally we've had at least one snowfall by now, but I'm not complaining. :) It will seem rather odd if the weather continues in this fashion until spring, though -- almost as if we missed winter.

I especially love the photos of Hunter and his daddy; so precious!

I hope you have a blessed Monday!

Love love love the pics of you and Sage!! The sunflare is perfectly dreamy, great job hubby! Did you set him up for those shots or did he do it himself? (My husband always pats himself on the back for pictures where I've adjusted all of the settings and told him where to stand. :) I still give him credit, but I think we both know. :) Love them anyway. And Happy 3 years to your little guy!

I did Lies Women Believe in a college small group- so powerful! And so important to be able to identify the lies we're hearing!

And I made that same broccoli! Isn't it awesome? I ate a whole crown by myself... not all at once though :)

And your family photos are sooo cute! You have a beautiful family. I'm definitely a fan of all that sun flare!

We've had photo shoots like that here too. Actually the majority of ours turn out that way:) You ended up with some cut shot even if they weren't what you were planning! That broccoli sounds yummy. I've never baked it before but I have seen people raving about how good it is...it may have to go on our menu soon. Have a great week Carissa:)

ok, love your random monday posting, as always.
you have blown my heart wide open with your nightstand reads. kindred spirit.
also, think i need to read the lies book again. the first time i was a brand new christian, i remember it but totally need a fresh peek.
can't wait to check out that hannah book.

grateful for you, sweet fancy carissa! xo

Thanks for including the photo of Sage crying. My boys are about that cooperative when I really want a specific photo. It just never works out. Oh, well!

Thanks for the book recommendations. It's always fun to see what others are reading. Right now I'm elbow deep in commentaries and my study Bible for our Gospel of John study. Good stuff and kind of deep. Believe it or not I haven't read a lot of "christian" literature since I was in college and read the Ragamuffin Gospel.

Have a great week :)

I love the book Lies women believe! It is definitely a convicting book and a great read :) Those other books sound great.

I bought lies women believe with the workbook, and for some reason I stopped half way through. I should move it back to the top of my stack.

I've always wanted to try out Morning and Evening, but wasn't sure if I would like it. I only ever hear good things about it!
